OLED TVs are an upgrade in nearly every way. They're lighter, have better contrast and color, and don't suffer from geometry issues or aging hardware. High refresh rate OLED monitors also have great motion clarity.
>I don't regret my purchase, I swear!
Correct
That looks like dogshit
You're just a zoomer who doesn't remember what SOUL used to look like
For old games before the 360 you moron. Not this.
>360
what the frick is a 360?
Turning 360 degrees and walking away.
VGH
zoomers don't know crts arent photographable
lmao, what a moron
Seriously, for what purpose?
What's the matter zoomer, scared?
>that text
He's downscaling from 1080p or higher to a PVM that can't handle image signals larger than 480p, likely through some shitty scaler that's giving him composite-tier video on top of squishing it down to size.
When homosexuals tell you about how great CRTs are, they're usually talking about PC CRTs which were designed to display at higher resolutions,
I hope this is a troll
>I hope this is a troll
You zoomers really don't know what we had to go through just 20 years ago.
360p cope monitor
I own 3 oleds that are hooked up and one crt in the garage.
>great motion clarity
not compared to a crt
Seems good enough to me. I'd rather not sacrifice everything else just to have better motion clarity.
Pretty much this, CRT cultists like to conveniently ignore all the drawbacks and flaws of the technology in favor of a single aspect that's not largely important all things considered.
>turns on moire cancel
Frick that site.
Is there a more reliable one that comes to mind?
>seems good to me
If that's good enough enough then 480i is also good enough.
Just get a projector.
Input lag is disgusting. And burn in makes them unusable.
But muh %5 grey
>OLED TVs are an upgrade in nearly every way
They have the same motion blur issues as LCD's. Making them absolutely useless.
>High refresh rate OLED monitors also have great motion clarity.
High refresh rate doesn't get rid of motion blur, you need high refresh rate + a strobing backlight. This causes lots of other problems and you need a refresh rate of about 480hz to get rid of motion blur.
So in our current state of 120hz OLED's we can reduce the blur but not eradicate it, we're a long way off.
OLED is a colossal meme and an enormous waste of money. You're better off getting a plasma.
>They're lighter
Are you carrying your OLED around to school with you every day? What on earth does that have to do with anything>? You stick your TV on a bench and you fricking leave it there until it explode and then you get a new one.
Come back once you've tried carrying a 120 lb CRT TV to your living room. No one liked carrying bulky, heavy TVs home. Companies dropped CRT technology fast once LCDs became cheap to produce because CRTs are unwieldy.
Phones use OLED specifically because they burn in.
And video games are probably the fastest way to cause burn in with how many static elements can be on screen from a game's ui.
>DF releases video
>Entire market explodes in price
fricking every time.
>israelites buy crt screens en masse
>israelites pay ECELEB Black person to produce OP's video
>israelites win big money from soi-faced morons
seems to be a prety reliable method at this point
>same moron is still making his Ganker and Ganker threads
nobody cares about CRT's, even relatively old LCD's are an upgrade, commit uninstall life NOW
>even relatively old LCD's are an upgrade
LCD's are dogshit man. However, there are only a few CRT monitors worth owning and finding any of them either in the wild or online in working condition is becoming harder and harder. Not to mention buying one online is a gamble because it could get destroyed during shipping unless whoever ships it to you bags it and then encases it entirely in expandable foam.
CRT color profiles are just insanely better. You literally cannot capture it on an LCD or OLED screen. OLED does dark blacks, but it's still not the same behavior of light that CRTs offer.
CRTs can't even manage sRGB, lol.
sRGB is literally modeled on CRTs
take the plasma pill
t. plays consoles on a 60 inch plasma that I got for free
plasmas are just as heavy as crts and come with burn in
it's pointless to even have one
it's kino to have a medium that is basically nonexistent now. everybody sucks off CRTs but almost nobody has a plasma, so I feel like a hipster.
the image quality kicks the shit out of my LCD and LED tv's (maybe I just had shitty ones), but my main complaint is the heat it gives off is basically that of a nuclear reactor
u can get a oled for under 600$ now
which will never get burn in unless you use it like a moron
when my massive supernova plasma kicks the bucket (it will), I will consider OLED. I remember OLED having weird motion blur though (my stepdad has one)
Yes, but they have just as good motion clarity and they come in much larger sizes. Plus they're 16:9, the aspect ratio all modern consoles and games run in.
slightly better motion clarity is not a real benefit when contrast ratio is utter garbage on anything else
I want pure blackness
>good motion clarity and they come in
plasma has worst input latency than crt
>plasmas are just as heavy as crts
A 27" CRT weights around 100lbs
A 60" Plasma weights around 60lbs
Why you lyin?
