Because the bosses after don't reach the peak of O&S
>four kings
Dps shit fest boring as frick
>bed of chaos
Worst boss fromsoft has ever made
>nito
Ok
>sneedthe
Ok

But every boss before O&S was shit as well excluding maybe gargoyles? If you like DS1 it can’t be because of the bosses or even combat, that stuff didn’t get good until 3 (or BB)

Gargoyles is the worst fight before ornstein and snough though.

Capra Demon?

3 has the worst combat. It's a mash fest.

Anonymous

Then the combat never got good? Because Elden ring is just as mashy due to ashes and jump attacks, while Bloodborne encourages mashing through the health regain mechanic
The only souls like with good combat is Lies of P
It was good in 2 until this series just turned into dynasty warriors

Four kings on ng+ with meme builds is ridiculous. It's actually not dps, but not getting hit at all. Had to beat them perfectly, as they one shot me.

Glad I never beat them. I experienced the best the series had to offer and can move on with life.

Because after Anor Londo you have only "Major Boss" locations left - and this locations is more centered about the boss itself. And some of locations were finished in a hurry after budget has run out, everything surrounding Bed of Chaos, for example.

Later areas lack the interconnectivity of the early game locations, but most of them are still interesting
The sole exception is Lost Izalith which bombards you with eye-raping colors and the laziest enemy placement in the entire series (just copy 6 centipede and 4 capras next to each other lmao)

I did. Fight is shit. Pretty much all fights are shit in ds1 nowadays.

Underwhelming and largely short (save for Seathe) branches thereafter/ It's not really bad but it's clear fall-off. Also the final areas are more frustrating than fun.

The space is too narrow and they fall off the level constantly. They're trivially easy with a poise and bonk build and then the hardest thing in the game if you're just using a straight sword.

You have to go in the big skeleton box now

Nah Tomb of the Giants is one of the most unforgetable places in the entire game for both the right and wrong reasons
The journey to Nito genuinely feels like a trio to the bottom of the earth where every step is treacherous and everything wants you dead

Its because the scope of the world starts to diminish. Every souls game has a point where the world starts to feel smaller as you explore, rather than bigger. Its why (outside of bossfight autists), souls earlygame > endgame

Because every other boss is worse not only than O&S, but worse than average bosses, with only Centipede Demon being "okay" if you ignore his gimmick.
Because Tomb of the Giants, Lost Izaleth, and New Londo are all blatantly unfinished and rushed, with terrible enemy placement and area design.
Because Fromsoft has always sucked when it comes to scaling things as the game goes on, and this is the worst in DS1.
Because these areas lack the main redeeming feature of DS1, that being the interconnected world. All of them are dead ends, and three of them stretch plausibility of world design, with only Seath' place making sense.

Duke's Archives are fine. The other three are rancid piss.

The actual level design of Dark Souls isn't very good, but everyone gets hung up on elevators and doors that connect to other areas as if it's some amazing feat (and there aren't even that many examples of this in the game).

The latter half of the game just isn’t as interconnected as the beginning. Gaining the ability to teleport after obtaining the Lordvessel comes across to me as a decision that was made to meet the level design halfway.
There’s still a lot of cool shit after Anor Londo in the base game imo. The Duke’s Archives, the Tomb of Giants and of course the Kiln of the First Flame were all very cool. The DLC also has a bunch of the best stuff in the whole game.

O&S seems relatively tame compare to modern fromsoft bosses.

On SL1, Anor Londo is where the game starts being good.

new londo's underwater area was one of the most disappointing reveals I've ever felt in vidya. there's barely anything down there. should have been way bigger

17. 2 months ago
Anonymous

The only people who say that are nu souls fans who think any sort of gimmick or deviation is bad. The only bad area is Izalith, all the other lordvessel areas are great

18. 2 months ago

Because the sense of exploration and discovery in a great journey is replaced with a Megaman boss stage selection

Because nothing good stays good. Games, TV shows, movies, books, relationships, drugs. Everything you ever do will peak at some point and then every succeeding moment will be a chase for that again or out of respect of the memory of it
