Cause he's frickin nutty and solid as always. Besides, he's also just cool. Doesn't talk much, uses his actions and fists instead, builds model kits as a hobby, feared but doesn't really give much of a shit about his reputation especially these days, unamused facial expression at all times despite whimsical hobby. He's just a cool dude in addition to being really good.

I mean, it makes sense to have a Thai guy as the Muay Thai practitioner of the game, especially since there weren't any Thai characters in Tekken before. The big problem is that frickyourmom has the most unappealing character design ever. Besides, we have like five Mishima karate practitioners, there’s room for two Muay Thai guys.

He is most cheapest of all cheap top tier prostitutes.
He's the perfect online character. Oppressive mids that are either ch launch, or are + on block (in some cases both). Good lows to retain your "turn". Strong counter hit moves to remind your opponent that you shouldn't press buttons while they're minus. Bunch of "gotcha" moves with delayable extensions. Command grabs for each break, and grab mixups are scrubkillers because majority of the playerbase can't break them by looking at the hands.
On top of all that, he's actually top tier and people tend to gravitate towards strong characters, however I believe he would still be top 10 even if he was in his late Tekken 7 state because he's just a cool ass character.
Can't help but notice that the new characters all have a high usage rate.
