    Because "muh traditions".
Remember to thank Shiggy for that one by the way, wouldn't have had the Two Version israelite without him, and GameFreak would've kept going with single versions until the tech and budget was there to unironically personalize every copy.

Funny to think Pokemon would have also done it this way if they weren't moronic.

Each save file has a different set of exclusive items that you need to trade with other players to get the other ones.
It's like if you started a Pokemon Gen 1 game and instead of getting Electabuzz, Scyther, and Mankey every time your save could have a combination of Magmar, Scyther, and Mankey instead. You'd need to trade with a lot more people to actually find the Pokemon you need for your dex instead of just getting the 2nd version. In Pokemon they could use this to only have 1 version and make those not tied to the save file either super rare like PLA or not show up at all like normal.

I mean, for me, I'm getting both anyway. My gf and I play together and it's fun to decide who gets which version.

Good. But Game Freak won't do that. Why do that when their loyal customers will buy both versions, voluntarily and happily without hesitation and regret. Why only made one when you can "split" it into two, or even three "parts" and get triple the money. At this point, Game Freak is unstoppable and it's the rabid fans that make this happen.
pirate both and play on emulator btw

It sucks and has always sucked. Having three games per region was just a way of milking more money from the consumer. Trading is dumb, and trade evos are cancer that inevitably make getting certain pokemon a pain in the ass once trading is no longer viable (online killed, no one with link cable, etc).

Wasn't BDSP shipped with both versions in each game, just a single line of code that determines which one you're playing? Anyone who defends this shit is beyond cancer. They're about to have 1000 Pokemon, there's no reason we can't just have a single game that randomizes from that pool of Pokemon for each user. Well there is a reason, greed of course.

One version doesn't push the "trading with your friends" angle as hard as two versions with slight differences in pokémon distibution does smooth brain. Thing's still made to gouge money off parents of kids and kids themselves, so small wonder they haven't changed how the money-farming machine runs.

People do realize that double packs are for parents with multiple kids, right? Gamefreak doesnt specifically sell them for weirdos who want to buy two variations of the same game.

These game variations are harmless and mainly serve to encourage trading. Even if you have no friends it's super easy just to trade online with recent games anyways. Dont see the problem

You are tryinf to see them reason, moronic homosexuals here will cry at every oppurtunity over the most trivial shit

Literally just buy one version and trade with others online if you are that desperate to finish some stupis dex. Other than that different versions are the same thing. No one is forcing you gays to buy the two versions.

Nah homie, dual packs have a dual purpose.
One purpose is for multiple-kid families yes, but GameFreak also acknowledges there's a consumerbase that buys dual packs for themselves so they can easily buy both versions in a bundle, and sometimes they'll even buy TWO dual packs so they can have one pair to play, one "to collect".

      >because finding friends to trade with is impossible for them.
If that were the reason for doing it then they'd do

Each save file has a different set of exclusive items that you need to trade with other players to get the other ones.
It's like if you started a Pokemon Gen 1 game and instead of getting Electabuzz, Scyther, and Mankey every time your save could have a combination of Magmar, Scyther, and Mankey instead. instead like they always meant to in Gen 1.
      It's a scam.
