not to mention you physically cannot do any of this without sitting through hours of mandatory story cutscenes because everything is locked behind MSQ progression. you dont have a choice of what to do in FFXIV, its a singleplayer game where nothing unlocks until you "get to it" in the story. all of the other players in the world are never mentioned and dont canonically exist- you are the only person doing anything and the 4000 people standing in a Stormblood or Endwalker area dont exist to someone who hasnt finished ARR

the game is shit. if i ask you to crack 90 eggs every time you progress a little bit just to unlock a single activity to do, the entire game is going to sound like a massive fricking pain in the ass. killing groups of 3 enemies as you walk up a hill for 15 minutes before triggering a 5 minute cutscene of a dragon telling you they dont trust you then you having to go and tell your leaders about it is a shit game. repeat this setup for the 250hrs it takes someone to get to Eureka at the earliest and you have nothign to argue with about why someone wouldnt want to do that to experience everything the game has to offer

Content feels too locked away behind the MSQ. If you start the game in Limsa you can't even get to the other 2 city states unless you progress the MSQ despite the fact that a Ferry does exist to take you from Limsa to Vesper Bay

Not OP but the most daunting task is gathering with MIN/BTN. FSH is doable without much problems within a month and the crafter can now be macroed. You literally just need enough gil to buy the materials and crystals needed for the senseless grind

Finished endwalker, maxed all my jobs and crafts, made some gil got a fc house then spent a few months just doing the log in chores to hang out with my friends but it got real stale. XIV was a good time for a year, but it can never fill the hole in my heart left from XI.
I accomplished far less in XI than what I have in XIV and it's still just nothing in comparison.
I miss exploring in places like Zi'Tah where I had a very real chance of dying at max level for the chance to get a rare item or material; I will never forget exploring Ro'Maeve SOLO to get that moon key.
Or my own personal farming method, clearing out Delkfutt's Tower bottom to top solo. Pallas and his buddies could drop some rare items that sold very well.
Just that feeling of the world unfolding before you at your own pace. I miss that like nothing else. Yeah there were loading screens but they existed as places. There were no instanced dungeons.

I played FFXIV from 2.0 through to the end of Stormblood content and while it was ridiculously fun at first (thanks to playing with friends from other MMOs), it couldn't fill the void that XI could. It just didn't feel as magical and I'd have probably quit at Heavensward if it weren't for friends playing. I also got a 3 day ban for calling someone a troony and this was around 7 years ago before the LGBTQ movement was on maximum overdrive on the Internet, that really opened my eyes and made me realise I probably won't ever make good honest friends who I can be myself with in an MMO ever again
Not much content I'm interested in. Much worse though, is that fact that so many jobs are playing so similar to each other now it feels like theres no variety at all. I can't live on BLM alone.
Endwalker story rushed what should have been two more expansions worth of the main quest and left it all on a sour note. They then made that sour taste even worse by producing some of the worst post .0 quests and characters the game has seen.

is this game worth playing after msq? i'm making my way through stormblood but have a bad feeling that once this is all done i'm probably not going to enjoy the actual game, since i haven't really managed to so far. if it's more of the same of what i already have access to then maybe i shouldn't waste time..
I'm going to stop playing once I finish MSQ + all dungeons, extremes and savage and ultimate raids. Solo clear all deep dungeons and do the eureka and bozja bosses. That's at least a couple years worth of content for me to get through since I'm still in stormblood.
After 3.2k hours and playing it almost daily the past 1.5 years, I've hit my limit and no self-imposed grind or achievement is fun enough at this point. The game is starting to feel like a chore which is my sign to take a break. I don't think anything in the current patch will interest me enough either, which is good for me since I haven't taken a big break since I started playing the game last year.
I do still like to log in on Tuesdays to do some weeklies and capping tomestones, but even that is starting to lose it's luster.
Played it to death and then took a break. Wanted to come back for latest patch, but my internet connection is so bad in my current residence that I can't play more than 5 minutes at a time. I'll pick it up after I move again, some time around next patch most likely.
I couldn't get past ARR postgame without actually falling asleep at my desk. I can't play MMOs anymore. I'd rather play good games like Final Fantasy 5, Final Fantasy 9, or Final Fantasy 10 than ever touch this game again.
Finished the story after Endwalker. Saved the world for real this time and now my character is fricking Alisaie in perpetuity until I feel like returning. Have no interest starting the void storyline just yet.

