Here's the attention your father never gave you.
blood = duke nukem > hexen >> quake >>>>>>>>>>>> putrid shit >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> doom
I agree that blood and duke are the best but doom 1 is fine
Doom is positively ancient and nowhere near as good as games are these days.
G8 b8 m8 I r8 8/8
you do you
but I will not do Doom
Your opinion is so tragic it looks like b8.
You are a homosexual.
Do you.
oh no I dont like a 30 fricking year old game
sue me
>build engine morons
>holy wow a shitty map with 3 enemies on it but I can press USE on a stripper, 10/10!
>wow is that a Marvel quip? Dick Lickem is literally me!!
Jump off a bridge with your cancerous opinion. Blood is irrelevant fricking trash.
it's nostalgia for me, I found this floating around my brother's PC when he let me use it, so I took to playing it and had some fun.
It's fun. I like the enemy and weapon designs. It had the most advanced graphics at the time and uses environmental storytelling which was pretty novel for games at the time even though Half-life came out like a year later and totally blew it away.
idk, i liked the first one
my zoom brain didn't even get past the first level in this one
Who worships Quake II? It's a good game, but I've never seen it held in as high regard as the first Quake
An enhanced version just got released and boomers are going crazy about it.
The remaster added some nice stuff, but also made berserkers moronicly annoying. Still prefer Q2RTX though.
They took a 6.5/10 game and made it 8/10 why wouldn't we go crazy about that?
You mean zoomers are going crazy about it. Boomers already played it and decided it was mediocre decades ago.
Zoomers. The enhanced version adds an objective marker that points out where you need to go cause nobody knows how to navigate a level anymore.
This was my first PC game ever (I was 8 and my grandfather took me to EB Games, I was looking for Quake and ended up getting this). I loved the shit out of this when I was in 3rd grade, but goddamn is it boring as frick.
Just replayed Ground Zero after 20 years and thank god for that fricking compass. The maps are all identical brown hallways.
To be fair the game can get a little confusing at times, but that's why the music turns off when you're done with an area.
THATS why the music stops? I thought it was just glitched
Notice how it happens every time you've completed the main objective. It's the game's way of saying you're done there and don't come back.
How the frick would you need a directive marker
The levels aren't strictly linear but they're not exactly mazes.
God damn people are just getting dumber and dumber.
thought this was quake 1 at first and was going to write up a rebuttal but then I saw that it was actually quake 2
carry on, agent
Arcane Dimensions is alot better. Taking out bhop in favor of strafe jumping was also a big mistake. Fricking love me VQ1/AD.
Say this with Goldeneye 64 because that game actually is eh
It's fun
"boomers" already stopped playing video games long before Quake II came out, you wiener sucking moron.
>not having every weapon bound to an easily accessible key
It's obviously for console players
I keep telling you the weapon wheel is shit on consoles the dpad swaps weapons faster without breaking the flow of the game.
>weapon wheel in an arena shooter
It's not an arena shooter in single player.
shit is only for console players, PC players are full hard mode
none of this was necessary
all you needed was 4 point blank SSG shots
>spend a decade perfecting your level designing so it flows somewhat intuitively without being a corridor
>the modern moron still cannot find his way around it without big arrows
>Quake 2
>perfect level design
wow i sure do love back tracking through levels filled with nothing
There are objective arrows now? In Quake? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
It completely optional.
Does the guy who makes these webms intentionally make it 20 fps to frick with people or is he just dobsoning?
Aside from the technical aspects, Quake 2 was considered pretty mid on release
>Quake 2 was considered pretty mid on release
>mid
You weren't even born then.
The thumbs-up guy should be a Berserker leaping and smashing the shitposter.
TRESPASSER
the only people that genuinely think quake 2 is good are contrarians.
If you like doom 2, doom 3, quake 4, quake 2, unreal 2, halo 2, blood 2, serious sam 2, half life 2, fear 2, etc then you need to frick off. Kill sequel Black folk.
