Hardware wasn't just PCs
It was no-nonsense, shove that cartridge in there and play, no dumb menuing, no fricking ads, nothing like that
Developers were plenty creative about how to get shit working on hardware so simplistic that no one would think doable

There are plenty of good games out there in the 10s and 20s,just stop chasing after shit like Cyberpunk. Play more "small time" games like Cyber Shadow,Burnhouse Lane, Abbadon Princess of Decay,Ariadne and so on. You won't be disappointed.

Back then gaming was a somewhat gatekept and exclusive community and the games were made for actual nerds. And by back then I mean 80s and 90s. 00s was when everything went to shit already.
00s > 90s > 10s > 80s > 20s
the 90s was very creative but the 00s refined it into great final products.
10s was the introduction of social media and more predatory ways to monetize creativity .
I do believe we are living through a creatively bankrupt decade. a creative dark age, not just vidya but every medium, TV, film.
partly corporate greed partly because writers, artists and directors/producers are just not that good.
