Mentally ill developers from 2007-Present.
troonys and women with too much stake in development and storytelling
This along with a lack of attention span and desire to be entertained by the playerbase.
The average WoW player doesn't want "fun". They want the complete opposite, to suck every last drop of joy out of it until it is solved, farmed, and they have their trophy. Then they shelve it while talking about how bad it was in hindsight.
It's a job you pay money to go to.
honestly if you fixed the playerbase that is probably half the problems solved
its an online game where you are forced to play with mentally ill disgusting depressed passive-aggressive homosexuals
ffxiv has the right idea of making their mmo online-singleplayer because people that play mmos are absolutely awful these days
A myriad of small things that piled up over the year.
This. Each patch since day one did a little bit of damage to the game in some way, and here we are today in 2022 and it's basically beating a dead horse that has already rotted away at this point.
Playerbase friction. There is no agreement between the casual players, the hardcore players, the new players and the old ones on what is actually good game design. You'd think there is one objective right answer but it can't be applied to a game like WoW anymore with how much MMOs have changed and how much the playerbase has not changed
mostly this
for every single decision blizzard makes 2 million people will vehemently love it and 2 million will vehemently hate it
gaming has changed since 2004
the only way to solve that issue would be to go all in on either returning the game to its roots or completely cutting out the old core audience, neither of which blizzard seems willing to do so they just stay in this nebulous middle ground where the game isn’t quite an mmorpg any more but also isn’t just a completely modernized arcady game
an issue blizzard could solve though is getting better developers, the amount of bugs and issues with the game is just pathetic and it especially hurts considering just how high quality the game (and all of blizzards titles) used to be, unfortunately corporate greed and contempt slowly infected blizz to the point where now good devs don’t want to work there anymore
this plus data mining, all the hardcore players want to min-max and casuals can play super casually by just looking up shit online.
There is no playing the game left, someone already calculated all the best options and everyone plays the game on autopilot.
WoW is still the best mmo on the market.
FFXIV players are too busy to actually play the game
>FFXIV players are too busy erping in limsa and grooming sprouts
ftfy
Naturally no one believes twitch viewership is a metric for quality or popularity overall - but within the genre of two directly competing games I've yet to see a good answer as to why the apparently more popular, better game consistently has 5-10x less viewers than WoW and only gets notable viewership when established WoW streamers play it.
This simple fact always ass blasts FFtards so hard
COPE
Yes that is what you are doing
>FFXIV players are too busy to actually play the game
yeah. busy playing WoW
story doesn't matter in an MMO
music doesn't matter in an MMO
characters don't matter in an MMO
lore doesn't matter in an MMO
content doesn't matter in an MMO
community doesn't matter in an MMO
only twitch numbers matter in an MMO
Twitch ruined video games.
Video Games went from being about sustaining an enjoyable experience for hours, to leading up to a single or a couple payoffs designed to bait a Twitch Streamers reactions to a “reveal” or some such nonsense.
You get rid of the Asmongoloids and the Destiny’s of video gaming, you fix it as a whole.

😀
haha
Overemphasis on twitch is just a marketing misalignment on the part of the publishers.
It's not actually that important and can be safely ignored by devs & players.
does destiny even game or does he just do stupid "debates"
Destiny is in his emo phase because his filthy prostitute of a girlfriend left him. He deserves it because he literally cucked a viewer to get her https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFx4AT6QCGY
God I hope this is true; it warms my heart to see a neocon Trotskyite disguised as a liberal get absolutely cucked.
If any of those mattered people wouldn't play ffxiv.
>story doesn't matter in an MMO
correct. MMOs take place in a persistent world, therefore any and all story events must always end with the world returning to the status quo. this, in turn, leads to weak villains and a loss of emotional investment from the audience
>music doesn't mater in an MMO
correct. the expansive nature of MMOs requires the soundtrack to have a massive number of different tracks, and because no mass-produced product will ever be known for its quality, the best case scenario will be one or two stand-out pieces amidst an ocean of forgettable garbage
>characters don't matter in an MMO
correct. due to the nature of patch cycles, the story in any MMO is delivered in bite-sized pieces over the course of months. the audience will often fill in the blanks of character traits and motivations, forcing writers to continuously warp a character's traits and motivations to suit what the audience expects rather than what the author intends
>lore doesn't matter in an MMO
correct. much like capeshit, MMOs often change out writing staff every few years. remarkably few of those new staff members will have comprehensive knowledge of the game's lore, much less the previous writing team's intentions. this, in turn, leads to the lore aping established mythologies and belief systems.
