The point of a role playing games is your actions have a direct effect on how the story unfolds leading to any number of endings based on how you decide to play the game. You don't have anywhere close to that level of freedom in mainline pokemon games. Escapism and self inserting is fine but you can do that in any game, what actual role playing are you doing in Pokemon?
