Depends on the location. Liurnia was nice for sure. Can't say that for altus plateau and 20 copy and pasted catacomb areas.

The open world was better than most open worlds by actually being sectioned off and requiring the player to find out how to progress from one open world space to another, and having one part be harder than another whilst being able to do it at almost any time. as opposed to "true open world" games where you can go to any space at any time without issue and every space is the same difficulty with procedural rewards scaled to the player.

I never understood why the story in Fromsoft games is so praised, the method of putting it in descriptions and leaving you to figure it out is cool, but the stories themselves are very simplistic and characters are a collection of tropes. The only fun part of it is piecing it together and arguing in the threads about the theories you have, but for every 1 person who does it there's 99 who just watch video essay homosexuals (that also present barely supported fan theories in the same breath as undeniable facts)
