plot itself honestly didn’t seem that interesting to me
purely on a subjective level
i like the game still though
the dlc in the prison was great and made me replay chronicles of riddick
I remember this game being loved when it came out, back beforeGanker had gone almost full contrairian. Probably one of the better games to come out that generation.
It's alright. The original is closer to a masterpiece for being much stronger in a lot of ways, and while HR did make improvements in a lot of ways they didn't improve on DX' most important aspects. In some ways, they regressed. I will acknowledge that there was a big publisher-imposed trend at the time to simplify everything for console players, and that they didn't have nearly as much time or budget to develop Human Revolution as the original. Under those restrictions, it coming out as good as it did was a genuine miracle. Except for hacking, frick hacking.
I feel like MD comes closer to the original as far as design goes while still applying a modern coat of paint, but that game has plenty of problems on its own that bring it down. And they really should've dropped all the fricking hacking.
Because its not, for one it has a really bland and generic soundtrack meaning it can't be a "masterpiece", second its way too gimmicky for its own good, overall its not remotely comparable to the original Deus Ex aka an actual masterpiece.
It isn't bland and generic, it is just atmospheric. It's mean to be in the background. It is instantly recognizable but it also isn't memorable which is what they were going for I think.
>Bland and generic soundtrack
Most of it is just background music. It isn't meant to be super exciting and high energy or anything. The only 2 games that I genuinely feel comfortable saying I could recognize the background music from is "pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of sky" and "the elder scrolls Skyrim". Which I've played a lot of both, and they stick out a lot more than others. >It's too gimmicky
Thats a big nothing statement. >Overall not remotely comparable to the original Deus Ex
They're both first person shooter with rpg mechanics, focus heavily on conspiracy, are set in a distopian cyberpunk world, and have you play as a gritty agent type person with cybernetic enhancements of some sort of other.
How do you make a cyberpunk RPG and not have hacking absolutely broken?
The games I've played in the genre, being every Deus Ex, Shadowrun, Starcrawlers, System Shock etc you are absolutely gimping yourself if you do not engage with hacking as a mechanic and will lose out on a massive amount of loot, side objectives, additional lore/messages and whatnot, disabling or hacking security systems and so on. I get that in that setting everything and its mother is controlled by computers so it makes sense but how do you work around a single skill being so crucial that you're kind of forced to use it?
instead of hacking you can find a password written on a sticky note somewhere, or maybe there's a rare item to bypass having to hack a device, maybe if you shock a computer with your stun gun enough it shuts down security, shit like that
But then you run into the issue where the convenience of just pressing HACK COMPUTER outright trumps looking around for the password, I've had this issue a lot with the original Deus Ex.
>really bland and generic soundtrack
kys
I get Icarus is a pretty neat track but the rest of the soundtrack is pretty forgettable though. Even the hengsha hub music.
>it's contrarian to dislike a broken wiiU backport which introduces bugs and broken shaders and fricks up the pacing of the game by forcing you to play missing link
i unironically loved piss-filter.
for some reason it made visuals comfy and atmospheric, but when they removed it in Directors Cut, it became cold and generic.
Good game but I hate the DC and I retroactively hate these devs. >removed the strong aesthetic because it was called piss filter as a bandwagon meme, but it was never a serious complaint, many times just used ironically, let alone game breaking
For MD, a couple years later: >attempted to ass frick the fans with horrible day one DLC >released the game with no proper ending or conclusion. Shit just cuts to black suddenly and you see the credits roll >continued the storyline with the MC from the previous game, while it was established that he was killed and dead as frick, and they did frick-all to acknowledge it
Some people just become moronic when they get a modicum of success and these Black folk are a prime example of that
>continued the storyline with the MC from the previous game, while it was established that he was killed and dead as frick, >and they did frick-all to acknowledge it
Anon you moron
Yeah I don't get it either. The original had such strong art direction and they botched it because of some memes. And they did a half assed job at changing it too because all of the CGI cutscenes are still gold.
Also they showcased early signs of degen behavior. The lead artist liked himself so much that he used his own face as the main character
>continued the storyline with the MC from the previous game, while it was established that he was killed and dead as frick, >and they did frick-all to acknowledge it
Anon you moron
My point still stands; they show this shit and nothing happens. It's a waste of time and effort
It's their fault for making MD about fricking nothing and making a logical sequel to the first game.
MD may as well be its own thing if it wasn't for the remaining 1% that addresses HR.
>they show this shit and nothing happens. It's a waste of time and effort
Gosh a second part of a trilogy having unresolved secrets. Guess we'd better lambast it.
