new vision, new team, new potential to reach out to new demographic
keeping a continuity is costly and even more expensive if you're trying to carry a legacy of individuals who are no longer part of your team.
what an abysmal fricking failure
thank you.
The MK9 reboot was TOO good, these guys arent used to working under pressure like that.
MK2 was amazing, great lore great chars great fatalities, they just didnt know where to take it next. So we got mspaint fatalities and power ranger characters and ear raping techno beats.
Same with MK9, it was just too good do they said "how can we show people that we didnt intend for it to be good, we were aiming for mefiocre but we fricked up!"
And thats MKX and 11, beautiful mediocrity that you dont expect anything of.
it's so meh though
because "modern audience" was not a term at the time of the first reboot and we got a solid game, now video games are made for people who do not play video games
that's all there is to it
And then Raiden was like "I dont care that ur gay"
oof.
That was actually kind of a nice moment. But X is filled with such forgettable shit. 11 doesn't even remember the male characters from X.
and then Quan Chi said the n word
eh raidenchads have been getting fricked ever since they retconned him into some homosexual earthrealm protector
das rite. fricking lame ass protector or even lamer ass ebil star wars bullshit. my raiden is a selfish god who takes mortal form for his own amusement like zeus and fights only for his own ego
They had actually always wanted to do a complete ground-up reboot of the series but when Midway went under they decided to do it more gradually than just completely upending the original canon.
you call mk11 resetting the entire universe gradual?
OP posted MK9. MK11 is closer to what they had in mind originally.
dear fricking god
My guess is where X got such mixed reactions but they changed so much there was no way to unring the bell as it were so we got a reboot.
literally the next game after
what the frick
That's why I guessed as much Boon admitted he though X was going to be more well received than it was and communities were not interested in evil Raiden again.
X just had a plot that went nowhere. Stopping Shinnock the first time should've been the game, not dealing with his resurrection.
It was so fricking weird with all the needless time skips. I get they were trying a "new generation" shit but their are much easier ways to pull that off then have your cast get old and have babies. Still weird as frick X and 11 let parents fatality their kids.
It wasn't all bad, but it's the definition of wasted potential
sigh, imagine if they had actually just continued the MK9 story in MK10.
>we won!
>yeah but at what cost, all our friends are dead!
>omg Quan Chi and Shinok are dicks!
>Hey Quan Chi you frick, give us our friends back!
>oh noes, evil deals that ultimately fricks us over and resurrects Shinok!!
>oooh Goro gets resurrected too.
Instead we got fricking MK The Next Class bullshit.
At least MK11 finally let Liu be a fricking hero again after eight games of being a zombie or being a dick in the new timeline.
Johnny is a better protagonist.
>Instead we got fricking MK The Next Class bullshit
Well, at least on the bright side, the world of SFM/Blender Smut was made better with the creation of MK11 Cassie Cage, so that's got to count for something.
eh, I don't like Cassie. too much of a "women can be stronk too ya know! with like.. the insults!"
I liked the Sindel model from MK11? though, that one's really nice.
God knows what they'll do for MK12.
Strongly disagree. I've busted more nuts to Cassie's MKX model more than times than I've glanced at her MK 11 model. In fact most of the models from that game don't do it for me.
>I liked the Sindel model from MK11
Same. Veiny breasts. Umph.
Because Boon is creatively bankrupt. Warnerbro is going to be sold to the highest bidder in 2024 and they need as much goyslop they can to “buff” the polished turd they have so it looks good for the buyer
they're moronic, simple as
They wrote themselves into a corner when they didn't just resurrect all the dead heroes in MK10. So for MK11, they had to reset everything and fix that, because MK10 made them realize that even when they try to hype up the new characters people still vastly prefer the old ones. NRS insists on having a small roster because unlike Jap fighters they have to make an entirely new moveset for the whole roster instead of improving the old one and the roster has to reflect the story, because they can't just include characters that aren't in the story like every other fighting game.
ayy
Why do fighting games keep trying to kill off their old cast and replace them with a new generation anyways? Has this ever worked well historically?
