It used to be called reddit writing until one anon here made a post exposing it as writers copying Joss Whedon style, which got like 50+ replies from people and seething discord shills. Then it became millenial/Whedonesque writing.
Why do so many game stories and dialogues for them fall within this type nowadays?
>millennial type thread
all the best games have already been made everything after the year 2000 is mostly garbage. There are outliers of course but you're gonna be digging through a lot of feces.
I wish israelites were actually as powerful IRL, as you think they are in your pol brain rotted brain, full of nothing but funny jpegs and wanking at some Austrian who was too stupid to learn how to draw properly..
>I wish israelites were actually as powerful IRL
Someone certainly has brainrot. No one in there right mind would wish a supremacist blood cult had power over them.
>No one in there right mind would wish a supremacist blood cult had power over them.
That is what /misc/ wants, they only disagree with the race doing it bro. >When a israelite wins, it is because he used nepotism cheats and trickery, when we win it is because we used natural strength and skill and hard work(lie).
They want the same system, but someone even more moronic in charge.
Pop Culture writing when Gen Y were growing up and Gen X wasn't middle aged yet was oddly anti meta in a very insufferable way. If you weren't around back then you wouldn't understand the kind of enviroment that sparked "millenial" writing as a backlash concious or otherwise.
Basically Western entertainment was the gold standard because America was still a 1st world nation and uh certain people weren't exactly known for creative freedom or vibrancy. This stifiling oddly stilted yet hyper expensive Hollywood culture caused this shit as a backlash
Dunno really how to explain it. Boomer Hollywood execs/writers LA/NY Yuppies if I had to be specific. It was more of an unconcious zeitgeist. Invader Zim wasn't the first but goddamn did it hit hard. There was no self awareness in media.
It's like the feeling when watching certain 90's TV series with the oddly dissonant values and sense of tropes not being tropes but a kind of rigid binding.
Everything was overproduced but souless. This is why I get mad when people call shit like the SMB movie or MK adaptions "soul". Nobody back then saw them that way.
The first examples of "millenial" writing WERE liberating. There was this sense of being able to capture something both impossible and yet archtypical/primal at the same time and push the edge. Ironically enough what we would call soul.
Basically Boomer media was too rigid, Millenieal media is too hollow.
This is an eternal cycle btw. Even post modernism sparked a counter reaction (i.e. New Sincerity) People don't use sarcasm or self depricating humor as much etc.
like if I had to use an example it's like those old Trix The Rabbit commercials or Wiley Coyote cartoons
You always went in your head "what if he got the cereal he deserves the cereal or what if the Coyote caught that annoying goddamn Bird"
"Millineal" writing is nothing but that premise and trying to satisfy that angst. Problem is it's too dissociated and made by people with no life experience to draw upon circle jerking one another
you got it, a more cut and dry explanation would be "you have to grow up big and strong to defend the cereal" and then millenial writing replied with "its okay if youre not strong enough!" but the thing is you actually have to be strong for multiple reasons and they just huddled together in their terrified masses around media that told them theyre allowed to be emotionally fricking bankrupt and awkward and still have their shit unfunny personalities and be absolutely horrendous at interacting with each other.
its not that theyre more accepting its that they dont confront problems in the first place
like if I had to use an example it's like those old Trix The Rabbit commercials or Wiley Coyote cartoons