>40 pound difference
like that makes a difference
you're going to yank your back out anyways
A 60" CRT, if one such existed, would weigh over 1000lbs
Nothing short of a 300lb tv should throw out your back if you are a man with normal test levels
all it takes is one trip with it in hands and you will frick your spine
>100 lbs
>60 lbs
>too heavy
Are you like 4'8 or something
Weighs.
ngl i watch all my old tv on a CRT and sometimes i do wish it wouldn't illuminate the entire bedroom during bright scenes as i'm falling asleep
CRTs are just plain better for video games.
I don't care about movies.
cope LCDtroid
Activate Windows you fricking tight c**t
Windows?
Fix your geometry too while you're at it
>iOS
Ok I can respect that.
brazilian hands typed this
wait, is it true they still manufacture CTRs there
Holly shit, i have that game in the PS4, great Castlevania tribute.
But the way it looks through CRT is uncanny, it looks impressive!!
It seriously looks better than 1080 LCD.
As someone who is actually old enough to remember what CRT gaming was really like, I don't miss this shit in the slightest.
Crts were eyestrain migraine monstrosities. Thank frick there gone. I do miss light gun games though.
But seriously CRTs were fricking awful. A high quality crt wasnt that bad but the majority of monitors back in the day were absolute pain machines
>mfw I have CRTs, OLEDs, and LCDs depending on use case and what I'm feeling.
Feels good being idort.
LCDs serve no purpose when you have a OLED
Maybe, but I have a small vertical LCD on the side that I use for text, vertically oriented websites, doujinshi, etc that would be a waste of money to upgrade to OLED for no benefit.
>how do we keep selling these things to people who aren't trying to buy their childhood back with objectively inferior equipment
When will millennials grow up?
>Made $9k last year selling Dell trinitrons on ebay that my mom would get for free from the school as they were replacing them
felt good
Impressive, very nice
Let's see the texts now
The CRT they used is a 24" 1440p display.
Text is fine on PC CRTs
goddamn, that's some impressive lost tech
post address and when you are out of the house
meh FW is just eh.
4:3 is just better, you could get a 4:3 pc crt that btfos FW900 if you sold it to some reddit moron for 2000
How's the brightness and contrast on the fw900? Got me a w900, instead of fw900 and I wasn't that all impressed with the brightness since, compared to a cheapo mid 2000s with dot mask, the cheapo CRT monitor still felt like it could go brighter without losing deep black contrast.
The only CRTs that can rival modern OLED displays are high-end PC CRTs like the FW900 and BVMs.
based moron i love you without people like you i couldnt make a fortune on bvms.
yeah they are amazing, so amazing that low end pc monitors btfo most bvms kek
You will never be a woman
yes i will always be a rich man
>so amazing that low end pc monitors btfo most bvms kek
No they don't you braindead moron.
oh yeah definetely 480p/1080i 60hz BVM definetely btfos 1024p 75hz monitor
BVMs have far better color reproduction, higher TVLines than most PC CRTs that make them sharper at the same resolution, calibration adjustments, native 240p/480i support, digital signal connections, and more.
Stay moronic
now show me the dot pitch
BVM dot pitches can be as tight as 0.22 (BVM-14E1/14E5)
https://warosu.org/vr/thread/S9062842#p9068975
>BVM dot pitches can be as tight as 0.22 (BVM-14E1/14E5)
lol .22 pitch at 14inch.
meanwhile monitors have .22 pitch at 21".
keep coping with having payed 50 times as much for something worse though
Most monitors don't have a .22 dot pitch though, except for things like the FW900. The average is closer to .25
congrats on being poor i guess?
>lol .22 pitch at 14inch
Yeah, and that specific model of BVM has a higher pixel density than any PC CRT in existence by a longshot.
480p/1080i max, stfu moron even your average 17" office shitbox can do way more
it is funny seeing bvmtards trying to justify paying these price though
The BVM-F24 can do 1080p and 2160i.
oh wow thats pretty sick, 1080p at 60hz.
My pc monitor can do 1080p at 110hz though.
ah who cares, the bvm only costs 50 times as much, cant expect it to have high refresh rates right?
oh yeah absolutely.
Im sure the colors are much better on most BVMs, after all the phosphors are magically better.
And you are right the adjustments are amazing.
Dont worry, if I get another BVM in ill reserve it for you if you give me a 2000$ deposit now
Yeah, that's why broadcast studios and color graders used PC CRTs instead of CRTs designed specifically with color accuracy and critical evaluation in mind that cost up to 40k new LOL!
damn you are moronic lol BVMs have a ton of features only broadcast studios would ever need.
You are not a broadcast studio.
>xcept for things like the FW900
fw900 does not have that lol are you trolling?
Anyways the average BVM dot pitch is somewhere around 25 or more so i dont know what kind of point you are trying to make with your averages.
