Why do people hate Megaman 1?

Why do people hate Megaman 1? Every time I say it's my favorite of the NES games on this board, somebody calls me a troll.

It's fine if it's your favorite. But it is far outclassed by all of it's sequels. It has a lot of rough edges and some sloppy programming here and there (those damn flying platforms). It kind of feels like it came out right before NES games started becoming much more refined.
It would be held in a lot higher regard had it been the only game in it's series.

pretty much this plus the fact that it only has 6 bosses. feels like a proof of concept for the series at large

I think most people like it, it's just not as highly regarded as 2 or 3 (depending on who you talk to)

And, no matter how much people might seem to hate it, nobody will ever hate it as much as they hate ___me___

Then why did every game after 3 follow its consistent boss weakness system instead of 2's or 3's?

3 used to be considered very close to 2, if not equal. And nobody would blink if you thought 3 was better. "3 is bad" is a really modern phenomenon and I'm not sure where it originated from.
      [...]
MM9 purposefully removed the slides and charge and it's one of the best games in the series. They're fine but you don't NEED them.

9 has so many forced things like that. It's cringe. Still fun, but cringe because it's essentially a devoted to reddit-esque moments.

I mean...who cares about the boss weaknesses being off by one weapon? It's not a huge deal and it's splitting hairs.
Nothing about 9 is "forced." They literally looked at 20 years of Mega Man games and said "OK, what actually works? What is actually fun?" and they knocked it out of the park. Calling it "reddit" really shows you have no fricking idea what you're talking about.

          >who cares about the boss weaknesses being off by one weapon? It's not a huge deal and it's splitting hairs.
I'll take that as a concession, and half the bosses being weak to Metal Blade only is not "splitting hairs."
          >Nothing about 9 is "forced." They literally looked at 20 years of Mega Man games and said "OK, what actually works? What is actually fun?" and they knocked it out of the park.
No sliding or charging simply because MM2 didn't have that is absolutely forced (hence why they allow you to buy those as DLC). The games worked great and were fun with sliding and charging, meaning taking those away had nothing to do with "making the games more fun" but only to do with making the game feel like MM2. IIRC, Inafune even said that they were trying to make the game as much like 2 as possible. (9 is 90 times better than 2, though, to be clear)

Most memed is not best, moron. Otherwise, we would have seen 1 power killing nearly every enemy in the game (including bosses) in every game past 3 (which also had a strange boss-weakness system, but more consistent than 2's omgsorandum! one).

      I like Megaman 1 too.

I thought 3 was the worst classic one. Still better than the Megaman X games tough.

3 being the worst classic Mega Man is Zoomtuber shit. It has some weird odds and ends and I guess you could argue it's "unfinished" but what is there is still some of the best in the series. Second best soundtrack next to MM 2 also.
You're right about the X games though...except for X1 which is one of the best games across the entire franchise

It's literally considered to be one of the greatest NES games, like 2. It's 3-6 that people mostly don't give a shit about. I mean like regular gamers outside the fanbase

I thought 3 was almost on par with 2 in terms of popularity. I prefer 2 but I always see those two getting pitted against each other in arguments. 4-6 definitely though.

    It's better than Megaman 2.
The problem is the game doesn't have any saves or passwords so Capcom asks you to beat the whole game in one sitting. Which is asking a lot so understandably Megaman 2 would be a much more beatable and more popular game
But if you hack Megaman 1 and give it some kind of progress tracking then it just becomes a better game than 2 imo

Mega Man 1 is okay. Lots of Capcom games of the era only got decent games if they got sequels.

Unlike 2 or 3, 1 doesn't have any bad moment, and every weapon is well balanced and worth using.

cutter is so-so but fire shield is really good, doesn't lag the game either

It's even more funny when people then go on to praise Mega Man 2 when it was highly derivative junk that was literally churned out in three months. The Mega Man series is extremely overrated in general, but at least Mega Man 1 gets points for originality, and is the most pure experience before slides and charge shots and e tanks flooded the games

NTA but I could do without the charge shot personally. Needing to constantly hold the fire button down and constantly hearing the charge sound drowning out the music I do think hampers the sequels a bit. I love what the slide adds to movement and E-tanks are harmless health items I see no problem with either of those.

I have the same problem with Zanac. Love the music in that game but firing any of your weapons cuts out parts of the music.

Never understood the appeal of Mega Man. Just a memo-heavy platformer except with Simon Says trial and error boss weaknesses and a shitload of obnoxious menu'ing thrown in. The worst thing is the fricking traversal gadgets use energy, so then you're forced to sit there and fricking farm for a pittance of energy. I remember once where I was trapped in an area with no energy and few enemies, so I was basically wasting the gadget energy to reach more enemies just to farm more energy. It's like waste 5 energy to gain 6. Absolutely fricking asinine system, who enjoys this moronic farming tedium in their action game? At that point just frick me off to the start of the stage.

The level design just always felt really cheap and lazy and when you see the games were developed and tested in just a couple months, it makes sense. It literally feels like lazy, procedurally generated slop. Just so fricking mindless with no flow or rhythm or consistency to anything.

They don't have the ability to think critically. All of their opinions come from others. The first game is maybe my second favorite.

Original Mega Man looks barebones compared to later games. Six bosses instead of eight, a required navigation is hidden in a stage behind a block that requires a specific ability, Yellow Devil filtering people, stuff like that is a bit much for casuals to handle compared to later games. It's still great and people should give it a shot.
To avoid some of the menu nonsense in the original six games, play the Rockman Complete Works versions. Pretty sure they even keep the 256x224 resolution so that the games keep the same visual style as on the NES. First game has the European version of Mega Man's landing on the ground sound effect. Hit boxes are unified across most if not all of the games so there's one spot in Mega Man 3 where if you pick the wrong spot to fall a laser kills you. Aside from that you have the option of memory card saving and using triggers to swap weapons. Cool shit if you ask me.

I've beaten it a few times and love the music but it is primitive compared to the later games as it's only UNROM while the later ones are MMC1/MMC3 with much bigger ROMs.

People are saying it's barebones and not as impressive as the others but I always thought people would get burned out by the series around 4-6.

The first three are the best, the last three are a chore. The progression between 1-2-3 also is well executed.
