Why didn't you guys tell me that late 90's/early 00's PC games were the cure for video game burnout? I've been playing Stronghold HD, Zeus: Master of Olympus, Star Wars: Dark Forces, and Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall and I've been having an absolute blast all week long. There's no bullshit I have to worry about from the developers or the community, this is great.
Post some old-school games you've been enjoying recently, I need some recommendations.

Emperor is the best of the classic city builders imo, since it's got the most QoL improvements while still having some challenge. It's never as obnoxious as Pharoh, while also being less simple than Zeus.
Ceasar 3: Augustus Mod > Emperor > Ceasar 3 > Zeus > Pharoh
Imo.
I got Zeus over the others because I like Greek stuff more than the others. (I still can't find a way to make it run in 1920x1080 though)
The level designs in it are kino
except for that fricking sewer level. that fat frick hiding the sewers behind 8 switches can gargle my ass
>Dark Forces
Based. That game stills holds up
I don't play games made after 2006 unless they are good indie games. Everything is casualized and shit
I kneel.
>one life
>spend it going out of your way pretend to le hardcore gamer who can only enjoy the most difficult games to gain some sense of self-esteem
sad tbqh
>difficult
???
Thanks
I was born in '98 forgive me brother
>old games are good
wow who would have fricking guessed
>Why didn't you guys tell me
Ganker circlejerks over old games all the time. Also there's a dedicated board for old game. I've been playing Might and Magic recently with the merge mod.
I mean, people can tell OP is moronic enough to not know about /vr/
thortoughly enjoyed Blood Omen
then i played some chilhood games i failed to beat
Warcraft 1 and 2, Diablo 1, Populous The Beginning and latest picrel
about try some Dune
Because most of them are absolutely shit in terms of quality and balance
I was like fricking 10 when I started playing Caesar 3 and guess what? Once you figured out the basic strategy of building, all the levels are more or less the same. You just 'customize' the amount of industry you put down.
Population is now double? Guess what, build another block on the other side of the map, map over
Stronghold HD is literally the epitome of 'slow game speed to minimum and play micro with slow movement units because frick the AI'
Never like Star Wars shit. Daggerfall is kino tho
jagged alliance 2 (i'd recommend 1 too but not late 90s)
silent storm
heroes of might and magic 2/3, i'd recommend 4 too even if it's divisive but worth just for ost.
command conquer series up to generals
xcom apocalypse
might and magic 6+7, 8 optional
starcraft,.warcraft 2 (latter not quite late 90s
deus ex
unreal
rogue spear, raven shield, ghost recon 1
infinity engine games (bg 1/2, iwd 1/2, ps:t)
troika games; temple of elemental evil, vtmb, arcanum
fallout 1/2
thief 1/2, maybe 3
arx fatalis
spellforce 1
disciples 1/2
vietcong, mafia: city of lost heaven, hidden dangerous 2
original war
hitman 2
Might and Magic 6-8. If you like Daggerfall you are in for a treat.
I have heard that if you have 8 then you can mod 6 and 7 into 8 and play arcos all 3 games as if it were one, think I'm gonna play it soon!
not that guy, i heard of it though not sure if i'd recommend it for the first playthrough tbh. it converts everything to 8 engine that's made for single PC + recruits while 6/7 is made for 4 PC parties. especially since the games don't have any serious compatibility problems with new systems, even have working windowed mode (besides 16bit color autism sometimes)
It's pretty great.
I would definitely play them separately first, you'll trivialize and ruin a lot of content otherwise. You should just install the unofficial/GrayFace patches and you're good to go.
I did
test
Your test was successful anon 🙂
result: positive
congratulations
Master of Orion 2
So many hours of hotseat moo2
Knights of Honor (barely counts)
Worms Armageddon (still has players!)
Exile series (Avernum on steam, both versions are good)
Gauntlet series (up to Dark Legacy, the newer ones kinda suck)
Ys series
Anno 1602 (can't say whether any of the other ones are good because I've never played them)
Too many adventure games to list (check adventuregamers.com for recommendations)
Love Zeus. I get the itch to play it every couple of years. Also give its expansion, Poseidon, a go. It's doesn't do a lot to change the formula, but the base formula is so good that it doesn't really need changing.
If you like building shit, open RCT2 is good, as is SimCity 3000. If you enjoy management sims, try Airline Tycoon.

Gothic 1 and 2 are also very very good games with a amazingly strong commuinity
You have interactive movie burnout and are now playing games for a change.
