The first third of the game was polished to the Nth degree, and was all that the majority of reviewers were able to play before handing in their work. By the time people reached the final act (which is a mess), the majority of copies had already been sold, and the hype train was on the move.
Combine that with the fact that damn near every other AAA game to come out in the past few years has been garbage thus making this thing look genius in comparison.
It took me more than 100 hours to reach act 3. It was pretty complete when i played it. I don't know how fast you must have played in order to reach act 3 before they released the first few patches. I only hear about people talking about how inclomplete act 3 was but never experienced it myself. Did you even play the game? Is this just some shitpost being shared while having no base in reality?
I think there's one quest in act 3 that is actually incomplete (the fireworks one). Combine that with the fact that there are some bugs, and the meme that the game is "an unfinished mess" emerges

Accordin to the rumors Tencent have actual information on the BG3 success and that what motivated them to talk to WoTC about buying D&D. This is also the reason why WoTC did not want to sell D&D since they also saw huge profits just from the royalties they got from BG3 and from all the tie ins they made like BG3 themed MTG cards.
