>Y-Yeah japan is making better products in general, b-but our cartoons are still w-way better!! This japanimation things are a dumb fad!!!
Oh, so americans have always been this insecure?
This is so funny to me, because when digimon started airing they went hard on "THIS IS JUST A COPY OF MY FAVORITE SHOW POKEMON!!!"
These guys are the biggest trend hoppers there are
Also many pictures reference The Electric Tale Of Pikachu, which is amazing. Hell, it's already great that they know about the games when most older parodies were all about the anime and the cards.
They couldve at least held their words instead of embarrassing themselves with this shit lmao
Even a gay like Nostalgia Critic kept disliking it even when it was clear it wasnt a fad anymore.
>Sounds like
A zoomer has no right to call anything a cultural parasite. Anyhow, they were well above what dorkly does. See
Also many pictures reference The Electric Tale Of Pikachu, which is amazing. Hell, it's already great that they know about the games when most older parodies were all about the anime and the cards.
>how can staring at a totally frozen face entertain anyone?
These people realize it looks like this because they're often literally copying comic book styles over there right? They're a fricking comic book themselves, they shouldn't be throwing around the idea of images being boring.
I can't tell if Ash swapping between his anime design and the Electric Pikachu one is part of the joke or just an artist who simply doesn't give a shit about keeping his reference material consistent.
MAD's thing was aggressive satire, a sort of counter-culture movement to anything and everything America enjoyed. This comic isn't different from their other works or many other things in the same genre. Seeing all these zoomers shocked and offended just goes to show how soft current media has made them due to the lack of realistic ugliness and criticism.
they kinda predicted unown
Winged eyeballs are (were?) a common creature design. Have you never seen anything other than Pokémon in your life?
>Have you never seen anything other than Pokémon in your life?
Not much but some of more important Annie-Mays were on my list tho… Is it some generic Yōkai?
I like how they take a jab at them walking past the generic forest background. Though it's comfy, the original anime could have switched it up a bit more.
>how can staring at a totally frozen face entertain anyone?
These people realize it looks like this because they're often literally copying comic book styles over there right? They're a fricking comic book themselves, they shouldn't be throwing around the idea of images being boring.
>the misty farting panel is there for literally no reason at all
Based.
Someone go call /tcc/, they're about to get burned.
those things are still better mons designs than anything Turner has ever shit out
>how can staring at a totally frozen face entertain anyone?
These people realize it looks like this because they're often literally copying comic book styles over there right? They're a fricking comic book themselves, they shouldn't be throwing around the idea of images being boring.
Did people try and fail to invest on Smurf and Ninja Turtles shit back in the day or something? I don't get what it's trying to reference comparing them to beanie babies. It's even funnier then now knowing how good of an investment all this onions crap turned out to be.
There really wasn't an example of a fad lasting longer, most were three years max. Ninja Turtles had probably the longest lifespan at that point, keeping up their momentum for around six or seven years. And Pokemon did run out of momentum for a while, it happened between Gold & Silver's release and Crystal's release, which meshed with the typical three year lifespan. But then it got big again when DP came out. And it got HUGE again when Pokemon GO came out.
>A rip off of the old "war" game
Thats a new one, most people back then just called it Magic the Gathering for babies (As if MTG was particularly adult lmao)
Ahh the mad magazine… good times, I prefered the mad magazine shoe better but the magazine was fun, I was more of an El Vibora guy but mad was pretty fun too
Nah, it's just fun to see stuff like this in retrospect. I don't care about the shitting on pokemon aspect, I do that everyday here
Also >Zoomer
Probably older than you
IF you were older, it'd be even more embarrassing to claim that anything deserved to die for not being able to predict Pokémon would become the phenomenon it is now (as even people today can't believe it) or not being able to use the term "karma" corrrectly. Either way, you're an idiot.
No, it just couldn't adapt to the times and be competitive, just take Blockbuster as an example. At the time, a "nobody" tried to sell them the idea of streaming, they laughed at that guy, months later that same guy founded Netflix.
You realize Netflix was not a streaming service at first, right? Is your moronic zoomer ass too young to remember back when their thing was sending DVDs directly to you in the mail?
They did, it was mashed together with a Jurassic Park skit and was made by people with a much more infantile sense of humor, on par with webcomic creators.
Oh for sure, its vp, it cant be helped that zoomers will be shitting up the place
I just think its funny that this guy is fighting tooth and nail for the honor of MAD of all things
Because I always found her cute and funny. No, really this time. She's adorable and the way she bounced off of Ash and Brock was entertaining as hell. Kid me fell in love with her pretty quick and it kick started my love of feisty tomboy types that you can compete with, have fights with, hang out with like bros, and also enjoy that girly side to them they don't usually show. Another thing that made Misty palatable is that Ash wasn't some helpless victim all the time and gave her shit right back, and often antagonized her on purpose. It's so comfy and perfect. How can anyone NOT like Misty?
I guess people get turned off by the slapstick physical comedy? But I grew up watching Looney Tunes and stuff, that shit was just compleeeeeetely normal to me and I never took it even half serious. It's just crazy gags, and it just highlights what I like about her even more.
