It's a subversion of narrative cliches in order to question why the hero and the player assume that they cannot be betrayed and must be loved by the heroine of their own story instead of finding inner peace and meaning within oneself or finding love in different person. Oersted is consumed by his betrayal and falls down the path of ashura because of his resulting isolation while Byuu is supported by the connections he forms with nature and society and is able to achieve true freedom from the narrative he is composed into.

Essentially, a genuine life is not a story or a divine plan, it is simply a system or algorithm in which the possibility of life and individuality grows out of, and being neither good or bad it derives it's meaning from your own conceptions of it. Rather than seeing yourself as a hero and seeking out a power fantasy or glorious narrative, you should just be a person and do the best that you can.

It's pretty fun, here you go into a fun game that has multiple gameplay aspect and scenario to it, and finally you go into seemingly the most generic and boring one of them all, and it sike you.
It's the Mushoku Tensei of RPGs, except unlike Mushoku Tensei, it's actually fricking good and fun, not garbo.

You're not supposed to self-insert

I'm pretty sure the game take into account that you will self insert or not.
You self insert, you see a character that you probably named after yourself or someone going into the rabbit hole.
You don't self insert, you see a character that is the Hero archetype going into the rabbit hole.

There is no NTR in Bahamut Lagoon, you never had a proper relationship to begin with and it all culminates in the princess being alone when her true love gets killed for being a dick. While your main character gets an implied future romance option with another party member and lives freely flying around on dragons.

The entire process was carefully designed around the expectation that people will name the girl and boy after themselves and a girl they like. In addition the ending doesn't make sense when a dragon goes right up to Byuu and straight up says to him that she only remembers him as the boy he was.

The reason these plots suck and feel like NTR is because it feels like the girls lead the protagonist on and then happily ditch them for the absolutely most infuriating person possible while rubbing it on their faces and getting angry if questioned about it. What with Alethea falling for and killing herself over the fricking villain who literally got her father killed and ruined Oersted's life, or Yoyo falling for the general keeping her captive while Byuu was working to rescue her which means at any point in the game you could have made a juxtaposition of Byuu suffering over it and Yoyo just getting it on with the enemy.

FF4 is just the girl having two childhood friends who both love her but she only falls for one of them and never makes pretensions otherwise.

Very rarely. Netorare refers to being stolen by sex so the girl is usually the one being “Netorare’d” by that usage but the designated cuck selfinsert character is usually the POV. The cuck is “Netorase”, which some only use for willing cucks (like anyone that actually willingly reads NTR) but isn’t actually limited in that way by definition. Netori is the person doing the “stealing by sex”, but despite what most cucks claim most of the NTR cliche shit people rail against is clearly for cuck selfinserters.
However, at the core you are still mistaken, because “NTR” technically stands for all three of Netorare, Netorase and Netori. You notice that all three contain the “N T R” letters. The difference between NTR and just cheating stories is that NTR by definition focuses on the “stealing” aspect where it isn’t the act of sex itself but rather the destruction, loss and depriving of another. It is pretty fricking gay.

Wait, so why doesn't the cuck just get fricked by the bull and cut the girl out of it if she's not really the focus?

isn't it tragic for the bull to still be metaphysically restrained by the material bondage of the vegana then?

All of them are shit.
>Netorare
You want to get cucked that bad? Pathetic.
>Netorase
Wow, you aren't even going to pretend you don't want this. Zero dignity.
>Netori
Not only is chasing after another man's girl scummy, you're desperate to get her during the relationship so that the whiff of the other dude's dick still hasn't left her vegana.
>B-b-but I don't self-insert!
First of all, I doubt that. Second in case you really, really don't, you're still looking at the immense market there is for porn of a myriad genres and fetishes, and you're saying "Yes, the only way I can get off is if there's a guy crying in the corner while the action is happening".

It's a shit fetish no matter which way you spin it.

Live A Live is a game that has 9 chapters. 7 are available originally, the 8th opens up after you finish the initial set, and the 9th is available once you beat the 8th.
In the 8th chapter, you play Oersted, who wins a tournament, gets engaged to a princess, fails to keep her from being kidnapped by demons, gathers up a party to fight the demon king, loses his mentor after killing the demon king, loses his best friend as they escape the demon king castle, is caught in an illusion and tricked into killing the king, loses his last remaining ally breaking out of prison, forces his way back into the demon castle, I think he slaughters his way out of the castle-town,
finds out his best friend faked his death and has been orchestrating all of this, fights and kills his former best friend, finds out the princess was in the dark the whole time, she thought the best friend was the only person looking for her, had fallen in love with the best friend, commits suicide while cursing your name, and then Oersted turns himself into the new, true Demon King who spreads his hate through all of time and space, causing the rest of the game to happen, including both the previous chapters, and the final chapter where the heroes from the first 7 chapters team up to put an end to him once and for all.
Or something like that.

Thankfully not, you get a new boss fight but the ending itself still plays out like before: Oersted realizes his mistakes and dies

Which chapters are short and good for an evening after work playthrough and which are longer better for a full weekend day playthrough?

Anonymous

short: Wild West, Present
medium: Prehistory, Imperial China
a little longer: Edo Japan, Near Future, Distant Future (Near and Distant future are most plot heavy chapters)

none are all that long though, all less than 3 hours