There's nothing wrong with Doom 3,Quake 4 and Half Life 2.
nobody likes blood 2
Zoomer that played through the series recently
Quake 1: Fun enough i guess, the first episode was my favourite, I felt like the level design kinda went to shit in a few spots later on from what I recall. the atmosphere was pretty good, despite not liking Lovecraft stuff too much. People harp on about the soundtrack being amazing but its alright ambient stuff I guess
Quake 2: I enjoyed it enough to beat it from start to finish in one sitting compared to Q1 (it was probably shorter anyway but I didn't want to take breaks from it compared to 1). soundtrack was great and reminded me of something Frank klepacki would make. I got lost a bit on the later levels and had to back track a bit but it wasn't too bad. didn't get round to doing the expansions
Quake 4: I don't know the general consensus for this one on here but I had a good time with it, aside from those tank/turret sections. admittedly I don't remember much of it even though it was the last one I played
quake 2 is definitely my favourite, never got the hype for 1, aside from its multiplayer I guess but I play ut99 anyway
Try Arcane Dimensions, that mod turns Quake 1 into what it was trying to be back on release.
Stay the frick away from mods like Dwell, though. A bunch of egotistical morons made it and the level design is atrocious. Good artstyle and music though.
My issues with Q2 after playing the remaster
>railgun does no damage
>you need to use super shotgun like melee weapon to maximize damage
>berserker jump has moronic range, same with shockwaves
What has your second point to do with the remaster? SSG always been like that
yeah I dunno why the hell they felt the need to nerf the railgun. if it was for multiplayer purposes then make it exclusive to that.
It's only nerfed in single player and the decision was entirely made by one ID employee called Sponge.
that's even more baffling
I peeked into the Steam forums and there's multiple topics calling the change moronic. They also have little to no clown awards, which always means that it's normally agreed on that it's a good criticism even by the most annoying fanboys.
So hopefully they'll change it if enough people are mad.
I'm currently having a ton of fun. The compass is a really good addition. Q2 level design isn't that bad, but the problem is that Q2 emphasize exploration and backtracking. So it's very easy to get lost. I actually had the compass break a few times. And had the game crash twice.
>Quake 2
Surprisingly decent, played Q2 in middle school but didn't get far.
>Quake 64
Felt harder than Q2. Was constantly low of supplies. Iron maidens where a fricking pain. The levels where alot smaller and different from the pc version but it was fun seen sections basically copied from the pc version in Q64.
Also I didn't like how they basically disabled bunny hopping.
>Call of the Machine
Playing through this, and I'm amazed by how good it is. I love the map design, Q2 finally has some color.
>rail gun was nerfed
I was wondering why it did such low damage.
What I'm thinking is that they wanted to change the role of the railgun from a power weapon to a trash mob cleaner. I always found myself having a ton of railgun ammo. Q2 already has a bunch of options to deal with heavy units.
>chaingun
>hyper blaster
>super shotgun
>rocket launcher
>grenade launcher
Even still, I never had any problems dealing with the heavy units. (Played on hard)
One thing I do hope they update is the server browser. Let me see more info and sort by ping and let me see what game rules are enabled. It's impossible to search for a instagib lobby
If you wanted a Quake 2 thread you could have just said so.
The remaster is pretty fun so far. I'm done with the main game and the N64 version, but now I'm on the expansions and honestly the first one (The Reckoning) isn't that great. It's just more of the same with some stupid padding.
Half way through one unit you're suddenly told some stupid green ape people have stolen your airstrike marker and have to chase them through previous levels to get it back. It's so goofy and if it wasn't for all the violence you could slap some stupid "comedy" music over this entire section for how it feels.
Also, I hope to god they un-nerf the railgun. What moron thought that was a good idea? Quake 2 has boob gibs before The Citadel and I don't know how to feel about that.
>and I don't know how to feel about that
Erect. Praise the Makron.
Not just boob gibs, Iron Maidens actually have it so their breasts bounce when they shoot their rocket launcher.
I don't think that was in the original, so that's insane coming from a remaster today where the industry wants to pretend they don't get bigger than a B cup.
The Recoking had a shit start but after the sewers it got pretty fun, solid stuff.
Ground Zero could've been good if the guy who made these maps didn't have a hard-on for spamming turrent in every single fricking room.
64 was alright, the tight level design and low ammo acount made it feel unique, but it was a bit too short, funny level finish music tho.
Call of The Machine was pretty kino with the pod launching hub and the level of detail for some levels is insane, but sometimes the gameplay feels a bit like I'm playing a slaughterfest wad, wish they placed enemies in a more meaningful way.
I hope they fix the railgun dmg in a future update and make the PS1 campaign playable.