I don't think that, outside of the missions they clearly cut out of the game to sell as DLC, that MD was unfinished at launch. The average time it takes to beat is about the same as the other games, it's just that the pacing is so fricking awful that only real important story beats appear near the beginning and end. During most of the game you're just fricking about in Prague, you only really infiltrate something feeling like a proper base twice (the Switzerland base and the bank), and you don't travel much outside of Prague in general.
>My point still stands; they show this shit and nothing happens. It's a waste of time and effort
Pretty clearly intended as set up for the next game, especially since the prison DLC went harder into the implanted memory shit (and implying Jenson knows something is up).
>they show this shit and nothing happens. It's a waste of time and effort
Gosh a second part of a trilogy having unresolved secrets. Guess we'd better lambast it.
It's not their fault that Squenix cancelled the third game in the trilogy.
San Francisco would've been kino.
There's plenty of fault to go around >pulling a bunch of resources from the DX team to work on Marvel's Avengers instead >not marketing the game- the game had absolutely no hype going into it compared to all the normies who at least knew about the "I never asked for this" meme for HR >the story goes absolutely nowhere and gets bogged down with paper thin "aug racism bad" plot points beating the player over the head for its duration >I know people b***hed about the bosses in HR, but cutting all bosses except the final one, and having that final one be some dumb gorilla that you should have fought back in Golem City was a horrible idea
because the main quest is short and cuts off less than half way, it's not as good as HR's main quest, outside the main hub world the locations aren't as interesting the side quests are the star of the show, and Square used resources to inject a crappy mobile wannabe game inside MD. also Delara.
I still like it, comfy hub world, great atmosphere, music, side quests, better gameplay, but the devs and publisher screwed over what could've been a 10/10 and we'll never see a sequel to it again.
Yeah, MD gets a lot of hate, but if you played it without expecting the story to go past 'Act 1.5' of a global conspiracy plot, it's the second best Deus-Ex game.
Also, there is lots of story content, about as much as HR, it's just that it doesn't really reach a conclusion. It's like a perfect prequel game, whatever was planned to come after would have been absolute top-tier kino. It basically sets everything up so that the sequel could start off at 75mph instead of spending the first 10 hours picking up speed.
I wonder whether they'll finish the jensen saga or start something new. tbh I hope they finish, because it was good.
Well the idea was that the world was set back by the aug incident and going to an old world city was supposed to represent that.
Like the opening takes place in Dubai to heavily contrast waking up in old world Prague.
The only real problem is (once again) the game isn't long enough to properly reintroduce the Cyberpunk cities in the last half.
>DX:HR comes out >Everybody hates the piss filter and it's widely mocked >DX:HR DC comes out >Everybody loves the piss filter and the game is ruined without it
DC removes much more than the piss filter, it downgrades lighting and shaders due to being based on the shitty WiiU port.
I think morons just don't realize this and think the image looks awful just becasue there is no more yellow tint.
>disingenuous muh both sides Black persondom
The people complaining about the filter were histrionic subhuman homosexuals who's argument was "ree I noticed it exists, therefore bad!"
While the people complaining about its removal are pointing out that the art direction of the game is raped since it's all the texture were made grey to work in tandem with the gold filter, which is now gone so the game is grey mush, and the post-processing pipeline was broken so a bunch of other FX are busted too.
These are not equivalent, one side is completely in the right, and the Black folk crying about the pissfilter existing were wrong.
Is IW worth playing? I tried it but had some performance issues and if it's not worth it, I don't want to bother - setting the game up seems like a pain in the ass
It's only worth it for the story. The gameplay is absolute trash, but story wise, it is a direct continuation of DX1 and heavily features JC and Paul. If you're a lore autist like me, it's worth suffering through the horrible gameplay just to see how the story ends. Beyond that, however, it's not worth it.
They went with a combination of the Helios and Tong endings. JC merges with Helios becoming a sort of digital demigod and destroys Area 51, plunging the world into a technological dark age
>No ending >Forced homosexual character >Bad racial apartheid allegory >None of the memorable characters from HR return in a significant way and their replacements aren't as good >It's not a personal story for Jensen
I MD but no.
>Hated the cutscene pause-the-world takedowns in HR >Thought everyone else did too including the devs and is otherwise just a slight blemish on an otherwise incredible game >They kept it in MD so clearly the devs thought it was a good enough idea to keep in
I know it isn't a big deal and but it just really rubs me the wrong way
It's a shitty mobile version of DSHR with its own story based off of the novel.
Kinda feels like one of those PSP games based off of PS2 games, where it's a smaller and flimsier version of the game with a new plotline.
Why do so many here complain about the DC's broken lighting and lack of gold filter when a mod has pretty much fixed this? It's not perfect but close enough I'd say
I said it pretty much fixed it, not completely, you illiterate moron. Whatever it didn't fix is unnoticeable unless you look really closely at comparison shots in certain areas. But that's nitpicking at that point
It doesn't fix shit, moron. The filter is altered dynamically for each level in og HR, while the "fix" for DC can only do the same preset for every level.

