Let's be honest, it's a very silly design, and it'd be more fitting for a side character, not the MC, who's supposed to be heavily marketed.

Surprisingly, you cant marry anyone under 18 even if the main character is 17 and the s support is also 17 which is wierd.
The girls are cute but the level of complexity is intimidating to me. I like fire emblem for its simplicity so it's not something I'm planning to play anytime soon.
It is the type of scenario and character writing that should be reserved for low stakes spinoffs. Making it a main series entry just feels like a spit in the face and a waste of a game

Ironically Awakening did that far better. And Fates also prostituted itself out for "remember Marth/Ike/etc????" fanservice as well, but at least it was mainly in the form of DLC.
I don't know why a story with a garbage story but leaning on the memorability of the protagonists of prior games should get any praise for that decision.
Ironically this came directly after 3H which had the most praised story and characters of modern FE, and aside from one Anna inclusion it had zero self-fellating references to earlier games/characters.

Looks/graphics aren't everything in games, but for a titel meant to celebrate the series' history it looks horrible. The emblems were a pretty lame plot device if you ask me and the sleeping thing was just weird. The translation was also really bad.
It had some good maps though, not to mention some old favorites. 9,8/10

The answer is to not skirmish. They are both poorly designed in terms of actually playing, as well as unnecessary and mostly a crutch for bad players, the joke being that skirmishes are more of a punish.

Colgate-san is just the beginning. Majority of the designs are just super over the top or way too ridiculous. Just two examples, but what is up with Ivy and the stupid little hat thing on her head or her sister Hortensia looking like a shitty vtuber? They are fighting a war and they look like fricking clowns. So when a serious moment comes to with these characters and they look like clowns, it's hard to take them seriously.

I genuinely got angry listening to these characters in supports, so much so that I just started skipping them. They all feel so unimportant. They don't add anything to the story. I didn't like TH, but I like that they actually tried to make the supports interesting and let us learn more about the characters. This game just feels like the characters are spamming their one gimmick over and over again. It gets tiring VERY fast.

Engage sold well but ultimately failed to leave a "mark".
Even Fates managed that if only because of godawful it was and because of Camilla's breasts.
Engage was not what the 3h newbies wanted, so they didnt bite. It's sales are thus far more or less in line with awakening and fates, which for a game that is very nuFE but entirely without eugenics is quite appropriate. The game also has legitimate problems which ISIS has no excuse for after how long they had to work on it. the localization censorship is a big deal here, but I doubt it really hurt sales much.
Engage is a campy game that doesn't take the story too seriously and often throws winks and nods in with the tropes. Like there's a literal spotlight on Alear holding a dying Lumera in her arms, it's hilarious.
Unfortunately for Engage, this tone did not go over well with a good chunk of FEgays.
It gave us another e-girl merchant, it can't be that bad.

Gameplay and maps were good but the game doesnt (even try to) leave an impression on you, and instead relies on hackneyed references to previous games for any sort of hook. For all it's faults (and there are a LOT) of them, Awakening, as a celebration of everything the series is, outside of gameplay and ignoring spotpass, outclasses it.
