>Misty
Nobody really likes her other than normalgays that haven't touched the franchise in 20 years, and they only like her because she's the only female character they even know who is.
These people aren't "the fandom", they're people that were "the fandom" 20 years ago. They don't give a shit about Pokemon except "I liked that cartoon with Ash Brock and Misty as a kid" and probably don't even know what a Lucario is.
This but unironically. Most casuals only know of Pikachu, Charizard and Mewtwo. Maybe Bulbasaur, Jigglypuff and Squirtle as well
Most "casuals" know more then that lol. gays always push this meme because they are ass blasted that gen 1 pokemon/characters are more popular then the stuff they like. So they create this caricature of what the casual Pokemon fan is.
No one cares about Dawn or Serena. Nobody over the age of 12 cares about the anime anymore even if they are fans of franchise. Like Dawn’s return episode didn’t even crack top 10. No one gives a shit about her.
No one except people who grew up in Pokemania care about any character.
Misty's been gone forever, Brock's been gone forever, Ash is generic as frick, and all of the other characters are replaceable and unmemorable unless you're a waifugay.
This is also because everyone over the age of 8 understands the Pokemon anime is a toy commercial and doesn't give a frick to be anything more than that, so similarly, why should people care for or look for anything more?
This. Ash is liked because people remember the OS, most people quit during Johto, and I can't imagine many fans besides absolute diehards sticking around after the dub change in AG.
>unpopular
I know you people don’t understand the concept of projecting but, just because you don’t like something doesn’t make that the case for everyone
when most casuals heard that Ash won, they saw SM's ugly frick face and fricking laughed
then they saw the state of the alola league if they gave a frick more than a minute, saw the awful state of that league and most thought it was worse than fricking orange league
I highly doubt a single person anywhere was "worrying" because Ash passed the fricking qualification round of a league, the kind of shit that's taken place offscreen in almost every prior league.
What I remember happening wasn't people "seething" because he won, but SMgays seething because everyone kept pointing out that it was just a meme league full of Magikarps and that he had won more impressive tournaments before. This looks like really tryhard damage control.

If you were trying to sound LESS like you're damage controlling, you're not doing a very good job.
>such an unpopular character
My man, every character was unpopular when the franchise started.
What did you want them to do? Slap Goku as the MC and make him a trainer?
>unpopular
I’m sorry to say this Anon but a fat and balding 30+ year old virgin manchild who can’t get over a fictional 10 year-old’s adventures in a children’s cartoon is not actually the average fan of Pokemon. It’s very much so a franchise for children even as western manchildren try to force their opinions on Chinese basket-weaving forums and pretend they are relevant to Japanese-centric market.
Ash is the human face of the franchise. Has been since it’s near-inception. He’s also still very popular among children and has earned loyalty from manchildren over the years as well. Your mentally challenged assertions are not the norm, they are a vocal minority.

True Sounds like your average Ashgay
Every homosexual on Ganker is going to be a manchild. Do you mean every Ash fan? Well that’s obviously wrong. The average Ash fan is a tiny Japanese child not some obsessed fat westerner.
two things
1) It's safer to keep him as a protagonist than to experiment. As long as the numbers are good enough, he will remain the protagonist.
2) He's probably more popular in nipponland than you think. The nip market always comes first with these things.
They didn't "choose" him, it just sort of happened as the show kept going. With Ash they can introduce new kids to the series and older people will still be in the loop years later. Ash winning in Alola made fricking headline news.
>Ash winning in Alola made headline news. >Ash looking like he was going to win in Kalos made headline news >nobody seems to give a shit about this weird world tournament thing he's probably going to win as well
Heh
>nobody seems to give a shit about this weird world tournament thing he's probably going to win as well
The new anime has little structure, no dramatic arcs, and overall less hype.
Same with SM. Those "Ash won the Pokemon League and is now Pokemon Master" headlines were the first time your average normalgay even knew there was a league going on, there was zero hype before that.
Were they even all that "on board"? It seemed like most of the randos making a big deal out of it thought this was a normal league and not just another Orange League-tier nothingburger.
They hired a new artist who really missed the mark when trying to make the design "easy to anime". The SM anime had two character designers, it's really easy to tell which of them designed who.
>wasn't alive during pokemania
>t. Born after 2000
This frickers are wrong
This one is the true answer
yeah, but then why the frick GF trying to pander zoomer?
>unpopular
he still is the most popular character with misty and brock
>Misty
Nobody really likes her other than normalgays that haven't touched the franchise in 20 years, and they only like her because she's the only female character they even know who is.
90% of the fandom is casuals lol. Like what the frick are you even talking about?
These people aren't "the fandom", they're people that were "the fandom" 20 years ago. They don't give a shit about Pokemon except "I liked that cartoon with Ash Brock and Misty as a kid" and probably don't even know what a Lucario is.