Origional MK movie was very much liked back then, just not by critics.
The other MK stuff was mainly mocked hard though. I say mainly since I cant remember anyone talking about the cartoon back then.
They're all made by the exact same group of people: 30-somethings living in a big city in the east coast. They all fall within the same type because they all live the same kind of life, with the same kind of obnoxious friend groups, same kind of daily Twiter browsing and same kind of """sense of humor"""
You're fricking moronic. We were teenagers during the 2000, we loved that shit and had to put up with moronic parents who though fictional violence would turn us all into schoolshooters
Because being sincere and sticking to your guns is seen as to risky and embarrassing. It's easier for these hacks to go "Haha, I'm only having this in my story to make fun of it guys! Wow, I guess THAT is just gonna happen huh!?"
They try to get ahead of everyone making fun of their work or making jokes to seem like they get it and are laughing too. STOP being afraid and be as cringe as you wanna be God damnit!
My impression of "millenial writing" is that it stems from a kind of insecurity. Some guy was enjoying games when he was a kid and now he is a big boy and is ashamed of liking stuff he perceives as juvenile. So games need to have self aware quirky humor so the millenial can have the excuse of irony. He knows that the game about alien invasion or zombies or whatever is silly, he is a smart big boy. And the devs know it too, and the game communicates this to the smart boy through it's turbo quirky writing.
>My impression of "millenial writing" is that it stems from a kind of insecurity.
That's all modern writing. Nothing is allowed to be genuine anymore out of fear of ridicule, so it all has to be hidden behind layers of irony.
See ironic weebs. I fricking hate them. >ISEKAI IS BAD >Becomes the most popular shows in the country. >Will only complain about how tropes are bad and other psude takes >Will secretly watch it and hope his san fran youtuber critic "friends" don't find out.
For them, it is all about being seen doing the hobby, and not the hobby itself.
The death of genuine passion and liking hobby's over being seen, is something i cannot stand. The posers won.
It is just a circlejerk of pretentious youtube anime critic takes in any discussion now.
Ironic weebs dont watch anime or play any Japanese as well.
They have 1000 hours in cory in the house and KFC dating sim, spam astolfo porn, watch a stremer play some anime kusoge DUBBED and say annoying shit like ravioli dont lewd dragon e-girl
If you actually watch anime and know what an isekai is, congrats youre in deeper than any ironic weeb
>Gen X does something >FRICKING MILLENNIALS REEE
Protip: For any reasonably big studio only the absolute oldest millennial is going to be lead writer and as such has the final say on the work done under them. The reality is it is Gen X people who are approving this and as such are the ones responsible. Come back in 5-7 years and then it will be the fault of millennials.
You'll also note this sort of writing isn't very common in indie games who are often made by people who fall into the millennial age group.
What the frick are you talking about? Undertale, Omori, FNAF, YIIK, Night in the Woods etc. are filled to the brim with this type of writing, especially when they attempt to be humorous
MCU's weird social club angle bothers me the most. Sure superheroes are allowed to have lives obviously but even that old Hulk show got that Bruce Banner leads a lonely ass life due to being hunted by the gubmint and being a walking disaster area, not giving Yoga tips and wearing a fricking shirt.
Gen Z grew up on a combination of 30 second long tiktoks and 2 hour long youtube infotainment videos, they don't read books, their ability to do creative writing is going to be fricked irreparably.
Actually that's just Gen A, Gen Z grew up with Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitch etc. , Tik Tok is the result of those kids already having fried brains from Web 2.0.
Millenials technically did too to some degree but wouldn't have gotten on the internet till their teens both due to age but also due to some people not even having internet yet.
No spaces for breathing or mood setting. Just constant quick sentences one after another.
This is the generation raised on twitter and tik tok. I can't imagine how pathetic their creative endeavours are going to be.
Because you're a moron who blindly follows whatever social media hate trend is put before you by recommendations.watch_next().
"Millenial writing" was around for decades, is mostly written by gen X and some instances in Ganker sphere are beloved classics on Ganker.
And pretty much all modern examples that support the thesis of "milllenial writing" are just a case of bad comedic structure. They would be equally unfunny with zero popculture references, or if they were as unironic as a 90s christian family sitcom. They have no clear punchlines, no timing, no contrasts. A dialogue between two equally overwritten character instead of just doing a classic "wordy eccentric vs. to the point straightman" duo covers about 90% of the cases.
People just pick out outright bad comedy lines and then project some group they happen on hate it, so they can feel better saying ARRRGH LIBERAL ARTS STUDENTS RUINED COMEDY.
>Hehey, woah! Look at me! I'm putting up a thin veneer of stereotypical coolness in order to hide the fact that I'm an emotionally crippled insecure mess! Aren't I just so ironically cringe! Hehey, woah my dude!
This is the main reason.
Millenials aren't the problem. Do you really think us millenials that grew up in one of the worst fricking times to get ahead are sitting around being in charge of manager positions and executive meddling? No, we're the depressed as frick developers who got into programming and modeling and art because we wanted to make video games like the amazing shit we grew up with and now we have to waste our dream making soulless goyslop for zoomers under the leadership of generation x israelites and other spoiled brats
I blame crooked elites and lgbt lobby. they have seized all means of cultural production. they can literally take your kid away, put you in prison for being "a chud" and switch his/her gender into one of the 50 plus mental illnesses.
I don't even know what this means or who it's mocking
Imagine something created by joss whedon but everyone is ugly and gay
So side-splitting hilarity that's also diverse and inclusive for all audiences? Based.
Wow, the marketing department did its job on you.
(you)
stop it, you're gonna remind him of his family
>something created by joss whedon but everyone is ugly and gay
Why did you write the same thing twice?
You should know by now, like when someone says something is reddit.
OH I get it, its code for "Thing I don't like"
Mostly if not all fan fic tier shit.
It used to be called reddit writing until one anon here made a post exposing it as writers copying Joss Whedon style, which got like 50+ replies from people and seething discord shills. Then it became millenial/Whedonesque writing.

its just borderlands tier dialogue
Wow, just wow
Mayyyybe you should've just shut your mouth and let the grown ups talk, ok? Alright? Good.
nice marvel quip.

We're in late-stage Talmudism, each gen is less refined and more brainwashed than the last.

What type you sperg?

Also Gen X started it. (Invader Zim, Whedon etc)
So you're saying it's an over correction? Can you give me some examples of what it's over correcting from?
Dunno really how to explain it. Boomer Hollywood execs/writers LA/NY Yuppies if I had to be specific. It was more of an unconcious zeitgeist. Invader Zim wasn't the first but goddamn did it hit hard. There was no self awareness in media.

great writeup. Shame about the reddit spacing
People formatted their posts like that since the beginning of Ganker, tourist.

Joss Whedon and the consequences of his success have been a disaster for the human race.
Well, THAT just happened.

Forget those that fought in WW2. The true silent generation was gen X. They're so quiet that everything they do gets blamed on boomers and millennials
Millennials whined about games being "too edgy" in the 2000s and now game devs had to overcorrect.
You're fricking moronic. We were teenagers during the 2000, we loved that shit and had to put up with moronic parents who though fictional violence would turn us all into schoolshooters
Speak for yourself.
This must be the single most moronic thing I've read on Ganker in the last couple of months. Congratulations.
Just feed shit through AI and get a general style to appear that isn't millennial core shit. Simple as.

Vague buzzword that usually just means characters talk like old people trying to sound trendy and the jokes fall flat.
Saying "it's not genuine" is vague bullshit on par with "it insists upon itself".