And just to rub salt in a little more, a 19" monitor with .25 dot pitch is still better then 14" with .22 for high resolutions
>19" monitor with .25 dot pitch is still better then 14" with .22 for high resolutions
At the same resolution? False.
you are right, 480p is gonna look much better on the pc monitor due to its bigger size.
If two displays with the same exact specs are outputting the same image and resolution with only difference being screen size, the smaller one is going to look sharper due to having a higher pixel density.
Easiest example of this is the 3DS and 3DS XL. The 3DS XL is identical to the 3DS in everything but size, and looks worse due to being larger.
absolutely right.
So when are you upgrading to this?
>monochrome
You tried. A+ for effort
just an exagurated example to show you how stupid this line of thinking is.
I have a 15" and a 28" crt TV.
Am I gonna play on the smaller one because it has a higher pixel density?
offcourse not.
crts with the same specs but bigger size were more expensive because bigger size is better
>crts with the same specs but bigger size were more expensive because bigger size is better
No, it's because bigger CRTs are more expensive to manufacture and ship.
so why did people buy and continue to buy bigger tv sets if smaller is always superior?
Because Americans have the bigger is better mentality.
Would you rather watch 1080p on a 65 inch TV or a 24 inch monitor?
how far away from the screen am i
One foot from both
i don't want to use either at such a range
my face was 3 feet away from my 17 inch crt
>Would you rather watch 1080p on a 65 inch TV or a 24 inch monitor?
on a 65inch TV offcourse except sitting a few foot back on my sofa.
lcd oled and crtgays lets just enjoy the diversity and stop fighting
exactly, just keep what you have if your happy.
Frick consumer culture and frick "upgrading"
I do enjoy collecting crts though
Not possible, OLED and CRTgays are practically cultists
Shame CRTgays can't show off motion clarity. If you aren't a brainlet and can process faster than 30fps most CRTs look much better than an OLED.
it's definitely something you can only demonstrate in-person
the best test is https://www.testufo.com/photo#photo=toronto-map.png&pps=960&pursuit=0&height=0&stutterfreq=0&stuttersize=0
the text is perfectly legible at speed on crt, and on a sample and hold display (all lcd, all oled) is an absolute mess
pc crts are literally the best viewing experience you can get and i have 8 of them. if i can find a 21"+ pc crt for not assfrickingly expensive, it will replace my 4k monitor in a second. the quality of content that we had when they were widely used was way behind what they could actually pull off. Literally their full potential was never realized
i need to get myself some more 21" ones aswell i only have 6 working ones these days
based id be willing to pay like 300 for one if it worked and was good on geometry. im not buying a monitor for 1k+ though. if i didnt use a couple of programs that feel too cramped on a 17 i would use it as a daily driver.
most I payed was 20 for 21" flat sony GDM meme monitor
nice. most ive gotten for free and i think i paid 25 for a sony. bigger screens for cheep are almost unobtanium where i am.
it looks bad
I play sometimes on a 15 year old or so CRT we have here at the house. It has some burn in on the top corner but it works fine for the most part.
Colors and motion clarity are way better than all the LCDs here, but the size and them being huge is kinda lame. Only good for contemporary tech, I guess.
nostalgia is a hell of a drug
CRTs don't support HDR so OLED is superior by default.
Something like an FW900 is nice but most CRTs are garbage and 24" is too small anyway.
I can't imagine gaming on anything smaller than 27" on a desk let alone from a couch where I want 60"+.
Let go of old technology weird significant drawbacks and get an OLED or miniLED if you're a schizo about burn-in.
3D HMD>3D (with 2D to 3D conversion) TV>FED monitor>CRT monitor>Plasma>CRT TV>Projector>LED>LCD
Most important consideratons (in order):
1. 3D
2. Input lag
3. Image size
4. Burn in
5. Colour depth
6. Brightness
7. Blacks
8. Refresh rate
9. Power draw
10. Resolution
you know at this point i'm wondering why they don't release movies for vidya consoles just for the sake of demonstrating real-time rendering
e.g. something like guilty gear xrd's story "mode" that's basically a kinetic novel
Why make them movies if you can make them games?
Watch The Quarry on youtube, or play it. It's virtually what you're talking about.
those used to exist on demo discs and at like e3 and shit
I'm not paying $500 for a PVM.
OP is not a PVM and you won't get for even close to $500.
hdmi has too much latency compared to rca
Why is CRT so much better than BURN-IN OLED?
Stores dont want to have a few CRTs take up a ton of shelf space when they could just do fine with a ton of LCD monitors that are super light to carry.
crts are heavy as frick, son
Not really. Plasmas are though. They're about 4x heavier.
you never carried a 40 inch crt before then
I've never seen a crt tv that big but i've carried normal sized ones as a kid. Not a big deal at all.
my dad bought one
had to have 2 men carry it up the stairs
I wish I could have taken it when he gave it away but I had no space for it in my room ;_;
My dad gave away my crt tv that I got as a birthday present. And I had to give & throw away all my stuff because he was going to sell the house and move. I didn't have a place of my own, so nowhere to store it all.
