    Simple.
    >plan is for the Pokemon franchise to end with Gen 2
    >have Ash lose the Gen 1 League so he can get his redemption in the series finale after going through Johto
    >Pokemon turns into a massive success
    >plans change, not ending in Gen 2 anymore
    >already started production on the Ash in Johto season
    >too late to go back now

Except Gen2 was never meant to be the last. More likely they didn’t have anything specific planned for what would be next while Gen2 was always intended to happen.

        >plan is for the Pokemon franchise to end with Gen 2
        Stop posting mistranslations as facts

it's a Johtotoddler cope, makes them think their region is more special by actually believing it's supposed to be the last one

This isn't Digimon where you get a new bunch of randos to love per adventure arc.

Because no one replaces Satoshi Tajiri's self-insert until he gets forced out due to him getting butchered beyond belief.

    Jimmy should’ve replaced Ash
The Pokemon Rangers should have replaced Ash
Team Go-Getters should have replaced Ash
Now all we have is Liko

    >the original plan was for the show to last a year and a half
    >it eventually got extended to indefinite runner
    >most of the planned plot for the original year-and-a-half run was kept, so the Kanto arc ended a year and a half in, though probably with some differences in the last few episodes to account for the fact that they were no longer the series finale
    >the new gen 2 games wouldn't be out for a while so the characters had to faff around in a made-up-for-the-anime filler region to stall until the games got released so the Johto arc could start the week the Johto games got released (a last second delay resulted in the Johto arc actually starting a month earlier, but that was just because there was no time to make 4 new filler episodes at that point)
Running a lengthy filler arc to stall until the release of the new games, only to then retire and replace the protagonist, would've been pretty moronic.

Keeping Ash when the writers clearly had no idea what do with him after the Orange League is arguably even more moron, especially since the Orange League had ended with Ash regaining his dignity after the absolute shitshow of the Indigo League, meanwhile the Johto was was bloated with filler becuase once gain the writers didn't know what to do with Ash, and his character went on a downward spiral from Johto onward to the point where he wasn't even the same character by the time series finally ended.

The entire reason the Orange league existed in the first place was so Ash would have something to do while the writers were waiting for the next games to come out so they could send him off on an adaptation of those.

Typhlosion simply lacks the charisma and design quality that Charizard possessed. Jimmy can have loads of potential, but its all for nothing when he's attached to that "thing"

Then give him Totodile. Or rather start with Marill and then get Hoothoot, Feraligatr, Bayleef, Cyndaquil, Heracross.

This but unironically both typhlosion and charizard suck ass but at least charizard is a dragon and not a lame animal with fire slapped on it