Misty was capable of being entertaining, which is honestly more than can be said for many characters in the show.
>misty
nobody gives a shit about misty anymore, Serena and dawn have by far passed her in popularity. Not even nips give a shit about her anymore.
No one cares about Dawn or Serena. Nobody over the age of 12 cares about the anime anymore even if they are fans of franchise. Like Dawn’s return episode didn’t even crack top 10. No one gives a shit about her.

Jessie sexo
Misty and Brock were in multiple episodes in SM only a few years ago.
was there ever a point when the anime had its own ideas and wasn't JUST a commercial for toys and new games?
Ash is one of the worst protagonists I've ever seen after OS that character was taken to a back alley and shot in the back of the head.
This. Ash is liked because people remember the OS, most people quit during Johto, and I can't imagine many fans besides absolute diehards sticking around after the dub change in AG.
The Pokemon anime started 25 years ago, probably at least half the people watching it now never saw the original.
He's not though, Pikachu is. The only reason Ash is still around is because Pikachu is his pokemon.
Pikachu has been carrying the shitty anime on his back for the past 20 years, nobody gives a frick about Ash anymore.
who should be the face of the franchise instead?
Because he is too popular.
>such an unpopular character
Uh..
pretty pathetic numbers for the protagonist with 1000+ episodes
Cope
The protag of an anime is rarely the most popular character
Lancebros...
It's just because we've known that he would be in this tournament for the longest, right?
>Steven's only so high because Redgygays have a boner for him getting wrecked by Red and Ash is the closest they'll get to seeing that in the anime
>unpopular
I know you people don’t understand the concept of projecting but, just because you don’t like something doesn’t make that the case for everyone
OS-DP Ash was great. BW Ash-XY Ash sucked ass but they got back on track with SM. JN Ash is overshadowed by Goh.
>SM
>good
PFFFFFTHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
when most casuals heard that Ash won, they saw SM's ugly frick face and fricking laughed

lmaoooooo
Dumb XYgay
seethe harder
This is so tryhard cringy it hurts. I can't even tell if it's made by an actual SMgay or someone trying to mock them.
It was made when /padt/ was still in denial and thought Ash would lose.
>he didn't win! he's holding the trophy for the real winner!
lol
I highly doubt a single person anywhere was "worrying" because Ash passed the fricking qualification round of a league, the kind of shit that's taken place offscreen in almost every prior league.

I don't think he's overshadowed by goh, he's just there to throw pokeballs, shill gen 8 starters and pokemon go
jessie sexo2
I don't think you know what "unpopular" actually means.
>such an unpopular character
My man, every character was unpopular when the franchise started.
What did you want them to do? Slap Goku as the MC and make him a trainer?
Can't wait for summer to be over
considering all the mexicans here i would say yes
Ash is fricking shit, hope they kill him off.
>unpopular

Can't believe that fricker actually married Mewtwo, he beat the actual Ash to the punch lmfao

Ash fricking sucks
They didn't "choose" him, it just sort of happened as the show kept going. With Ash they can introduce new kids to the series and older people will still be in the loop years later. Ash winning in Alola made fricking headline news.

Fricking this. It took the fricking leaks of Ash holding the trophy to get others back on board.
Were they even all that "on board"? It seemed like most of the randos making a big deal out of it thought this was a normal league and not just another Orange League-tier nothingburger.
no one had a problem with ash 25 years ago douche
It's the creator's self insert wtf did you expect
tbh based on how the anime has been treating him since SM I'm pretty sure he's unironically new director Tomiyasu's self insert.
the better question is why did they draw him so moronic for SM?
They hired a new artist who really missed the mark when trying to make the design "easy to anime". The SM anime had two character designers, it's really easy to tell which of them designed who.