For the zoomlings that don't get why this comic seems to be so bitter, basically the people that drew this, along with a lot of people in the industry, hated 80s cartoons for being soulless, cheaply animated toy commercials, and there were even campaigns to take those types of cartoons off the air. So when the japs put out what is essentially a commercial for the Pokemon video game/TCG, with animation that had less in-betweens than your average Disney cartoon, many people in the industry thought this was just another soulless jap product marketed to kids and manchildren (they were kinda right)
>a lot of people in the industry, hated 80s cartoons for being soulless, cheaply animated toy commercials
We know what old people are, we grew up around them. You don't need to describe why and how old people are moronic and don't know what soul is.
>(they were kinda right)
They weren't though. The Pokémon anime had a lot of soul in the first season and diverted from its source material in a lot of ways.
Yeah, but the soul was mainly within the writing and music department. But honestly, compared to now, even the worst schlock of the 90s is a godsend compared to anything made now
Based animation history enjoyer schooling literal zoomers and other assorted morons on animation history. People who think the anime was not a cheaply-made toy commercial are genuinely deluding themselves. And yeah, it was airing during a kind of 90s western animation renaissance, so the success of something so comparatively artless probably rubbed a lot of western illustrators and animators (and fans of those media) the wrong way.
Not to say there wasn’t also fantastic animation being put out by Japan at the time (or earlier), but the Pokémon anime was real bottom of the barrel shit right from the beginning.
>the Pokémon anime was real bottom of the barrel shit right from the beginning
Yeah. It was specially notable when watching similar anime like Digimon, Monster Rancher and Yu-Gi-Oh!. Pokémon did have its moments of being a good show but it kinda rubbed you the wrong way most of the time.
I actually fully agree most 90s cartoons were bad (just like most cartoons today are bad), and that most probably had bad art direction — this was the “slime” generation, after all. But there was still genuine care and craft put into many of these shows, unlike modern western animation which is standardized for efficiency with stock assets and almost all movement coming from basic motion tweens. Take something like Ren and Stimpy: even if you think it’s ugly, you have to respect the philosophy behind the animation, the dedication to never drawing the same pose or expression twice.
And just to note, the same aversion to stock assets and tweening is what draws people to anime today. Japan is now the one real holdout that’s still doing “traditional” frame-by-frame animation instead of shitty tweened or 3D animation.
It's always funny thinking back to how much adult artists seethed at the thought that children don't care about their craft and will watch any garbage as long as they can own a toy of it.
>Why do people like Misty again?
People were young and stupid, and simply attached themselves to the first girls they saw, which as Misty as many people were introduced to the Pokemon IP via the anime.
Misty a shit and she'll always be a shit but I'm okay with people liking her because opinions are allowed to be have and respected
Honestly it's funny looking back on how angry children's media producers were at the 90s anime boom. Just look at Cartoon Network around the mid-90s. Pretty much every popular original cartoon on the network did their own DBZ parody. Oh, and the only reason Powerpuff Girls was picked up was to combat the success of anime, and make a "DBZ for girls"; it was even marketed as such
After the SSJ3 transformation episode had aired, it was revealed that it was one of the highest rated cartoons to ever be broadcasted on Cartoon Network, and it caused so much anger with the top creators at the network, that they did an interview with Craig McCracken and Lauren Faust, were they openly bashed the show, with similar sentiments to the ones you see in this mad magazine parody.
tl;dr, Japan stays winning
every cartoon from before like 2010 was disgusting and ugly, and worse it was on purpose. i hated looking at them even then. no one should wonder why anime took off.
>tfw like medias from all around the world
Having preferences is perfectly understandable of course but I just don't see why you'd limit yourself so much in an era where almost everything is at your fingertips.
Was this MAD magazine or something else?
I found it, it is from MAD yeah. I like how Pikachu looks like a literal mouse.
>they predicted Applin
That's like saying Fleischer predicted Litwick because of all the ghost candles in their cartoons.
>Y-Yeah japan is making better products in general, b-but our cartoons are still w-way better!! This japanimation things are a dumb fad!!!
Oh, so americans have always been this insecure?
How did you only just NOW realize that most Americans are insecure?
This is so funny to me, because when digimon started airing they went hard on "THIS IS JUST A COPY OF MY FAVORITE SHOW POKEMON!!!"
These guys are the biggest trend hoppers there are
Nah, you can see that the guys writing this liked Pokémon, how would they know about the moves and shit and the card game rules if they hated it?
Also many pictures reference The Electric Tale Of Pikachu, which is amazing. Hell, it's already great that they know about the games when most older parodies were all about the anime and the cards.
>These guys are the biggest trend hoppers there are
A magazine about parodies follows popculture trends? Who could have guessed!
They couldve at least held their words instead of embarrassing themselves with this shit lmao
Even a gay like Nostalgia Critic kept disliking it even when it was clear it wasnt a fad anymore.
bro chill, mad magazine literally parodied EVERYTHING that came out
Thats what I meant tho
Popculture parody shit is always trend hopping and lame
Sounds like they were a dorkly level parasite, no idea why youre defending them

