The real question is why do you want everyone to love them so much? People don't hate them, usually some fanboy will make a thinly veiled console war thread, get called out and exposed, and then get butthurt and think everyone hates his beloved brand.
Because they are the least deserving of success but they act like they are the golden standard. I can calmly give them respect for the success of PS1 and PS2, even though PS2 success was driven by the DVD player they backed it up with lots of good games. Literally everything they've done since PS2 has been a failure, or it's a success only because they were the least failing console during a time when Nintendo and Microsoft were doing everything they could to fail. In short, Nintendo and Microsofts short comings are Sony's success.