>content doesn't matter in an MMO
incorrect. content is ALL that matters in an MMO. not only will second-to-second gameplay always be weak compared to any other game of the same generation due to the "massively multiplayer" element of the genre, but the entire appeal of the genre at this point in time is the continuous drip-feed of content. MMOs are no longer the primary means of socializing online, and online games are now commonplace
>community
every online community is full of shitheads. no exceptions.
Imagine having typed all of this up.
Wow drones are pathetic.
>only twitch numbers matter in an MMO
Correct
almost true. same applies to all games though not just MMO
I would stop and watch a trainwreck before I would a functional train passing by.
15 minutes wait time for a dungeon in WoW
4 minutes wait time for a duty(dungeon) in XIV
keep coping blizzdrone
Mentally ill trannies moved to FF because they couldn't remain in groups and guilds without getting kicked. Random dungeons are for those trannies and lonelies, which is why there's less queuetime in FF.
WoW you get banned for so much as looking the wrong way at someone. The game feels like a failed police state, which is why the playerbase died. Nobody wants to live like that.
Would rather have a mentally ill playerbase I can ignore or block than a mentally ill developer who shoves their illness in your face constantly and you can't block.
What a moronic take, you play a MMO for the people and FF is by far the more cancerous and LGBT+++ infested shithive I've ever seen. The tranime aesthetic attracts those morons to the point that I had to close off every public channel

That's why I added those 2 conditions.
they are the most hostile and miserable people around, constantly bullying others. it makes it so much easier to hate them. they use their lgbt identity to get away with being trash humans. total scum
>they are the most hostile and miserable people around

True, the LGBT community is nothing more than backstabbers that thrive on drama.
I've never seen people harass LGBT players in games but they are always attacking others for no reason even new players that make a wrong turn in a dungeon for example.

People are complaining about tank scarcity because the community itself gatekeeps itself to hell and back.
>b***h and moan and cry if your tank isn't in BiS gear and pulling exactly at the pace you prefer
>complain about no one wanting to tank
You did it to yourselves.
Wasn’t classic tbc also having a tank scarcity for this very reason? People that wanted tanks to pull huge trash mobs so they can aoe them down and if the tank was unable to hold aggro they’d be flamed and booted out of the party.
Yeah. The community is the reason for the tank shortage because they're buttholes to tanks that aren't raid geared and flawless. But they will never play tank themselves. It's a weird autistic entitlement culture from the crusty and angry middle aged incels still playing WoW.
biggest cope ive ever seen
That's really curious because it's the total opposite for me, maybe it's the time.
The fact that either game has this kind of matchmaking is proof that neither is really an MMORPG
I agree fully with this. I think this shows how far the genre has fallen if this is how people are ranking things.
Why would you queue for a wow dungeon after the first week.
You can literally solo the queueable versions with current gear, but again, why bother?
>twitch numbers
moron
Is that supposed to be a prestigious title?
Because most people don't "play" FFXIV, it's a grown man ERP chatroom so there's not much to stream.
That's not a very high praise, you know
No it's not. Tower of Fantasy has more viewers.
>tab target mmos
Literally nothing wrong with tab target
ok boomer
tab targetting fricking sucks, selects shit you never intended to target all the time. Fricking picks target behind your character in many cases. It's not good.
Is it really that hard to click your intended target? Do you click your spells instead?
What game is this semen demon from?

That's like saying a pile of shit with sprinkles on it looks better than a few other bigger piles.

>More people watch wow than play
>more people play xiv than watch xiv
What's your point? How does this make wow the better game?
Wow has only 34k players remaining (now less since then), it has been confirmed
They hired women and "women"
mmos are for stupid people
Is that line still in the game? I would imagine the modern devs want nothing to do with silence of the lambs.
It put the money target on Blizzard’s back.
If not for this single game, the industry would look radically different, and better. Blizzard would still be making amazing games, which other people would copy ad infinitum, creating whole new genres like the moba genre.
Instead, you bought. 50 dollar, 15 dollars a month + micro transaction piece of shit because of how fun it was to be an orc and wander around Thunderbluff. You killed the market, and you killed blizzard. When they fell and everyone tried to make a “wow killer”, the entire hobby was lost.
Not even Pokémon and Halo did the damage this game did. Of course, I never loved those franchises.

They've already said they'll follow the money.