A zoomer has no right to call anything a cultural parasite. Anyhow, they were well above what dorkly does. See

Holy shit they were seething hard
>American know-how reigns supreme
>Cartoons
Wasn't America already getting mogged to death by Canada in the cartoon department by this point?
If you have a fart fetish, yeah
That's pretty ironic considering the OP, Canadians cartoons except eee suck balls though
Nope, they were all equally shit, there was the good show here and there but it was mostly shit
they aren't wrong about Pokemon causing autism
causation =/= correlation.
Pokemon has a lot of autistic fans because the series appeals to autistic sensibilities, not because it turns people from normal to autistic.
>words words words words words
>a basketball
america is centered around...
>immediately associates a sport invented by a white man with Black folks
your brain is centered around Black folk.
everything was invented by white men

I can't tell if Ash swapping between his anime design and the Electric Pikachu one is part of the joke or just an artist who simply doesn't give a shit about keeping his reference material consistent.
honestly they seem to be seething too hard, but they are completely correct in terms their criticisms of the anime and card game
also jessie looks hot

I wish there was a variant of doduo that looked like a rubber hose era cartoon
anyway this is some lame boomer humor shit
The frick is their obsession with those winged eyeballs?
they kinda predicted unown
Dat Jessie!

Read this at library when I was 8
Jessie here gave me my first boner

stuffed belly and farting for no reason out of nowhere, they didn´t even try to hide it or make it subtle

That made me laugh, goddamn it.

No.

Yes.
They should've made it an actual MAD cartoon skit.
The show didn't exist yet.
Then they had time to refine the script.
They did, it was mashed together with a Jurassic Park skit and was made by people with a much more infantile sense of humor, on par with webcomic creators.
other anon was probably talking about MadTV, not the fricking Cartoon Network show
>GBA-SP
What year was this made in?
2010, if you can believe it
So that's why it looks like a modern Newgrounds flash animation, it probably was one…
I'd unironically fap to that Misty if there was more art
Never used to like her, but she grew on me.
I guess it's the whole time strengthens attraction deal.
Why is there so little brap porn of pokegirls?
Because most common tastes are sane.
It's much more common than you think
>common tastes
>sane
Believe it or not, the vast, vast, vast majority of people are not turned on by farting or burping or puking or pissing or shitting.

Interesting.....
He is right there is definitely a zoomer in the thread tho.
Oh for sure, its vp, it cant be helped that zoomers will be shitting up the place
I just think its funny that this guy is fighting tooth and nail for the honor of MAD of all things
Is Chinpokomon the only funny parody from the Pokémania era?
Its the only one that was actually made to tell jokes and not just very transparent seethe disguised as "humour", so yes
This is honestly less offensive to the Pokemon brand than that fricking manga with Clefairy.
Because I always found her cute and funny. No, really this time. She's adorable and the way she bounced off of Ash and Brock was entertaining as hell. Anon, look at your skin. You're... old.
Yes, me being old is why I hate modern cartoons, that is clearly the problem here and why I idolise cartoons from before my time.
I mean, MAD was mostly low effort rage bait shit, so they don't really have much of a point lmao
It’s called the Mad magazine, what did you expect? It’s in the name
So, they were coping and seething that their gross out shows werent doing pokemon numbers? Glad we're on the same page, boomer-kun!