I spent a lot of time stacking boxes on top of each other to get to high areas, which was fun as hell

i really liked hr and really don't like md
why
don't say the ending
hr was simpler
md was like an art project, with gameplay coming second
also no toggle aim option in a shooter is heresy
MD looked amazing and had far more to explore in the environment than HR
Also toggle aim is for psychopaths
plot itself honestly didn’t seem that interesting to me
purely on a subjective level

Shame the stuttering has no reliable fix - it works for some and not for others.
What fixes DID you try?
I remember this game being loved when it came out, back beforeGanker had gone almost full contrairian. Probably one of the better games to come out that generation.

>anti-racism
/v/israelites hate games like this
see how they hate MGS2 for the same reason
they want you to play shit like Mario and Zelda because they promote cuckoldery and Pokemon because it promotes zoophilia
I hate MGS2 because the MC I got sucked.
filtered
Black person it's been 12 years since release. If you for whatever reason didn't play this game in 12 years wtf are you even doing on Ganker ?
You never asked us to.
You weren't ready
I'm pretty sure Ganker has never shit on a Deus Ex except Invisible War.
You probably weren't old enough when it came out to have heard it was
Eliza Cassan!
You didnt ask for it.

MD is a psyops by the Illoomeenatee to catch Janus, bratan
>>fake Vega

I know jensen's a clone but sarif and vega are fake? hell, vega is new.
IIRC for Sarif along the new voice his bloodtype is different. Vega isn't new, her first appearance is The Fall.
Vega appeared before, but was blackwashed for MD

It feels like half a game.
But it's a damn good and polished half a game.
So it's hard to get mad at it.
Boomers were bust jerking off to the orinial game and dismiss any sequel or prequel that's why. Deus Ex went to shit because of it's fanbase.

which ending of DE does it run with? I thought Helios was canon, but that kinda kills any sequel potential

Not really. The intro cutscene is cool, NG Resonance is kinda memorable, seeing JC again is neat. Your time is better spent elsewhere.
but muh gold filter
They took it out of the directors cut and the game looks worse for it
MD is better in every possible way, dilate HR sluuts.
Better in some ways, worse in others. Better gameplay, better augs and aug balance, better hub cities. Far worse story.

Alex Denton is just a generic early-2000s whiteboy with gelled hair. No personality.
Other two? There's only JC (1), Alex (2) and Adam (3 and 4) AFAIK. Alex Denton from tbh Sex 2 Indivisble Bore is pretty boring.
That one guy from Deus ex the fall
First time I ever heard of it. Apparently it was a iphone game at first?

Meaning that only a few parts look close to accurate, while most of it is just fricked up in a different way.
Human Revolution perfected the formula from a gameplay point of view, it's a shame the writing was extremely shit
MD is even better