got infested with WoW players
WoW tokens and other real world money shop bullshit, simple as
Most talented people left in the past 10 years and now it's mostly trannies, women and diversity-quota hires (see last dev public presentation)
The playerbase is basically a bunch of crack addicts that would eat shit out of a Black person butthole if blizzard told them to
Story is just moronic since they got lost into filler content from Cataclysm onwards. WoW should've been Vanilla -> TBC -> WOTLK -> Legion and then move on to WoW 2 / Warcraft 4

I don't know, I'm leaning towards fake but I wouldn't be surprised at this point
99% sure it's fake, just google >wrathion "black lives matter"< and you won't get a single hit. Something like this would get people talking, positively and negatively
Not if it's hidden in a Dragonflight alpha that only 7 youtube shills are playing
You'd still get a lot of people talk about it, [current political thing] is guaranteed clicks and huge follower/subscriber boosts
it feels fake because saying it in this context is sacrilegious to their religion.
they would never utter those sacred words in any way that could be construed as a joke.
also, stop saying wrathion's humanoid form is black, it's clearly a dark skinned arab.
>it's clearly a dark skinned arab.
Bethesda told us there is no such thing as Arabs. Redguards are culturally Arabian-Persian, but anything that isn't white = 100% BIXNOOD GORILLA NOSED CONGO Black person
To be honest, if you're a big powerful dragon and you manage to get oppressed by what is essentially monkeys with sticks.
You deserve it.
because of autistic raidgays. Everything had to be dumbed down so those spergs could minmax their class for a few nights per week just to top parse. The absolute autism raiding was and even has become is hilarious. Idc about 'git gud' nonsense, I disagree with raiding as a design concept.
It didn't, but it has a smaller playerbase because people get sick of playing games. It happens to every game.
>this thread
that actually made me lol out loud anon, fukken saved
post of the month, well done
Maybe there's a limit to how long people can stay interested in one game where the expansions don't radically alter the content.
Shitposting and Gankerhomosexualry aside-
WoW "died" because it constantly and continuously pandered to casual homosexuals and kept making the game easier and easier and more streamlined. Every expac made the game simpler and more straight-forward in one way or another, and with Activi$ion at the helm, they steered away from making a fun RPG and instead designed the game to maximize player-interaction metrics and ingame cash shop purchasing.
The lore keeps getting more and more moronic fanfiction-tier with every expac. It was already pretty dumb by post-Cata but now it's just pants-on-head moronic.
The only reason WoW hasn't died yet is because nothing has come along that outshines it in enough ways. FF14 is close but still has plenty of annoying flaws of its own.
But anon, the game is shit for casuals. You need to spend roughly 4 hours a day grinding content to do any of the fun endgame content, even just fun normal raids or (non-plus) mythic dungeons. People that have maybe 4 hours on weekends to play games with are expected to grind every single day, multiple avenues of content. It's a bad game for casuals and it's a bad game for hardcore players.
And FF14 is shit because again, you need to invest half your life just to finish the story. Personally, I couldn't stop vomiting past the UI long enough to make it very far.
this is what alt-right incels tell themselves to appease their mental illness, in reality it's
the community killed wow
you saw it in classic too, game becomes transactional
shitloads of people buy gold and participate in gdkp, its crazy
people want purples and they want them now, the average wow player is now in his 30s, has a job, family and no time to roll on loot
so they buy everything with their additional income, its not about community, gameplay or anything else but purples
there are guilds that come only together to speedrun a raid and want to have nothing to do with each other for the rest of the week until they log in on raid day again
>the average wow player is now in his 30s, has a job, family and no time to roll on loot
This has always been the case or do you think there weren't any 30+ year old WoW players 15 years ago?
The issue isn't the player, it's the company that allows gold buying and even introducing p2w with WoW tokens.
most of the people ive ran into in my almost 3y of classic are 30 +-3 years
they were kids back then and want to relive their youth
There's also a shitton of young people wanting to see what's the big fuss is all about. Until you show me statistics proving me wrong your argument remains anecdotal.
what can i say, play the game and see for yourself homosexual
there arent any young people playing wow classic or wow in general, blizzard has already revealed their average player is 28yo, white, male
no zoomer will touch this shitshow with a ten foot pole
The devs should have taken a firmer stance on moderation ages ago. The players will always try to go where the fence is lowest and it's up to the developers to make sure that the integrity of the game is upheld.
Advertising boosting should be a bannable offense, no matter where it is done.
>WoW "died" because it constantly and continuously pandered to casual homosexuals and kept making the game easier and easier and more streamlined.
