Nothing about the original Sonic is cool, you only think it's cool because of the impression you got from the marketing

they tried while simultaneously not releasing the biggest games on the console which was a bold strategy but didn't pay off. it went on to influence the bold wii u strategy decades later which nintendo seems to be happy with because it's still their newest home console.

you're mad if you think nights has the mass appeal needed to sell a console

Nights sucks and is boring. They should've made Sonic game.

It really is pretty shit I even tried crystal nights and thought it would be great but the resolution makes it like peering through a midgets butthole like, isn't this game supposed to be about visuals?

Black person have you SEEN american saturn commercials? They held onto the Sega scream right up until they killed Saturn in 1998. It was weird that they didn't have Sonic, but Sega tried to be in-you-face edgy cool and people got tired of it.

I think it got really poor distribution most most areas. Like honestly, I barely saw that thing as a kind but that's probably because nobody really know what the frick it was. It had the Sega CD and the 32x right next to it and they all looked very similar.

Basically, there's Sega's pile of whatever and discs and crap, and everyone else actually doing something. It was perception and they blew it.

I had it. The main problem was Playstation was cheaper (which I got later on). They also fricked up putting out so much hardware before.

They should have pushed near perfect Capcom arcade ports on it to start. The garbage they had created wasn't getting anyone's attention.

yeah dude less home gaming is what the saturn needed to succeed

Guardian Heroes was fine and they could have done more than an episode of that.

By the mid 90s the average consumer didn't give two shits about arcade quality sprite animations at home, they wanted 3D.

i remember Nights being less addictive than Sonic but the thing was quite the experience. and omg the contoller. Nights Chistmas was also a nice bonus.

What is with these constant Saturn threads? I noticed they are also being posted a little too much on Ganker as well. I get Sega has a lot of fans but this recent Saturn posting has been far above normal levels for a console that failed and wasn't getting nearly this much attention in all these years since its failure like it has been lately. Is there something I am missing that has happened recently? Are people hoping for a mini or something?

To answer your question OP its kind of pointless to even speculate or give what if scenarios since SOJ and SOA were so at odds with one another from what we are told on the history of Sega in the 90's. With this kind of internal conflict within their own company it could be argued just about nothing they did would have worked when the company itself was such a train wreck. I had a Saturn and sometimes still wish I had one but I never had too much games for it and its because it just wasn't marketed or pushed as well at all. It could not compete with PS1 or N64 in my eyes in terms of excitement. It probably should have did something far different from those two consoles to stand out but again like I said, all this speculation of what could have been is pointless since the company was and even still is a mess.

There's only two real reasons why it tanked
    >PS1 was cheaper
    >The American launch was handled extremely poorly and made both retailers and game journalists turn their backs on the console

    >Hey lets go to yours and play Nights!
The Nights mascot is gay and no kids would ever want to play it.

Sonic might have been uncool, and lame, and borderline gay... But nights on the other hand was beyond gay. Saturn never stood a chance

The thing was barely marketed since the surprise launch caught everyone off guard. And at the end of the day, it just didn’t have games anyone was interested in playing.

Bro... they even had Ice Cube advertising the Saturn. It was edge to the extreme and even I got hypnotized by it but that all came to an end when my parents got me a PS1 instead for christmas. They made the right choice for me.

Why are you Sega fanboys like this? Just let it go already. I love the mega drive but everything else sucked. Just accept it and move on.
