IS…LE BAD
This was ultimately the death knell for taking the Legion seriously for me. Ceasar talks a big game about how modern tech (and thus the medicine that comes from it) made people weaker YET HE HAS A FUCKING AUTODOC RIGHT BEHIND HIM. That's not even mentioning that the active ingredients of stimpacks can literally made from Broc Flower and Xander Root
>wtf this dictator isnt following the rules he's setting for the common people???

j sawyer on the legion: >Caesar created the Legion through brutal means and he is only able to maintain the Legion through similar, in some cases even more severe, means. All of the tribes he conquered and incorporated into the Legion learned that this was “the way”. Caesar couldn’t allow members of the Legion to maintain their own languages and customs because it undermined solidarity. He couldn’t allow traditional families because it tied soldiers to people and places -- people other than Caesar and fellow legionaries. He couldn’t allow rank and file recruits access to advanced weaponry or technology because it undermined fear of superiors and reliance on Caesar. >Of course, all of this only “functions” and continues to grow if the Legion continues to conquer and/or increases its slave population. But Caesar’s long-term dream is of the Legion watching over a civilian empire, which is why he’s so dead-set on New Vegas. >So, the Legion is the way it is because Caesar is a warlord who maintains control through his cult of personality and the fear of his disapproval (with severe consequences). The historical Caesar was known for being unusually merciful, but he was playing to societies that were much more accepting of mercy. Caesar taught the Legion mercilessness, so that is what they expect, what they consider strong. >There’s nothing really morally grey about Liberia’s Charles Taylor, but he’s a real guy who did astoundingly terrible things for the sake of maintaining power. In the context of F:NV, I don’t think Caesar and the Legion need to be thought of as “grey” like the player’s other options. I think they can be what they are, as they are, because the lie of their fiction is intended to provoke thoughts about truth, i.e. the nature of humans who rise to power in such circumstances. When we say “war never changes”, we’re talking about things like this.
>>wtf this dictator isnt following the rules he's setting for the common people???
I'm not shocked by it. It's just that it's so blatant that it's comical. It's the perfect visual setup for a sitcom-esq joke. >character is ranting about how x is the cause of y >camera pans slightly to show said character is stockpiling x >audience laughs
History has shown that civilizations that reject basic human rights tenets, endlessly warmonger and don't embrace societal or technological change will implode. The whole point is that CL is a genetic deadend, no matter how many pushups a Praetorian can do it doesn't match a guy with a gun who went to school and actually learned how to interact with society in a productive way. The Legion itself is largely uneducated, only killing others and themselves when told to.
I always had a headcannon that gold lost its value in comparison to today or the past due to generations caring more about survival and stability and forgetting it's perceived value. Something like good quality metal (which you could scavenge tbh) or water would probably be worth more caps for a waster wishing for stability and safety. Gold is a very long lasting material though, and Caesar gets to have a non-corroding coin, as well as mimicking the Roman Empire.
In New Vegas' recent history the Brotherhood of Steel is particularly infamous for irradiating the gold reserves of the NCR, rendering it worthless and crippling their economy
Its a game about a bunch of people trying to take over Nevada, which is mostly desert in a post-post apocalyptic world of diminished resources, mutants, cannibals and laser weapons. You should be glad that some civility exists.
why didn't you just take over everything yourself
Yes Man is only a robot you command, you are completely able to just assfuck the other factions if you don't like them
kill caesar, blow up the BOS, kill house, hold the NCR hostage and send them packing out of New Vegas with your robot army and nuke the surrounding territory if you want
Most people have little imagination or take everything at face value. The Think Tank is more dangerous than Yes-Man could ever hope to be. You stop them and Mobius in a DLC. There is little to say that him controlling the grid in Vegas is anything more than an inconvenience and most people always end the game with the bare minimum quest requirements. So you have dumb baboons wondering why the Kings still hate the NCR or why the Legion isn't completely destroyed because they left Caesar alive or something else.
>Why
Because killing House and letting the Vegas wasteland be run by the machines that keep every Tom, Dick and Jane who would have tyrannical thoughts get utterly crushed by multi-rocket-dual-gatling police bots while I have free reign to live my life like a God is the only acceptable end game.
House, while right, had literal centuries to correct the problem of the Platinum Chip and it is only a bespoke, star aligned character who somehow has the means to do this, for him. He failed utterly, not in the way of happenstance as the bombs dropped slightly sooner than he had thought, but in his rhetoric and means utterly failing across decades to resolve the problem of securing the wasteland.
He deserved to die, and I sent him to Hell. Every single playthrough.
House was a cunt, he was a good cunt, but still he was a cunt made useless by his own choices.
Smartest man in the world, literally. Gave himself no means to fix his problems. BTFO by his own morality.
Then don't.
There's literally a whole path and ending for that, you dumb fucking moron.
That's literally the point, also
Then don't, that's what an RPG is retard
what do u mean the legion is one of the most based factions ever
maybe if you're 12
Legate bros, we won

Gold as a currency and thus having inherit worth just by the material itself is their only winning point.

It's better than have a clear good and bad guys, for a game like this
bcuz whiteness
Ncr is comfy and morally correct most of the time
It was retarded how much more the ncr had going for it than the rest too
