Pokemon games are still some of the best games you can actually play on an emulator and up until like 3-4 years ago the GBA games were the most easily accessible. I'd go as far to say that they still are, even on modern hardware you're limited to playing the DS games at base speed rather than turboing through the GBA games.
I started playing Pokemon when I was 3, my first games were Ruby and Fire Red. I'm 24 now.
Oddly enough its a response to ORAS and BDSP criticism. The idea is to suggest that remakes were never good, therefore we shouldn't complain about the slop we just received. Nobody had a bad word to say about FRLG before then.

The Sevii Islands fleshed out the original games. The only real complaint one could have is the cross-gen evolutions, but honestly, beating the main campaign and catching 60 pokemon is nothing and you're just reaching for excuses.
Gen 6 babies want to pretend that ORAS was the best remake. Their first step is trying to position ORAS as better than FRLG. The best thing to do is to stop their raiding.

Frlg is objectively great, introduced E4 rematches and the vs seeker, bigger bag than even Emerald, and it was the first game where you would naturally go over level 50 without grinding thanks to its post game. In fact it pretty much introduced the concept of post game areas to the franchise, since in Johto Kanto was kind of treated as part of the main campaign, which is why you will be level 37 at the league in Johto compared to 45 in Kanto and Hoenn.