>1 mechanic per boss 1 button per rotation Molten Core
you cant compare MC then to now
classic was on the latest patch of the game, every class has a discord with dedicated players, optimal gear and skill layout with buffs and timings for each phase of a boss
back then meta was evolving, it is solved now
>it constantly and continuously pandered to casual homosexuals
moronic surface level observation. WoW was ruined because the creative leads were replaced with sweaty le hardcore homosexuals who didn't pander to the casual player enough. With the expansions, the majority of the effort was put into a part of the game that the vast majority of the playerbase would never see, so they gradually made the rest of the game easier and easier to usher characters to endgame faster. This has snowballed into the overcomplicated immersion-destroying nothing-game we have today. Current WoW is designed for people levelling their 50th alt, not the fricking casual player.
The irony is that the game is awful for casuals. No one likes participation awards in form of lfr, catch ups etc. It denies any progress and feeling of accomplishment and leads to WoW being this very short, seasonal thing with expiry date looming over the horizon, where you either pump hard from day 1 every single week and burn out to RNG or you drop the game because you feel like you joined too late into the patch cycle and all the work now will be completely nullified within a month or two. It's a game completely broken from a design standpoint.
if not for catchups playing more than 1 character would be pure hell
Unironically the game died for real when they introduced WoW tokens. It's the one, single thing that killed the game. It has been more detrimental than LFR, phasing and titanforging combined.
Pay 2 Play format doesn’t work anymore, especially for WoW Classic it’s the reason my whole group quit classic playing monthly for over a decade old game is the most israeli shit ever
A subscription is the best payment option for an MMORPG, so you and your friend don't understand or know shit. Frick you.
The problem is when you have a cash shop and p2w on top of the sub.
it went from being about as difficult and punishing as FFXI or Eve Online in it's early years only for it to become a casualized shithole where you can literally pay $5 to start with a max lvl character.
Comic is a (you)-issue
Reading the wiki, or any other piece of media, in any game ever without NEEDING to to progress or be better (for competitive raiding, for example) is the first mistake people make nowadays
and yet it's expected and encouraged, in EVERY game
there are entire communities that just tell you to read guides in order to even join them, and will excommunicate you for daring to just play a videogame without them because you're wasting their precious time by not completing your chores as efficiently as possible
I've never had a problem with people being munchkins, but it's annoying how prevalent it's become in videogames.
>level 20 in dire maul
that's why
lobby/queue design largely kills the social element and without the social element an MMORPG is just a chore simulator.
WoW wasn't particularly difficult or well written at launch. The biggest thing of note was that people didn't have guides telling them the best way to do things, so they experimented. 10-15man raids on the spire to account for the fact that half of the people were poorly outfitted and had no idea what they were doing. A bunch of weird kiting tactics and exploratory gameplay in general.
The expansions streamlined things, but not really in the way people imply. Instead of a world with various incongruent (and often poorly designed) quest threads to jump between, you had an increasingly curated path through the zones and an increasingly well connected playerbase.
Wowhead and similar sites went from being utilized by the most committed people to default tools.
because just about every update has been focused on a dwindling subset of hardcore raid grinders
see also: Everquest after Tigole was done with it.
why is the argument for wows downfall always it became too much raiding or too casual?
because the people who quit are either hardcore or toxic casuals and complain about their inverse since they refused to engage with any content in the middle
how do you b***hes reconcile that the big complaint rn with wow is that "the raids are too hard" and "everything takes too much time!!!" with "they catered to casuls, that why game died xd"
raidhomosexuals can't accept that they're a tiny minority and that pandering to them is what killed the game
show me your parse
the people making those complaints don't play the game anymore
the current in-game complaints are from the casuals mentioned by the aforementioned group
simple as
bro there are people who have been playing 16 hours a day for 10+ years
They're trying to cater to multiple different demographics and the complaints are indicative of the perspective of the given demographic.
Casuals don't like how long it takes to get the cool gear. They lack the time/interest to drop 4 hour blocks to raid.
Idiots keep standing in the fire, so even if time isn't a constraint they have trouble with the raids.
Raiders meanwhile see Blizz's half-hearted attempts at catering to the aforementioned as a distraction from their core purpose.
people selling raid runs has completely ruined most mmos. people are incentivized to keep things exclusive so rarely will they ever pick up new players to progress even if they are good. good riddance wow was always trash this is a natural progression
Thats actually a decent question. I'm of the opinion that encounter design in WoW is the least of the worries because at this point its what makes it unique among the rest. Keep the raids hard but lower the time wasting mechanics around it. Its a way of appeasing both casual and raidmonkeys at the same time
Two threads on the front page, one glorifying ff14 and another calling wow dead. Me thinks there's troony discord ops at work.

Am i the only one noticing the game was at its most popular when content was at its easiest?
WotLK?
You're not the only one. MMOs have been ruined by the very vocal "hardcore" players, when in reality the main target audience is 20 year old stoners/dad gamers.
