It was the least popular of the PS1 games and one of the least remembered of the franchise overall until internet contrarians managed to convince people a cutesy art style is all it takes to be a good game. I'd expect 4, 6, or 10 or even 8 to get a full remake before 9.
I think it's you who's living in a cave, "bro".
Turns out that it was actually a "sequel", and if you expected or wanted it to be a faithful remake you're dumb and what you wanted was boring and nobody really wanted it, despite shelling out $ 70 in advance to play it before they knew it wasn't a remake.
It's a shitty reimagining of the entire FF7 saga. The only wrench being thrown into the spanner is that they, the writers, as stupid as they are, wanted Zack to be more involved in the story. And thus, they decided to throw a ghost of fate so that Zack lives on, so that he could be involved in the FF7 story. It's not a sequel. You're actually giving the writers more credit than they deserve by calling it that. Twats on the internet strongly believe there are two timelines are morons. There is one timeline. Difference is, the writers decided to drag Zack into the fold because they thought, why not give Zack more screentime for no reason other than fanservice.

Its strongly implied that Sephiroth, Aerith, and to a much lesser extent Cloud have memories from the original timeline, thus it would be a sequel.
Also the most recent trailer ends with Sephiroth talking about the worlds merging.
>managed to convince people a cutesy art style is all it takes to be a good game
Anon, two things:
1. You literally have not been alive long enough to even have played FF7, much less have any fake nostalgic fondness for it. And anyone who DID play it remembers how it was only popular in the US because 10 year old kids who were watching Dragonball Z on Toonami thought it was a real story.
2. Literally everything about FF9 is better than FF7 and 8 in every measurable way. That's not even an opinion, it's an objective and unbiased assessment of reality.
>2. Literally everything about FF9 is better than FF7 and 8 in every measurable way.
You're completely, and I do mean COMPLETELY, mentally deranged.
Everything about the battles in FF9 is orders of magnitude worse than most JRPGs in general, let alone FF7. Pacing, usefulness of spells and skills, general sluggishness, the trance system and so on.
Everything about how the game swaps your party at random hours and hours into the game, robbing you of pieces of equipment you were trying to teach your whole party is terrible. The way you manage who is or isn't in your party HALFWAY THROUGH THE GAME is handled worse than it was in FF7 WHEN YOU LEFT MIDGAR.
The game is RIFE with stuff you can miss for the stupidest, most bullshit reasons possible, and the game punishes you for being careful and checking every spot by locking a final weapon behind a time limit.
The minigames are utter dogshit across the board, and if you try to compare FF9's chocobos in a positive light compared to FF7 you need to get institutionalized.
All of this stuff is almost measurably worse. You're free to enjoy the plot and characters of FF9 better, but you're sick in the head if you think that FF9 has ANYTHING over FF7 mechanically.
That game is full of stuff that is pretty fricking bullshit, it's all a matter of what you care about.
The moogle net system is rife with moments where you get one chance to backtrack for no reason to find a moogle that popped out of nowhere, or decided for no reason that he'll give you a letter that he wouldn't before.
It's basically Zodiac Spear: The Game. I get that the Zodiac Spear is especially arbitrary and basically impossible to know unless you read it up, but it's also just one weapon and you can get a different one elsewhere.
FF9 is a game which r.ddit hipsters and MMO trannies pretend to like because they think it makes them have a "cultured taste" it's a shit game and easily one of the worst FF games, there is no "return to form". FF9 pretends to be something it isn't, just like trannies and that's why they like it so much
My theory is that it original was supposed to be a lazy remaster like FF8 and it was half done, but when it got leaked, the growing hype around FF9 was getting a remake made them change plans and actually work on a proper remake and that is why it's taking so long.
Did everyone just forget that IX got a remaster before VIII?
IX was the actual lazy remaster. They tried to put effort into VIII and made it arguably worse.
Also keep in mind that this is the company who has publicly berated fans for asking them to do something with the Chrono license because "you should have bought more". I don't think they care about "growing hype" and public sentiment when it comes to the lowest selling PS1 Final Fantasy. There's gotta be another reason for it.
Has anyone ever thought about how the Squall/Rinoa romance gets so much shit for allegedly having a "180 turnaround" on disk 3, when it actually has much more thorough build up and exploration of the resistant character's feelings than the Zidane/Garnet romance which is also completely one-sided until disc 3 when Eiko forces Dagger to actually think about it and stop treating Zidane like a tool to be used for the first time in the game?
I just thought that was weird.
I think the key difference is that society has conditioned us to believe that the male is supposed to be the pursuer, so Squall acting like a b***h doesn't sit as well with us as Garnet acting like a b***h.
But at the same time the extent of Garnet/Zidane relationship for the vast majority of the game is Zidane being a womanizing sex pest who even gets her mixed up with a bar floozy at one point, so it really shouldn't get that pass anyway.
The only actually good romance is Tidus and Yuna. Mutual attraction and unconditional affection from day one. Similar interests and shared acquaintances to bond over. Each one has a trait that the other wishes they had and are thus attracted to in a partner.
Well no one played FF8 long enough to get to disc 3, so no. I'm pretty sure most people quit in the first minute when the game said "You are an agent S.E.E.D. from the organization G.A.R.D.E.N.... GET IT? GET THE JOKE???"
>Zidane/Garnet romance which is also completely one-sided until disc 3
Fricking thank you! Everytime I reached the ending of 9, I'm puzzled watching the scene plays out. Like, when did these two has such strong romantic relation to each other. Zidane and Garnet barely had any romantic moment they shared apart from that one scene in Lindblum when she was humming a song. The marriage at Condo Petie? Hardly felt romantic to me. Zidane always tried to flirt but Garnet barely responds positively towards his approaches.
Squre is going to remake anything they think will sell.
FF9 was well enough received to warrent think treatment

What about 7?
They are remaking 7 right now bro do you live in a cave.
They're not remaking 7, they're making a spin-off that exists in the same fanfiction universe.

The materia system is superior and 7's combat pacing is slightly better.
I agree with the materia part. the combat feels about the same in all honesty, but i like the ability progression in 9 better.
they're both shit in comparison to the combat system of X-2 though.

Getting Excalibur 2 is pretty fricking bullshit to be honest.

because 8 is garbage

lolwhat
you're mixing up 9 and 8.

Scariest final boss ever! Not only in appereance...
Probably because they've talked about straight up remake ruining both 5 and 9 in interviews.

Because remakes exists to make good games shit, not shit games good.
anyone who defends FF9 is a tasteless furhomosexual subhuman
Because it's been confirmed for years. Why do you think they're making a sequel tie-in cartoon 20+ years later?
