Bokoblins used to be natural fauna in Hyrule. Wind Waker and Twilight Princess established they were sapient, if dimwitted and ended up serving major villains due to a "strongest guy is in charge" 'culture'. BOTW and TOTK have retconned them to where they are now synthetic magical golems entirely created by Ganondorf's dark magic.
