Early Final Fantasy, especially those on the ps1, just felt like Ghibli. I replayed 8 and 9 and i still have this feeling that tells me "yep, this is Final Fantasy". Then i replayed 6 again and got the same feeling. The story and music has something charming and magical. It was lost a long time ago and FFXVI just isn't a Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy ended with X and if you think otherwise you are either a zoomer or a disingenious moron XIV drone that dickrides Yoshida.
So what is Final Fantasy? You didn't really specify anything, mainly just saying that "if I feel like it, it's Final Fantasy."
Surely you have to know your own tastes, right? You're not exclusively driven by emotions, unable or unwilling (or both) to analyze them, are you? I don't really see what anybody sees in the franchise, past or present. Some fun story concepts executed awkwardly, good concept artwork, great soundtracks that continue today. All stuff I can experience without suffering 40 hours of shit gameplay the franchise is known for. If I want to watch a Ghibli film, I'll watch a Ghibli film. 90-120 minutes, in and out, with a competent story and character arcs. Save myself 38 hours to use for shitposting. The frick is the point of Final Fantasy? What a joke franchise. The pinnacle embarrassment of the medium. Why didn't Sephiroth kill Aerith before she casted Holy?
The franchise used to have romance, cool stories, soundtracks, job systems, minigames, good cast of characters. When cutscenes were introduced they were used both as a reward and to reveal important story pieces.
Nowadays every area i mentioned is a shell of it's former self. They just aren't as good or engaging.