I'm not at the end yet but I hope the remaster made the Beta Gladiators less horseshit. More health than most bosses, give them a phalanx AND put shit tons of them in the final unit. Great.
The only worse one was in the 25th Anniversary Unit where the modders gave a new type of Gladiator A FRICKING HOMING BFG.
One of the main Devs has finished the playstation campaign but there wasn't enough time to Quality assure it before release.
He doesn't know if it will be included in a future patch, it's up to Bethesda/ID but he said if not he'll release it on his own. It's only the map geometry though. Its not got any of the PlayStation's absolutely KINO vertex lighting. And the chunky as frick software renderer is what made the PlayStation version so cool.
Without those that made it special your just playing downgraded Q2 Maps?
I played the shit out of the PS2 version back in the day. I have no idea how I beat it with those shitty controls and bullshit new enemies. The reactor level was so bullshit with two arachnids wandering around with all the other enemies. I used to be so confused when people said Quake 2 was easy until I played the PC version.
Also, I swear the Tanks died differently on the Playstation. They slowly crumple forwards making mechanical whirring noises, while in all other versions they lose an arm and fall flat on their back.
It's cool how a little bit of color lighting and a different skybox can completely change the atmosphere.
PS1 monsters also needs a md5 high poly version
How was the PS1 campaign different form the PC version?
>I hope they fix the railgun dmg in a future update and make the PS1 campaign playable.
according to the /vr/ thread stuff they'll bump up the damage to 125 from 100, instead of the original 150, because someone up there is really autistic about how the Railgun should be rebalanced
Looks like I'll be going back to Yamagi after checking out the new content, then!
the someone autistic about balance is Sponge a id dev known to be a c**t at discord
Is there even a justification for it or is it made entirely out of some obscene sense of "this is our game now, we do what we want"?
Muh balance
I don't get it, this kind of autism wasn't in Quake 1's remaster though. The explosives still explode as they do and the Thunderbolt wasn't touched. They nerfed the Nightmare difficulty, but that at least seemed like a general approach change. Q2R, numerous enemies are enhanced, weapon balance is shifted a bit (if mostly for Machinegun and Railgun), and all sorts of weird additions and changes that feel like someone wanted to make their mark on Quake 2 more than they wanted to directly remaster it. If they hate the Railgun being so powerful there's no need to keep the balance change for both SP and MP.
keep in mind it has to count literally every single person that already owned quake 2, 8% picking it up and completing the first unit after a week is actually a big number for the circumstances
>I don't get it, this kind of autism wasn't in Quake 1's remaster though
What? The Quake 1 remaster nerfed vore's tracking, reduced shambler damage to half and gutted nightmare mode by slowing the enemies down. It's a butchered port.
Because of Fricking Copperhomosexualry
so quake 1 gets nerfed and quake 2 gets harder? frickin weird
Just make different stats for SP and MP.
The new remaster is pretty much a criterion collection version of the game.
CotM > GZ > Q2 > Reckoning
I don't. Quake 1 was better.
Quake 1 was Shit Black person
what's the difference between this & doom aren't they the same kind of game?
maybe it's because I grew up on the tail end of 3D's like golden eye but I don't get the "lasting" appeal
>zoomie with anime picture and shit opinion
a match made in heave
It was alright
Quake 1 always had a bigger impact on me since it was eerie and scary. Quake 2 is scary though, in its own way, more into the Strogg complex where theres the torture chambers. It really made you hate the Strogg
Still Q1 has the best maps and mods. Q2 had the MP but also got deprecated once Q3 hit the shelves. But the music is banging hard, no other goes as hard as Descent into Cerberon.
the 64 versions of both are great!
Quake 3 (live) remaster next?
It would suck the little life out of Champions so they won't.
Shame it has the core gameplay down but everything else around the game sucks.
>tfw still playing Quake live at least once a week and realizing there is no subsistute
if Q3A Ever gets the remastered, they will use the tessellated models settings as default and tweak from there
that already exists sweetie, it's called quake champions 😉
Quake Live runs perfectly on modern systems. What would a remaster could even do that is worth splitting the tiny playerbase?
Sure, but everything ''remastered'' about Quake so far has all been optional stuff, which is great.
It would help Quake Live to get some love too, just spruce up the place so to speak.
Add it all the options menu, make it all toggleable.
People might be inclined to come back to it, while the current playerbase (which is 300-400 at it's peak) remains untouched since they play as classic as they want.
