Why do you have to grind every time you attempt a boss? I didn't have to do this in dark souls.

Experimenting against bosses is fun and you're discouraged from doing that in this game

just kill ghosts at listening hall f1 and buy enough vials to challenge the boss 5 times.

    Just do the Chalice dungeons.

Get to the alien spore mushroom type dungeon and on like level 2 or 3 you can start grinding fast.

It's dumb and worse than Estus by a mile but here's how you do it
    >never ever ever bother with chalice dungeons, total waste of time that will drain your blood vials
    >every time you level up, always spend your leftover echoes on blood vials
    >put a lot of points into vitality so you're tankier
    >clear out enemies thoroughly the first time you go through an area
You should have enough blood vials to get by.

The best grinding areas, if you're the type who needs to purchase vials, are in the chalice dungeons.

The issue isn't the difficulty. It's actually quite nice. The issue is being forced to grind in an arpg.

spawn at the yharnam bridge where cleric beast was
kill the ogre and crows, the 2 wolves, and the guy leading into the house
kill everyone in the house and go out the right door downstairs, kill the 2 ogres and reverse back to central yharnam lamp. repeat. you should get at least 12 vials if not more in a matter of like 2 minutes

This glyph isn't a grind either. You walk in, wait a few seconds, get 80k leave and repeat. Even better if you have a few moon runes.

I understand Blood Vials more going through my second playthrough and not having to use a lamp to refresh healing, you can just keep going and it feels great. At the same time it only feels great because stopping at the lamp means sitting through two loading screens and I wonder if part of this is a chicken and egg thing where they decided you HAD to teleport back to the hub to level up and that's where the idea for making healing drop from enemies instead came from.

I will say Bloodborne is by far the worst at teaching the player, it has the hardest opening, lacks an intro area like the rest of the series, and it might take a whole playthrough to understand how aggressive the game actually expects you to be against bosses since enemy encounters and basic Souls knowledge can feel like it encourages the opposite. Also, playing DS3 makes me question if Bloodborne really is only harder because the framerate sucks ass.

Why does everybody have a different opinion on bloodborne's difficulty? Some say it's demon's souls-tier and you just implied that it's harder than ds3.

Part of it is weapon choice (seriously, as someone who originally chose the cane I have no idea why it's there, it is horrendous at teaching you how to play compared to the Hunter Axe or Saw Cleaver), part of it is not understanding how to abuse the parry system or rallying, some bosses really frick with the camera so if you have issues with that the beasts will annoy you to no end, and again I really think the performance makes the game substantially harder if you are used to the others.

Full disclaimer, I've had playthroughs where I've only died a handful of times, mostly to the first DLC boss, and I've still never beat Orphan of Kos, don't care what anyone says, he's horseshit. Maybe if I did all the Chalice Dungeons I'd be overleveled enough but those suck too, every goddamn playthrough his Placenta attack glitches out and oneshots me and I just go beat the final boss instead.

Cane is great! It's just when the option is between the whip or the Spin to Win Axe one is going to be better for new players learning the game.

You don't have to grind. If you are having a shit time with a boss stop mashing the heal button because it is leaving you open and they are reacting to it. Try to figure out the move that keeps hitting you. Die a few times not even fighting, just try to observe and avoid everything that gets thrown at you. Also learn which attacks leave the boss wide open, those are your opportunities to heal/buff/do some damage. People confuse their game for being hard, but they proceed to turn their brain off and just trade hits until they or the boss dies.