The issue with developing a MMO is that there is no main target audience. The goal should be to create an ecosystem in which different types of players can all thrive. The hardcore players want to deep dive into raids or competitive PVP, and to facilitate this they need more casual players to also be on their server. They need a population of people who will act as material farmers and crafters to keep the server economy running smoothly. The casuals likewise benefit from aping the character builds established by the hardcore players. There needs to be a multitude of different dispositions all communicating in /general to keep things interesting.
>Datamine everything eight months ahead of an update aside from one or two cutscenes because the addon authors need to make scripts for them
>"Wow why is WoW dying???"
If there's any single thing to emphasize, it would be the exploration aspect of gameplay. MMOs don't do well after all the mystique is gone.
Nah, frick the hardcore players. And I say that as one myself, there isn't a single game that got better by appealing to no-lifes.
If you want to make a good MMO again then you gotta listen to this guy
and make an MMO that can't be datamined/min-maxed day1.
>make an MMO that can't be datamined/min-maxed day1
I've advocated for some kind of secretive cloud-gaming MMO ever since those Onlive ads were being spammed everywhere for this precise reason. Not only would datamining be impossible, but people wouldn't even have to know if or when an update/balance patch had been released. Maybe I just haven't thought about the logistics of it enough but it seems like a good way of bringing back the mystique factor present in older MMOs, as well as giving the technology an actual gameplay purpose.
Something like this would save the genre, doubt it'll happen anytime soon though. You need money to make an MMO and investors don't want to take risks, just make a generic wow-clone and call it a day.
That's why Ashes of Creation is going to save the genre.
never ever
Just wait till Alpha 2 hits
In five more years.
Assuming we don't die in WW3
Bad part of cloud-anything is once it gets hacked, pretty much every bit of it is now everywhere. Source code, account information, anything logged. It's not secure enough.
It has it's incentives. Notably that MMOs thrive on population, and this would ensure literally anyone with a computer and a somewhat up-to-date internet connection would be able to play to an equal standard. It could be the most enormous hardware-crippling game in existence and still attract a huge amount of players from all walks of life.
1 boss in Ulduar had more mechanics than entirety of Molten Core/BWL/Naxx combines.
The rotations for classes became more complex, too. WotLK was the most challenging PvE experience yet.
>when content was at its easiest
That was because the effort (testing, boss design, QA) wasn't put into making challenging bosses, but put into making the world feel alive and giving reasons for people to interact in the world.
This started in WOTLK with the whole dungeon and raid finders thing where it wasn't anymore about travelling to get to your destination and the potential interactions between, but just teleport, kill dungeon asap and get loot.
> rotations for classes became more complex
This isn't a bad thing, but one thing that was inevitably lost with the game over time is the sense of wonder and exploration. I notice I log in now just to queue up for some M+, whereas before I would log in to explore a world, maybe RP as a ganker or something and really immerse myself.
Audiences changing is another factor. I would never in a million years go back to WoW to socialize because theres so many fricking homosexuals on there now. If it was 2004-2007 when people took things less seriously then I wouldn't mind.
I don't think it was super popular because it was the easiest, I think wow was just marketed very well compared to other MMOs
No. 95% of players are casuals, they just want to play the game and have fun with cool spells and shit.
all things die eventually
not having to download addons and stuff in classic wow was fun
Muh endgame metagays
a multitude of reasons. the biggest being that, like most media giants, they let people who aren't qualified into lead positions where they make awful choices.

nuwow is so confusing
developers being moronic and no longer listening to their playerbase
playerbase being moronic and not knowing what they want
game was built around a mentality of players that has changed too much since 2005
got so popular and lived so long that it started to buckle under its own weight
the climate of the internet in general is so heated that the playerbase regularly canibalizes itself, though this just happens in every MMO now
take your pick
>tfw if blizzard wasnt so petty and moronic we'd see a collab between WoW and XIV
What's funny is that seemingly every single WoW dev already plays XIV, including Mike Ybarra himself.
Why did this thread immediately turn into XIV vs WoW?
Is XIV the new big mmo these days or something?
Every content update revolved around a raid and maybe a few dungeons if you were lucky. Every content update took longer and longer to put out. The game is ran by people who only raid and don't know what they're doing outside of that.
They focused on convenience and completely removed the WORLD from (W)oW. By the end of Wrath it was a glorified chat room with instanced minigames.