I've been playing the re-release for a while and despite having plenty of fun with it I still can't shake the feeling that not just Half-Life but also Unreal did everything this game tried to do but better.
I honestly have more fun playing the holy trifecta of Build engine games.
At least those games had a gimmick or two to make them interesting, Q2 is very formulaic by comparasion.
>I honestly have more fun playing the holy trifecta of Build engine games.
who doesn't
In fact, you know something? I'm gonna quote a comment I saw once "Quake 2 is the perfect proof that John Romero needed John Carmack as much as Carmack needed Romero. Without Romero (and to an extent Sandy petersen) Carmack made Quake 2, a visually and technologically ground breaking game but a game that had little to no soul (the only person who actually cared about it was Tim Willits) and without Carmack, Romero made Daikatana, a game oozing with inspiration and soul but technically a mess (specially with the A.I) and with very little polish"
>Daikatana
>a game oozing with inspiration and soul
You can't deny Romero was making the game he wanted to make.
It was shit, don't get me wrong but it was HIS shit.
Quake 2 is oozing soul, imagine taking the word of some homosexual reviewer as gospel in any year
>I still can't shake the feeling that not just Half-Life but also Unreal did everything this game tried to do but better.
Well they should have considering they both came out after Quake 2. Back then most developers actually played videogames and actively tried to improve on the games they played when making their own projects.
>I still can't shake the feeling that not just Half-Life but also Unreal did everything this game tried to do but better.
Half-Life, maybe, but I really didn't care for Unreal. I do think UT is better than Q3 though.
I always said that Half-Life felt more like the real Quake II.
go back to fortnite, fr fr no cap
zoomer moron
Nobody fricking worships Quake 2
quake 2 was always a good game, also the soundtrack was good too. plebs dont realize how fun rocket arena 2 multiplayer servers were.
Quake II is lame and yes it's because there's no muzzle flashes. I'm sick of people calling me moronic for it. IT NEEDS MUZZLE FLASHES or the game will feel like shit.
Anon... the remaster has muzzle flashes.
Sweet well that was always my main complaint, so it's a good game now.
It has muzzle flash now
Will anything come out of the Quake 1 cameos like how Doom 64 HD linked it to Doom '16/Eternal, or was that just Machine Games being cheeky?
if they don't do a sequel with playable ranger & bitterman with some grotesque cthulhu/strogg hybrid shit then they're moronic
Bitterman is at the arena and ranger lost his sanity
Also Ranger's VA who is also Krauser's VA in RE4 and the Sink in FalloutNV is dying of Cancer
They can just recast them. It's not like anybody is tripping over Brian Bloom not being the guy that did BJ's "YEAH" in Wolfenstein 3D.
they confirmed that Q2 map limitations were removed
you can shove a even bigger AD into it with doom manhathan sized maps
>The new episode is basically Dwell but actually good
No wonder Fairweather and his homosexual little group are shitting the bed over this thing.
they are coping with the fact that the source port removed all limitations Q2 mapping had in terms of size and more
and even starting to open a Q2 front at slipseer now
https://www.slipseer.com/index.php?threads/quake-2-support-yay-or-nay.129/page-2#post-2370
I swear, the moment those c**ts turn on each other the sooner the Quake community will improve. They started out trying to overthrow the original community with weird, vague accusations and then set themselves up as the "true" community despite only playing the game for a few years. I fricking hate them, they don't accept any criticism and sit in their literal troony circlejerk telling each other what great mappers they are while being showered with praise by other kids who wouldn't know good mapping if it fricked their mothers in front of them.
We hate ourselves.
>8.9% of the players have done the first 3 +1 secret maps
It's not as fun as Quake 1. I don't think it's that weird that the novelty wears off quick.
In all fairness, most of the people who own Quake 2 haven't checked out the remaster yet.
On the first day the achievement for the first unit of the campaign was one of the rarest achievements I had at 0.1%
This isn't unique to this game, people have constant access to new goyslop so they just buy stuff, maybe play an hour or 2 and then move onto the next game.
You know it doesn't back-award it to everyone who already beat it, right?
QUAKE 3 BROS, WE KEEP WINNING!
I thought Quake II was bad until I realized it didn't have the soundtrack included
It's transformative with it, it's honestly just as good if not better than Quake 1
Quake 1 was better
