SOTN is overrated though and the indie gaming scene took the worst things from it. Do you know what SOTN introduced to Castlevania? Grinding, and that's it. Castlevania already had stellar art direction, great 2D movement and combat mechanics / enemy and boss design, and sprawling, diverse environments to play through. SOTN took all that and made the map "non-linear" and in order to facilitate exploration added a leveling system and RNG which really only made the experience grindier (and also easier compared to the previous games since the non-linearity kind of forced the level design / enemy placement to become more symmetrical / repetitive and thus simpler / dumber).
I say the above while also being someone who reached 200.6% map completion and 100% bestiary completion as a kid. What I realized later on was that it was only because I liked controlling Alucard and being in the Castlevania setting that I did those things, something that indie devs don't seem to understand, because their games have inferior art direction while still pushing the grindy shit.