World PVP needed focus rather than removal
Dungeon finder and cross-server teleport Battlegrounds were entirely against the entire point of the game and throw into question the wisdom of allowing any instanced content in the first place
Flying mounts were pure suicide and anyone approving the idea must have been insane
Starting with an entire world but at a tiny scale was an awful idea and they should have had only a few zones at launch but at the same size of what we got, given a bigger scale and then gradually filled out a vast world. This may seem like a small issue of a minor element, being scale; however, the mission to slowly build a vast world would have given the team purpose that would have distracted them from the vacant dopamine treadmill the game became. Hindsight is 20/20 though and we can't find much fault in them for not thinking years ahead like this when even launching the game was an ambitious and far off point at the start of development
>they should have had only a few zones at launch but at the same size of what we got, given a bigger scale and then gradually filled out a vast world
They initially tried that and it didn't work out
It took 15 years but players eventually learned to minmax and optimize the fun out of the game. Allowing datamining was a mistake
WoW died with the Lich King. Why would I care about deathwing, especially if he wrecked the world i spent the best years of my life in?
>t. had 300 days of /play between vanilla and the release of BC
wrath was shit.
Ironforge is so cozy
>cata left the world broken for longer than the original world
It's a really fricking old game that has lived way past its life expectancy. WoW has joined the ranks of boomer MMOs, say your prayers and go live out your remaining days on private servers like the rest of them.
dont play wow anymore but i miss the music a lot
It was a FOTD game
when tbc started pushing emblem farming, smaller group sizes for all content, and difficulty modes.
big true
i miss 40 man zerg rushes and stupid fricking huge world boss lag fests
giant laggy clusterfricks is peak mmo kino content
I wish there was a vanilla server that perpetually resets after 2 months so I could keep playing the launch of a new server forever.
Remember when you needed months to reach cap and the game was largely about the journey?
That was more than 10 years ago. We've been able to reach max lvl in a day since MoP
A huge amount of mistakes surrounding cata and attempting to recover from it. I actually really liked cata but they just couldn’t get over the fumble and it got worse and worse. One should note that the initial huge population was because the game was practically an early social media, and the population was already stagnating in wrath with the rise of the normienet.
>casual players panned the loss of old content and found no new continent to be lazy
>ridiculous stat creep even while they only gave 5 new levels to apparently avoid ridiculous stat creep
>extremely hard pve locked casuals out of the most basic dungeons
>old story characters replaced by new ones
It all hit like a bucket of ice water. They scrapped the xpac, nerfed it into the ground, capped it off with the easiest raid the game would ever see. Then they tried to pander to the chinese market with china which was pretty dumb and the remaining player base found it silly and the population got decimated again. They tried to go back to appealing to western audiences and their fanbase with draenor but by then they were stuck with the shitty evil garrosh storyline that nobody liked. Legion was a good attempt to get back on track but by then half the games lifetime and legacy was tainted by failure and it was too late. There are many lines in the game hinting at the writers cognizance and remorse about it all going wrong and how if they just stuck to their guns instead of panicking for years it could have been better. Anyway now we are in clown world and you know all about that.
all the money and the talent and the best they could come up with is expansion after expansion that is completely disconnected.
>start character
>bullshit for 50 levels
>congrats on leveling up those skiddlywinks! (time gated btw hehe)
>eventually you figure you're actually doing the old content that doesn't matter lol
>level up useless gayballs for new expansion in a tiny area
>wait for new content
and not to mention
>oh boy I can't wait to run some dungeons and raids!
>dungeons are full of fat as fat morons who expect you to also have 9000 hours running that one dungeon like they do
>oops you pulled ONE FRICKING TRASH MOB? KICK KICK KICK
>I'll try raiding
>raid "leaders" always women or sois
>no fricking tips on what you're supposed to do
>OHHHH WHY DIDNT YOU SHIT ON THE THIRD SYMBOL OF TALOS INSTEAD OF PISSING ON ITT!@?!?!? AAAA KICK KCIK KCIK
>expected to just read guide after guide on the exact precise any% speedrun method
yeah idk why this game is dying
top 100 mage on thrall btw, when its fun its pretty fun but its not fun often enough. and everything now is built on top of trash. I still play pservs every now and then.
this
the community is so hostile towards new players its unreal that the game incentivizes it as well by adding even more difficulties and making you run damage sponge dungeons on a timer
Focused on hardcore raiders and whales instead of the casual players.
not even casuals, the average player (bulk of the playerbase) was also ignored
The bulk of the playerbase IS (or were) casuals. People who play maybe 3 hours a week plus did normal with their guild, those that grinded for 1-2 mounts they liked and so on.
>why did WoW "die"?
Whats wrong with having black characters in wow? Thats not SJW you fricking israelite.
