Why do CRTs make?

Why do CRTs make Ganker SEETHE so much? Is it because they remind millennials of how old they are?

Because people don't like being told the TV they just paid 5 grand for, is worse than one from 30 years ago.

You seriously can't carry a couple of dozen KG?

Motherfricker if not just the weight. Its how fricking big and unbalanced the they are. And if you drop or bump into something too hard you break it.

        >Because people don't like being told the TV they just paid 5 grand for, is worse than one from 30 years ago.
        This is very disingenuous cope
The progression of visual technology in the early 2000s for the consumer markets is astounding

LCDs and OLEDs are nearing each other in terms of capabilities
I can't think of anything a CRT does that an LCD/OLED doesn't already do well with all these years of progression
        >couple dozen KG
        Bro a 27" is like 90lbs wtf

      Yes.
      Several CRT televisions.
      Several flights of stairs.
More than a dozen times in my military life.

      Stop being weak.

more often then I can fricking count.
carry one crt up, put another back in the basement to switch up the set I use.
Should be no problem at all for a physically healthy guy

Most people hyping up CRTs are functionally moronic.
Typically they don't know what they're looking for, they don't know how to analyze for quality, and invariably the best they'll do is a goodwill or craigslist CRT, which aren't usually where you'll find high end CRTs, let alone studio CRTs.
They also don't know shit about cords, so they'll get low quality third party cables for the systems they're hooking up. They don't invest in a compatible speaker system, which means they'll get low quality TV audio. Etc., etc.

Really, 99% of people should not be buying CRTs, because there is barely enough for even 1% of people interested in them, and less than 1% even know what they're looking for or have a proper use case for them. The vast majority of people talking about CRTs and buying them:
    >have no idea what they're looking for
    >have no idea what quality picture on a CRT is
    >thinks a rear projection unit is better because it's bigger
    >only want it because they saw an aesthetic post and will probably put it in their closet or sell it in a handful of months

I went on like a week long spree learning what all this shit means

I came out realizing that a high quality OLED with filters does the same thing

If I find a computer monitor one day...I guess I'll snatch it up for the novelty

Wouldn't they want to capitalize on it for dedicated enthusiasts?

          But what advantages are there?

            Anonymous

            there are advantages and disadvantages.
            >no motion blur
            >could reach unreal amount of hz, could be even more today
            >no native resolution
            Disadvantages:
            >improving ppi is very hard and costly
            >retooling is very costly
            >in general making and shipping is fubar without economy of scale
            >brightness is meh
            >nearly unusable in direct sunlight
            >contrast is excellent only aslong as there is not too much white on screen
            >bigger crt is exponentially heavier
            >getting to higher resolutions involves pushing analog technology like DACs and amplifiers to bonkers levels
            >requires more physical adjustments then lcd and co
            >enviromental hazard
basically aslong as you are using a crt in a dark room, know how to make adjustments, and are using high quality parts along the way from the GPU to the CRT you will have a fantastic time.
If you wanna use a crt in a bright office enviroment you will have a horrible time.
crts were outclassed for alot of usecases and the market for hardcore display people is small.
and even in that market there is an argument to be made for displays with wider color gamuts and better brightness.
            >tldr
crts were fricking amazing if you use them right but the circumstances that led to high end PC crts being a thing will never ever be repeated