Probably too many people b***hing on the official forums about being forced to do certain content they don't want to (Eureka/Bozja) in order to upgrade the relic, so now you can do any content you want for tomestones. It never was an adventure, friends left, saved the world so it was time. Playing everyday for 8 years and suddenly stopping was a damn whiplash since my entire schedule was structured around playing it.
The MSQ that everyone seems to be all hyped about is pure single player virtual novel experience without any sort of choice.
The game literally won't let you level with friends unless it's a dungeon.
The world is absolutely soulless, just random zones connected by loading screens, which btw take a nose dive after ARR.
Raids and Trials are just as soulles - get ported in front of a boss on a perfectly square or round platform floating in the sky.
Alliance raids are just as pointless, only there are multiple bosses with a pack of trash or a miniboss between them. But nothing new or interesting.
The ever present lag makes everything just suck even more.
PvP feels like it's there because other mmos do it, but with how it completely replaces all your skills so your job plays nothing like it does anywhere else, plus the lag, it feels extremely unfun.
Crafting looks interesting at first, but then you find out everyone just presses a macro button that some autist calculated is the best way to do it and posted on the internet. And you can buy anything crafted on the market board, so why even bother.
Bard performance suffers from the same, if not worse, just download an automatic key presser and hit play. At least you can mute that now, so I don't have to heard the cacophony every time I visit Limsa or Gridania.
It then all comes down to just collecting shit - glam or your house. Or go full moron with the mods and just do the cringy - as they call it, "rolelplay" - with the far gone degens.
Why have they literally NEVER made a weapon for tanks with the same yellow glow as the Eureka elemental gear, or a weapon for DRG/RPR with the same turquoise glow as theirs?

in interviews he always implies there's some budget constraints whenever content is planned
for example its why we also never get more than one dungeon per patch
because it is generally assumed having to code and debug the trust system is eating that part of the budget
for much of endwalker's post-patch we've had the devs update the MSQ dungeon experience into duty support with trusts, thats a frick-ton of resources used, probably equivalent to making delubrum/dalriada
here is hoping that once they're done they can now re-allocate into other stuff
don't forget they run FFXI under the same roof with one (1) singular person handling the entire game that has anywhere from 80-100k+ subs, with a sub fee that's significantly more expensive than XIV

I don't think it's their faith as much as it is that Yoshida has a tight hold on the reigns and would very much rather starve the game out than beg the corps for more money. It's the Fromsoft issue of making mediocrity and everyone praising you for it, so why do any more than that?

I just started as a little Gladiator. Just finished dinner, and waiting for maintenance to finish in 10-15 minutes. I played before in 2015 but got filtered by post-ARR and IRL BS.
I find farming tomestones to be extremely boring, I hate the usual dungeon grind, after some time of playing dungeons really start to feel boring since its the same shit over and over and people dont even talk anymore in a MMO.
Is this a only me problem? or does FFXIV feels a lot more cold than other MMOs despite what the community says? its rare to get a conversation going nowadays
Do they? In my experience all of those get shuffled off to discord. At least in the FCs I've joined. The only chat I see on a regular basis in-game is limsa idlers, hunt trains, or nightclub advertising shout chats.
Doesn't help that the dungeons are only cool the first couple of times through but you'll probably run them hundreds of times. Even brand new ones suffer this fate because the roulette is just a coin flip that has only the two most recent while others get shuffled out into a separate, less valuable roulette. Also dungeon gear is largely pointless aside from glams so people are really only ever running them for story progress or tomes with most being tome runners. They just want in and out as fast as possible. Chatting slows that down too much.
Expert roulette and 90 roulette should just be 1 thing. When expert was first added to the game the only two fricking dungeons you could get were Qarn hard and Snowcloak. I remember that shit from 9 years ago because of how fricking miserable it was and its been the standard format ever since
I played from the start of the rerelease. I finished all of the content and then it was grinding one single dungeon. I did that for about a month and dropped it because what a waste of time.