Where do they come from in the lore?
don't ask questions just get excited for the new expansion! it will fix everything! that will be $60 + subscription tip please.
Developers incompetency and greed creating and fostering a broken environment where the only way to enjoy and play the game "correctly" means becoming an antisocial sperg, minmaxing the fun out of WoW while treating it like a second job where you sell carries for gold which translates to real life currency. World first raiders need to borrow gold worth tens of thousands of dollars to compete. Everything about this game and its community leaves me with a sour taste in my mouth.
The community thought they knew what was best. Devs hired from the community. Community/Nu Devs made the game worse.
Then everyone left so now no one working on WoW actually plays the game
is there a cure for MMO derangement syndrome?
Maybe, but first we have to know what MMO derangement syndrome is.
Dungeon finder. It destroyed any sense of community or consequences for bad behavior which turned the game into a toxic shithole pretty much overnight.
No point being polite and respectful to the people you're running a dungeon with when you don't have to care about being invited back or getting a bad rep on your server.
Dungeon runs went from fun experiences where you could meet and chat with people to speedruns with zero communication (except for flaming if someone didn't do it the "proper" way).
someone didnt queue up for cata heroics
I dropped the game after LK because it was shit.
Nothing i've seen or heard made me regret that decision.
understandable LK was dogshit on every front
>b-but those 3 months of Ulduar made the rest of the shit not stink!
>ulduar
massively overrated and more than half of the bosses are worse than the first tier's copy pasted bosses
>flame leviathan
funny how the best fight was the most hated
>dragon
dungeon bosses were more interesting than this glorified trash fight
>smelter golem
had some mechanics but I still dont know what any of them do aside form summoning adds that do frick all
>robot
has the worst mechanic known to dpsissies - forced to stop doing damage
>assembly
was cool but nothing unique
>arms guy
another dungeon boss
>cat whrore
target dummy
>ice
its cancer to reach him but kind of funny to watch morons die because they dont know what to do. still a dungoen tier boss
>lighting
do you want to be in the group that kills trash or the group that kills trash while running?
>nature
more trash then a target dummy
>mimiron
one of the few fights that hold up to this day and it blew my mind when I realized that he is going to merge. also the train ride was cool
>vezax
dungeon boss
>yogg
even more trash. 0 lights doesnt count because it was overtuned
>algalon
great fight but on a time limit because frick you
Spot on but I disagree with icy boss and vezzax. Not mimiron-tier but still great moron filters. Leviathan was truly a best fight, but getting to him plowing through billion of trash was pure cnb torture.
I remember those started out quite challenging and then they nerfed them all back to mindlessly easy mode because of the hordes of whining casuals.
Pandering too hard to trannies and SJWs
It's funny, because we might just see Tortanic outlive WoW at this rate.
wasnt the next expansion going to kill tor for good? what happened to that? eso also has similar doomposting because zos is changing some core game elements
All that really happened was a small scale expansion that finally allowed people to change class based on alignment and choose any class when creating the character while they restructured the talents tree into something less bloated and with somewhat more meaningful choices like Sorcerer/Seer now having more AOE or Single Target options regardless of spec for example. It was pretty buggy cause the game is over a decade old and runs on the Hero Engine, but nothing majorly bad happened with it and I didn't see anyone posting anything about troons and globohomosexual in the expansion, so either they just keep doing what they're doing, or there are too few people to give a shit anymore.
Everything else in the expansion was just restructuring some older shit into something more streamlined. Dunno if they went back on Flashpoints being on rotation though.
>You remember when people said TBC killed WoW on forums
>You remember when WOTLK killed WoW on the forums
>You remember when Cata killed WoW on the forums
>You remember when Mists killed WoW on the forums.
WoW has been "killed" so many times, it is becoming a joke to say this word. I really fricking cringe now when people say this.
The WoW of today is a rotting corpse compared to what it once was. It was a creeping death though, which is why people have different opinions on what exactly gave "their" WoW the death blow.
It's really fricking cringe now when dumbass zoomies don't get this.
nah its obvious some aspects kept improving over time and at various points various aspects started to become worse
So when did it objectively "get killed". Because i think TBC killed it. Made it too mainstream and shitters like you joined.
the shitters and normalgays joined in wrath
No it was TBC. It had shiters like you join.
>Inb4 i was raiding naxx 40
All shitters say that and think it is the defelction for their shitter behavior.
another coping wrathbaby
>He thinks calling me a """"wrathbaby"""" means anything coming from a shitter like him.
The truth hurts shitter. TBC killed WoW you were just maggot that was eating its corpse.
sub numbers say otherwise
>Subs now mean something now the shitter is losing his shit.
