+ Quests aren't better than the others, and the only one with an important reward is the chocobo one.
For most part, the must-play sidequests are the ones that come from major characters in the hideout, especially at the end of the game.

NieR sidequests are generic fetch quests moron. The only difference is that there's always some homosexual npc dying or some shit so redditors and sóiboys think it's muh deep and thought provoking sidequest storytelling.

you're not wrong but i still enjoy both NieR games more than 16 in terms of sidequests. Automata i very much enjoyed because the machine interactions were all fun and interesting for me, Replicant i gew a bit tired of but i still enjoyed the depression kino for about half the time. in 16 there's rarely anything worthwhile in the sidequests, it has too much filler dialogue and too much unnecessary walking which makes the little world building you get from them really not worth it most of the time, atleast for me.
I have OCD so I get satisfaction from clearing all the sidequest markings off the map.

The game turns into FFXIV during sidequests and when whatever's happening in the main story isn't super important, complete with awkward emotes and bland camera angles
This game also inherits XIV's bad writing habits in that whenever they're trying to establish something in the setting they lay it on incredibly thick to the point of absurdity, like the quests near Moore where the people are comically racist towards bearers and they keep beating you over the head with it

it's a 1:1 copy of the MMO quest design in 14
same with the awkward pausing in dialogue, the slow animations of handing over items, characters turning around, camera pans and invisible items that you have to slowly pick up by holding down a button for a couple of seconds. it's all awful game design from the MMO copy pasted into this because 14 cultists eat it up

It even has the shitty sheathing animation, I can't believe they didn't make a cooler looking one
