It was basically the beginning of the end for Pokemon. It gave us some cool designs but is also the root of the problems with modern Pokemon, most notably the dexcut. One could argue that Alola was the start but Galar REALLY brought the issues out.

No it was when the end became super clear. The real beginning of the issues that plague this series to this very day started in Gen 6, honestly arguably even Gen 5 despite how much I like the games.
The beginning of the end actually happened all the way back in gen 1, when businessman Ishihara was allowed to take the reins on massively capitalizing on Red & Green's breakout success in Japan by rapidly expanding the franchise with the anime, the TCG and merchandise out the ass.

There's just too much controversy. It introduced the dexcut which made fans more critical than ever. Ultimately despite all the bullshit SwSh is just mediocre and will one day be memoryholed, only kept afloat through coombait and the occasional Charizard shitpost, it's barely beating out XY.