>im totally not a shitter guys I can press shadowbolt and uhh shadowbolt again
keep coping
>The shitter is still sperging out because i rightly called his dumb ass out.
🙂
>:)
you mad
>The shitter is still sperging out.
Look man i am sorry but TBC killed WoW, it is an objective fact.
Sub numbers drastically slowed in TBC and almost plateaued before Wrath released.
>too mainstream
moron take. WoW was mainstream long before TBC released.
>Killing fun with each patch
>Adding things people didn't ask for
>Not adding things people ask for for ages
>Community discord between the new and the old, the casual and hardcore
>Progressively moronic stories and character developments that end up with character assassinations (Kael being the peak of the iceberg)
>The store...THAT IS ALL
Am I missing something?
back in the days wow threads were banned on Ganker because wow is a casual normie game and multiple mmorpg were better.
Now it's dead because the casual normies are all playing different shit.
The design for the end game after classic was basically designed for a Lobby based game without being a lobby based game. They could simply do away with the overworld and let you create a lobby for raids/pvp and the game would be mostly the same. In fact it might even be better than the current modern version because they would stop wasting time on a part of the game that clearly don't care about.
new world mogs it
The gameplay was never actually that good, and the social aspect was replaced by social media and discord.
There wasn't really anything better for it's time but even back in vanilla there was all sorts of balance and technical issues. I remember the biggest challenge of raiding Molten Core being the servers lagging and crashing.
On top of everything else, data mining killed any mystery or challenge the game had.
Why so hard for people to move on? You had fun virtually now it's time to go outside and have fun for real.
if anything there is even less fun to be had outside now than when wow was still gaining popularity
Troons
Vanilla was a project made by nerds for nerds. Gaming as a whole was different back then, But with each new expansion they made more and more "Optimal" design decisions. WoW literally lost its soul. It's the most fun and engaging on paper, but it feels like it was designed by algorythm. Oh, and the story is a barely coherrent shit that made me completely lose interest in the universe. I thought it was shit by Cata, and now it's not even story anymore, just badly written fanfiction.
I'm no FFIX cultist, but i can't explain why i find it much more fun other than aforemntioned "Soul" argument. It has shitty graphics, world is drab and disconnected, quests are simple and boring, classes feel samey, there are almost no fun mechincs like shapeshifting or totems, every dps is basically the same. The only objectively better thing is the story. But, for some reason, i prefer it. It feels creative, while WoW feels like a product, albeit a better one on paper.
Wow story shit the bed as soon as we killed the LK's top general and managed to lost his phylactery and then fricked off to chase Illidan in Outland instead of going all in on Northrend now that Arthas is at a disadvantage and has already started moving against us.
Imagine Russia kicking the Germans out then declaring war on the Allies for some reason instead of marching to Berlin
Time kills things.
Pandas
ironically MoP was one of the expansions that were more fun and is often shilled as the last good expansion
All of Blizzard's actual talent left the company + Activision gutted them like a fish to make them monetize the hell out of WoW.
The devs only care about pushing their agenda, and not making a fun game.
While the suits don't give a shit as long as the money and MAUs keep rolling in.
Giving Horde Paladins and Alliance Shamans in TBC was a mistake. Faction identity and divide was the main selling point of vanilla WoW and removing the unique classes and having a shared hub changed everything for the worse.
I think adding Belves was the worst mistake. All the 0 IQ morons went to Horde and flooded the game due to shitty stickfigure bimbos, and Blizzard catered to Horde ever since, continously dragging the game and community down year by year.
In the end, Horde really was the cancer that killed WoW.
Frick you it was cool seeing some gay from the enemy faction that you remember from bgs and Shattrath is still the best neutral city to this day
TBC did however ruin pvp both world and instanced by introducing arena bullshit and shifting the focus from big battles and WAR to some 3v3 skirmishes because 2s are for cucks and 5s suck
>it was cool seeing some gay from the enemy faction that you remember from bgs
Much cooler when you see them outside a dungeon or raid, not being AFK in a city. In vanilla the players from the other faction were strangers to a much larger degree because you saw them less often than your own guys
All the making-of material of the original wow makes it clear that the passion and drive of the devs stemmed from "We want to make our dream mmorpg". Not only are all of those people long gone from the decision making process, the pervasive attitude among the developers today is to simply makes "systems" that maximises player retention, the desire to create an adventure you can share with massive amounts of people is not even part of the equation. Having a bottom line or a creative vision isn't just corporate team building bullshit. It's really hard to care about wow when it's so obvious nobody that works on it today cares.
