Why do morons not understand the Fallout world was already an apocalyptic shithole BEFORE the bombs fell?
You place way too much attention on the nukes. They only did in hours what would have happened over decades. The fallout world ran out of resources extremely quickly compared to the real world. This already created basically shithole conditions in most of the world.

Nate had power armor training. He was trusted with extremely limited and expensive, high tech equipment. There were millions of U.S. soldiers, so the pool of potential people to give power armor to is huge. He lived in an idyllic high class gated community right near a Vault and had a personal robot butler. The life of Nate and his wife are not compatible to the average people in America.

In retrospect it would be pretty cool to see more pre-war stuff. Specifically showing society crumbling before the bombs dropped.

Many of the terminals talk about economic problems, inflation, people just not being able to get by.
Gets ruined somewhat by the cartoony graphics and atmosphere, but it paints a vivid picture of a society in terminal decline.

Fallout 1/2, 3/4, 76 and the show are so wildly different in settings and tones its hard to pin down any commonality tbh.
1/2 is more a forced setting for scifi tribal apocalypse. The old world doesn't matter that much and its more about the current setting of feral humans trying to survive. 3/4 are what you're describing, its reflective on the capitalist/self destructive world and its consequences.
The show takes 3/4 to the extreme and is just as much about the past as it is the current setting. Its a complete departure from 1/2 and is a much bigger commentary on modern politics.
NV stands out the most because it doesn't tie itself to how the world ended and is purely about how would different groups survive in a post apoc. Although I think the show did a good job capturing this as well and thats why people like it. It has lots of pre war context and post war factionalism so everyone gets a bit of everything.