BA specifically is a bad example, as there's organized runs all the time, but DRS is impossible to find a group to do it with, mostly because there's basically no purpose to doing it nowadays. the drops are trash.

hell no frick off, there should be grinds in the game outside of current content. that's what keeps it fresh and why eureka is still incredibly active.
Eureka is active because it has actual GOOD rewards. Four mounts, Easy access to gil making, glams that don't look like shit, and its REQUIRED to make the relic weapon for that expansion. You can do 90% of SHB relic in other content, which to me completely defeats the purpose of having Bozja at all.
My complaint is that fricking shitters flood up the fun content that has no reward, and makes for a frustrating experience

Also I had played it so much that it started to qualify as psychological torture to keep playing it. Perfect timing really. As the pink haired lady had just taken over locilazation and changed beast tribes to tribal quests. A terrible sign of things to come. My legacy account is for sale if anyone is interested. I'm done. Never going back.

cruise chaser was added at the ass end of shadowbringers when all of the wowbucks were flooding the game, it was pure greed and not to recoup losses for anything. they saw a ton of new players joining and scrapped w/e they originally had planned for the mount and threw it on the shop

Not really. In eureka the primary way to level is to grind enemies and occasionally do fates (notorious monsters) that pop wjile in Bozja it’s reverse but doing fates is the basis of both of them.

They didn't look to add any way to work around it so that means it'll be the same for any trial in the future requiring heavy mit or LB.
You can do it alone, just use ice + ultravibration and pull 5-6 mobs at a time. Use tank stance and mighty guard too. Then get into unsync sastasha and back out to reset the ultravibration timer. Repeat 4-5 times per level. Better if you use an exp roll from GC or FC buff

There is a difference between "content" and "chores", that is all I will say.
not to mention you physically cannot do any of this without sitting through hours of mandatory story cutscenes because everything is locked behind MSQ progression. you dont have a choice of what to do in FFXIV, its a singleplayer game where nothing unlocks until you "get to it" in the story. all of the other players in the world are never mentioned and dont canonically exist- you are the only person doing anything and the 4000 people standing in a Stormblood or Endwalker area dont exist to someone who hasnt finished ARR

Its the gathering and crafter grind in the diadem, around 800 hours if done efficiently
Not OP but the most daunting task is gathering with MIN/BTN. FSH is doable without much problems within a month and the crafter can now be macroed. You literally just need enough gil to buy the materials and crystals needed for the senseless grind
although the crafting shit is all expert crafts and the macro only gets you the lowest quality possible to turn in which makes the grind 100x as long
That's only going to affect the money you spend, not much of your time. Just afk craft with a macro program or a plugin and you are done in a day

Finished endwalker, maxed all my jobs and crafts, made some gil got a fc house then spent a few months just doing the log in chores to hang out with my friends but it got real stale. XIV was a good time for a year, but it can never fill the hole in my heart left from XI.

I miss exploring in places like Zi'Tah where I had a very real chance of dying at max level for the chance to get a rare item or material; I will never forget exploring Ro'Maeve SOLO to get that moon key.
Or my own personal farming method, clearing out Delkfutt's Tower bottom to top solo. Pallas and his buddies could drop some rare items that sold very well.

After 3.2k hours and playing it almost daily the past 1.5 years, I've hit my limit and no self-imposed grind or achievement is fun enough at this point. The game is starting to feel like a chore which is my sign to take a break. I don't think anything in the current patch will interest me enough either, which is good for me since I haven't taken a big break since I started playing the game last year.
I do still like to log in on Tuesdays to do some weeklies and capping tomestones, but even that is starting to lose it's luster.
Played it to death and then took a break. Wanted to come back for latest patch, but my internet connection is so bad in my current residence that I can't play more than 5 minutes at a time. I'll pick it up after I move again, some time around next patch most likely.

