>look this up >completely real >they hired a woman explicitly to add Scientology content to the game, but stopped it before anything went live
LOL I can't believe I never heard about this. This probably would've generated massive controversy back in the day.
Unironically this, but the early sellout to Viacom absolutely killed the franchise.
Neopets wanted the money to fund the site asap without the foresight of the future as insanely popular as Neopets got in 2000-2004. It's not like selling out was a mistake, but Viacom entirely saw the site as an ad revenue farm until it eventually died out and left to rot in the sun until people got upset. The re-buyback from Jumpstart within the last year as a second attempt is definitely a push back in the right direction to get a playerbase back. Worked for me. No really I made a new account last month and it's still fine.
So far they're doing several pushes to get it mobile friendly in a world of phones, and steadying out a cancerous economy of 20 year old accounts hoarding quadrillions worth of super deluxe rare items, causing a hilarious uproar in the 0.1% crying how their items are worthless now.
>steadying out a cancerous economy of 20 year old accounts hoarding quadrillions worth of super deluxe rare items, causing a hilarious uproar in the 0.1% crying how their items are worthless now.
Oh wait seriously? That is fricking hilarious!
They're currently having a little yearly Neopies event, to celebrate the past year of Neopets stuff, like voting for your favorite NC mall item or something. You get a teensy tiny little reward for voting: Draik Eggs, MSP Poogle Plushies, Magical Chia Popsand valuable Paint Brushes.
Remember how I said I started back up again 1 month ago? I've made 5m+ from these rewards. I almost have my dream pets (outside of an Alien Aisha, something money can't easily buy), and that really cemented in me that the Daily Quests and other insane free junk really made the game a L O T more casual. The Weekly Quest reward is on average 400k-800k every week. It's really just a waiting game on making NP now.
I completely understand the reasoning behind forcing this much NP into the economy using daily quests. A good 40% of their games are barely functional since they ran on Flash, and nobody has time for that shit anymore, they're really for farming profile trophies now. Just feels like an entirely different game now.
For every game? That'd be a real feat. From what I understand right now they're either remastering games or using Ruffle to emulate Flash for them.
A good handful of the fan favorite games on the front page are mobile friendly supposedly, like Meerca Chase, Kass Basher, and Ultimate Bullseye. Completely obscure ones like Advert Attack and Zurroball are either barely hanging in there (playable state with some bugs), or completely unplayable like Zurroball being unable to even click on the ball, despite the UI working fine.
Which sucks because Hannah and the X Caves were my absolute favorite games. (Double funny for the people who can and went out of their way to get a Flash version that works with these games, because the leaderboards are completely uncontested for trophies on them.)
>tfw voting every day and still haven't gotten a paint brush >or draik egg >or msp plushie >or chia pop >but got a rainbow pride flag

Watching the price plummet on the 8-bit potion on the Advent Calendar was something else. Not even a good color, it was just nice to see the value fall to nothing.
you mean "men"? transgender "men" are actually women; born with veganas and a clitoris. a biological male would never play neopets unless it was a child back in the 2000s.
because I made an account as a kid and then about 20 years later I got really drunk and saw an image someone made about how your neopets were confused and scared and don't know why you abandoned them and then I couldn't stop thinking about that image every time I drank so I started playing again to get to the point where I have enough money in the bank to use my daily interest to put them in a hotel where they'll be happy and fed so I can drink guilt free
>/vg/ general was peak comfy >got moved to /trash/ eventually >Neopet threads simply stopped existing
I still have my Gelert plushie somewhere and my Kacheek plushie is still by my bedside... ;_;
I don't think I was there for the transition but I assume because it was sometimes dead and only had a small and consistent number of people
think we had a guild or two going, wonder how that's doing now
i actually saw some random article about the change they made to pet art or something the other day and was thinking about getting back into it. maybe tomorrow ill finally make an account and start it up. when i was a kid all i did was collect avatars to use on the forum boards. i loved those forums so much
I went back to my old account and decided to try to get the game avatars I couldn't get as a child, thinking it'd be a lot easier as an adult. Nope! I still suck at flash games and a lot of Neopets games are total RNG-dependent bullshit to begin with.
you know why
if they played their cards right, they could have been as big as pokemon
they got run for multiple years by the scientologists
they were fricking doomed at that point

Have they not implemented an alternative player?

You underestimate the incompetence of the people who ran it before the recent purchase.

I got the msp plushie yesterday, im letting that shit age in my sdb for a bit
You can get paint brushes for feeding your pet, now.

The new art is so fricking soulless
Yeah that's hoot as frick
The art was always soulless.
Testin in red thread
Nostalgia probably
dominic promised in the last ama to bring back the "mmo aspects" so im hoping it wont just be a dress-up site for long
you mean "men"? transgender "men" are actually women; born with veganas and a clitoris. a biological male would never play neopets unless it was a child back in the 2000s.
Neoquest was my jam
Not enough men played this as children and now we don't have enough Illusen porn
cute animals
I played Neopets to have the most Neopoints.
I was not successful
I haven't fed my Neopet in 14 years.
For me, it's getting my dailies done through Neopian Times.

Why would the general get moved to /trash/ ??
I don't think I was there for the transition but I assume because it was sometimes dead and only had a small and consistent number of people
think we had a guild or two going, wonder how that's doing now
I'd check my old account but I'm afraid of the 20 year cringe.
I can't even check my old account because it was given to me by a kid who has his password set to his home number 20+ years ago.

>Adults play this game
My groomer detector is going off.
I played this when I was a kid but I'm afraid only trannies would care for this shit now
I don't play any of this shit but I want to frick all these plushie looking things
my whole family had an account each back in the day and we'd take turns on the night playing slots and seeing what each other won, was good times