A huge crt would have been cool back then, especially if you had lightgun games. I've seen rear projection screens in a event room behind a bar and on the curb, they're cool too.
I bought a widescreen crt that had red, blue, green and YELLOW, for $100 in 2015, I looked online and when it was new it cost $3500. Cut some timber and screwed together a frame for it so I could watch it laying down. Only way I could really, I was sleeping in a sea container on a work site. Played 360 games on it and used most of my pay to buy 360 games. Had around 20 to 30. Left all that behind too when I demanded the guy who was running the job pay my boss, so he could pay me. Fired of course. And he went on holiday instead of paying my boss propperly.
what sort of fricked up country you live in where you have to stand up for your boss?
you shoulda been promoted to boss
Australia. And work is hard to get. And people screw you over as the norm. I liked my boss, he was a good person and had a kid to consider, he talked about cutting his losses and I convinced him to stay. I expected to get paid at the end of the job, not much, but something, a few grand for however long it was, 1-3 months. I've been paid more in a week. Working pretty much just because I liked him. I got $500 twice I think. Not enough to cover groceries. I lived mostly on pizza from a bin behind a supermarket, and before I moved into a sea container I slept in a nature reserve.
It was a pretty good setup. I used showers in or near a caravan park to stay clean. Watched dvd movies in a library on a pc meant to browse the catalogue.
Did a lot of walking, took the train, sneaking on. Didn't need money. Hadn't had any for months before. I worked for a guy before that for $50 a day and he even didn't pay me that. He had a kid too, only paid 12 grand off his house after whatever years. He spent as much as I wanted to be paid on the horses every day. I got to see some areas I wouldn't have though.
Disgusts me how some people take the dole or work useless jobs. But they end up looking like it, so it's fair.
>But they end up looking like it, so it's fair.
never thought of it this way
bump
What's my guy waffling on about
It depends. 20" slot masks are pretty easy around 25lbs but aperture grilles weigh a lot more (I have a 15" monitor that's 33lbs) and the square cube rule makes a big difference so something like a 27" Trinitron is a fricking anchor in the 100lb range.
those things weigh a billion tons
normies will never buy crt and crt peopple will never buy new.
shilling monitors is so pointless, lets just enjoy em instead
>but i need to explain le lcd moron about motion blur
try explaining a photosensor to a Black person anon.
fools errand in the same way.
in one ear out the other 0 understanding
someone is selling a Samtron crt monitor near me, I want it but they want too much for it
I love CRTs. I own 3 TVs (one of them too old go even have composite) and a Syncmaster monitor. Playing retro stuff, 4:3 visual novels and watching 90s anime on them feel and look amazing. You guys enjoy paying $600 for technology that is still trying to catch up tho.
>find commodore monitor while I'm out of town one day
>can do S-Video with a cheap adapter
>have spare PS3 laying around to use as a media player
>someone donated a bunch of anime DVDs to a thrift store nearby I got for $2 each
>find a bunch of other old TV show DVDs for cheap because nobody cares anymore
Peak comfy
crts are comfy and fun i love em but i would NEVER recommend them.
>bulky
>low brightness
>flicker
they are perfect for me, but certainly not everyone
How the frick do you even find one reliably in the wild?
>t. PA tree dweller
What is this gay thread??? My first 55 inches LCD TV broke after my dad bought Xbox360 and I have stuck with playing games on shitty CRT screen for almost 6 months before we can buy a new TV, it was fricking horrible experience and you're telling me playing modern games on CRT is better?
Frick you boomers, go eat shit
CRTs and composite video are not one in the same.
Not really used for modern games by many people, but retro gaming and media ya they can be better experience than many flat panels
The moment you needed more clarity in a video game than what a consumer grade CRT could offer, video games lost their soul.
crts are mindblowing
crt morons will look at this image and agree with it.
once you buy a hrt um i mean crt tv you can never go back
Isn't the 19" Sony PMC like the holy grail of CRTs.
If you actually want some of that ancient technology, look for plasma TVs on craigslist and facebook marketplace. I've seen a bunch of them over the past year that just languish for weeks because no one wants them. Once the CRT meme is over in a few years after the good ones start costing $5k+ and the rest start to break down, people will probably start crazing after old plasma TVs after some homosexual youtuber makes a 1 hour video like "PLASMA TVs ARE BETTER THAN OLED????" Get on that now if you want one, I see big ass ones for like $50-100 regularly.
I don't want a big screen TV at all for one thing and I'm not shopping random used TVs for gaymen when most are laggy as frick.