The MSQ that everyone seems to be all hyped about is pure single player virtual novel experience without any sort of choice.
The game literally won't let you level with friends unless it's a dungeon.
The world is absolutely soulless, just random zones connected by loading screens, which btw take a nose dive after ARR.
Raids and Trials are just as soulles - get ported in front of a boss on a perfectly square or round platform floating in the sky.
Alliance raids are just as pointless, only there are multiple bosses with a pack of trash or a miniboss between them. But nothing new or interesting.
The ever present lag makes everything just suck even more.
PvP feels like it's there because other mmos do it, but with how it completely replaces all your skills so your job plays nothing like it does anywhere else, plus the lag, it feels extremely unfun.
Crafting looks interesting at first, but then you find out everyone just presses a macro button that some autist calculated is the best way to do it and posted on the internet. And you can buy anything crafted on the market board, so why even bother.
Bard performance suffers from the same, if not worse, just download an automatic key presser and hit play. At least you can mute that now, so I don't have to heard the cacophony every time I visit Limsa or Gridania.
It then all comes down to just collecting shit - glam or your house. Or go full moron with the mods and just do the cringy - as they call it, "rolelplay" - with the far gone degens.
They should just delete BLU and make it a generic caster at this point.

I find farming tomestones to be extremely boring, I hate the usual dungeon grind, after some time of playing dungeons really start to feel boring since its the same shit over and over and people dont even talk anymore in a MMO.

I tried things in Limsa and in FCs but people just didn't seem to care to make new friends
Doesn't help that the dungeons are only cool the first couple of times through but you'll probably run them hundreds of times. Even brand new ones suffer this fate because the roulette is just a coin flip that has only the two most recent while others get shuffled out into a separate, less valuable roulette. Also dungeon gear is largely pointless aside from glams so people are really only ever running them for story progress or tomes with most being tome runners. They just want in and out as fast as possible. Chatting slows that down too much.
Expert roulette and 90 roulette should just be 1 thing. When expert was first added to the game the only two fricking dungeons you could get were Qarn hard and Snowcloak. I remember that shit from 9 years ago because of how fricking miserable it was and its been the standard format ever since
I played from the start of the rerelease. I finished all of the content and then it was grinding one single dungeon. I did that for about a month and dropped it because what a waste of time.

BA specifically is a bad example, as there's organized runs all the time, but DRS is impossible to find a group to do it with, mostly because there's basically no purpose to doing it nowadays. the drops are trash.

Eureka is active because it has actual GOOD rewards. Four mounts, Easy access to gil making, glams that don't look like shit, and its REQUIRED to make the relic weapon for that expansion. You can do 90% of SHB relic in other content, which to me completely defeats the purpose of having Bozja at all.
My complaint is that fricking shitters flood up the fun content that has no reward, and makes for a frustrating experience

I cleared all three ultimates that were out in SHB with my midcore ass static but the one thing that actually made it enjoyable to play with them was all the side stuff we were doing like Bozja. Im not gonna pay a sub just to raidlog 3 days a week because there's literally frickall to do this expansion outside of being a raidtroony.

I'm a long time player (2.0 beta). Endwalker is my favorite expansion content wise. Heavensward was the worst content wise.
The patches have felt like the gap between 3.0 and 3.2 except for the entire run instead of turning around like the Heavensward patches did.

Not really. In eureka the primary way to level is to grind enemies and occasionally do fates (notorious monsters) that pop wjile in Bozja it’s reverse but doing fates is the basis of both of them.
eureka is just easier to progress through by yourself since there's a pretty strong echo in there

that's what they've put 80% of dev time into for the past 4 years. They're even doing it to fricking trials now. I'm sure raids will be up on the platter next. By the end of 7.0 all non harder difficulty content will be made soloable with trusts so they can eventually wind it down.

Not him but the only one so far, all of their EW dev time has been put into remaking old earlier MSQ content to be single player and thats the route they want to go since the new players replacing the existing old players love it. They're going to continue doing more in 7.0.

You can do it alone, just use ice + ultravibration and pull 5-6 mobs at a time. Use tank stance and mighty guard too. Then get into unsync sastasha and back out to reset the ultravibration timer. Repeat 4-5 times per level. Better if you use an exp roll from GC or FC buff
