Look, OP, sugar is nice, but you shouldn't bake a cake with just sugar. If your recipe starts and ends with "how much sucrose can I cram in", what you end up with is diabetes and sadness, not the tastiest thing ever.
Cool for Cool's Sake alone gets you an incoherent mess. It needs other flavors to contrast against, which means that you need to rub 2 braincells together and think about things beyond "yeah this looks hella sweet frick my blood sugar level".

Atlus didn't directly, but there's been 5 official trpg systems released since the 90s. The 4th system (Nocturne: Tokyo Conception) is being localized by LionWing Publishing and is due to release in Q3 of this year.
I'm looking forward to it, but I've already collected and played a ton from the 5th system (Matou Tokyo 200X)
There's a fan made conversion of Monsters and Other Childish Things for Persona called the Velvet book, it has optional rules that are designed to better emulate SMT.

Persona does have an explanation though. There are enemies that won't be hurt by bullets but can be hurt by swords or clubs. Guns can also run out of ammo while melee weapons can't. Lastly, weapons can be magically enhanced, so a magical sword can easily do more damage than a regular gun, and vice versa, making real-world power meaningless.
Also in the realm of the collective unconscious, piritual ability and perceived ability are at least as important as physical ability.

That's the perception part. The shadows see a gun that looks real, and so it functions as real. No attack between personas and shadows is purely physical (nor is it purely spiritual). A real gun and a fake gun that looks like a real gun are both equally effective when you're in the metaverse. A sword and a folding chair are both fine weapons in the hands of someone with the strength of will to make them fine weapons. But you can tip the scales with technology, the Kirijo Group do have materials and processes to make physical weapons more powerful against shadows. If you were deliberately assembling a professional team to go in there, you probably would give them both real guns and functional combat ready swords made with mumbo-jumbo tech, so they still have a chance just in case reality kicks in for some reason.
There are enemies in both 3 and 5 that are immune to piercing damage.

Honestly, because it's incomplete. Swords are in fact cool, but if you're also including cool guns (and there's plenty of cool guns, even as someone who isn't a gungay), give me a reason. I'm pretty willing to accept the reason you give me, but I need something.
