It's almost always:
>High-fantasy setting
>Realistic art style
>Divinity-style turn-based combat, RTw/P that plays exactly like DAO, or both
>serviceable music, but not good enough to have people check out the game because it was used in a Youtube video
Seriously, would it kill one of them to do cel-shaded models to look like pulp comics, an adaptation of tab-targeting into s singleplayer game like Xenoblade, or action combat like Ys 8 or Nioh?
>RTwP like DAO
Huh? DAO was very different, at least with its magic, but also abilities. If anything, it felt like a very scuffed version of oldschool WoW
It helps to understand that OP is a gay who hasn't actually played any other western games.
I don't agree. Everyone got obsessed with being freakshit snowflake lately while complaining about white male warriors and everyone complained about fantasy for years so devs started to branch out finally. Postapo and cyberpunk rpg games started releasing in bigger numbers recently and we even, finally will start to get some fricking space games.
>>High-fantasy setting
Because people can't figure out how to do dark fantasy.
art style
It's the current western gaming fad. Like with marvel games or the dogshit Bioware releases.
-style turn-based combat
???
Turn-based combat existed back in ToEE. Along with the icons to tell you the turn order at the top of the screen. I have yet to see any other games with Barrelmancy. Second, the Divinity games used to be real time games. The first turnbased one was in 2015.
that plays exactly like DAO
???
The new RTwP games are more like IWD than DAO as far as how their controls handle. Smoother in the case of Obsidian's games. Very clunky in the case of Owlcat. There's also an obscure one, Serpent in the Staglands, that plays more like IWD/BG. I have yet to see a new RTwP game that plays like DAO.
>Because people can't figure out how to do dark fantasy.
I just want a goddamn game based on Symbaroum. Is that too much to ask?
Games are now conceived in a boardroom full of suits and ~~*marketers*~~ instead of unwashed nerds with a start-up company in a basement.
Isometric Black persondom are purely nostalgia bait first.
I don't think CRPGs really make a dent on AAA level of profits, though. Maybe Original Sin games have changed that, but I doubt it.
>Western RPGs should be more like jarpig action games
Get the frick off this board you anime loving fricking gay
>action games
You can find a balance, like FF7R or Xenoblade.
you have a nice day newhomosexual 9gayger
people like what they know and companies like predictable profit and not risking. Same with many movies
they've always looked the same. westcuckcels have no creativity or personality whatsoever. they could never make anything like kingdom hearts, digimon world or trails.
>nowadays
Stay mad wrpggays
>good enough to have people check out the game because it was used in a Youtube video
That seems oddly specific
Care to give a link?
I'd particularly cite Max0r's Elden Ring video. There's loads of songs from Gacha games with the videos for said songs blowing up after the video did.
>portrait art
kino
>model art
weeb shit
why do developers ruin their game like this?
Budget
Both look meh. Model art is some gaia online-tier western attempt at that look and the portrait looks like a mix of photoshop filters and that homosexual VN style.
The actual environment props look good though.
Because people lash out if it's not.
>can't take any action without a torrent of particle effects flooding the screen
>weapon buffs glow like the sun and obscure the actual model so it looks like you're carrying around a neon cloud
>any gear past vendor trash looks like over the top cosplay
God, I hate this so much.
Super sparkly magic really pisses me off. It ruins games.
A lot of CRPGs are being made by people who played them in the 90s and 00s growing up because that's all they could manage to get in their Slavic put of misery, so now they're making what they know and love even if it feels dated to modern Westerners.
