I already explained the reason. Its body shape alters so it can support larger heavier shells. Not that hard of a concept to grasp.

Yes, Dewott is a bad design. Samurott was created first, the only thing Dewott did to bridge the gap was becoming blue.

Skeledirge is awesome though? It doesn't even ditch everything from its past design. The bird literally hatches from the egg on Crocalor's head.the nest is no longer needed to it goes away. Crocalor also had 2 of those square tags under its eyes. Skeledirge just had more of them. Skeledirge keeps the beak Crocalor has aswell. Also Skeledirge just looks dangerous and animalistic. It's nice when compared to the more humanoid final evolutions of the other 2 starters in gen 9.
