      >background is literally pasted stretched out textures that look like ps1 graphics
      >NPCs are clearly not designed by the same person and look completely out of place

It's not even just the textures, too. The art direction is complete garbage in most of the game.

Is that ps4 screenhot? I don't remember seeing such shitty textures when I played it on pc

I think PS5 and PC have upgraded textures. I barely noticed anything too bad apart from this frick and

I really enjoyed it but it's kinda fricked up too. I think picrel is just a bug, I probably could have reloaded the save and it would be fine.
But I agree many npcs and much of the daytime lighting looks like horse shit.
It looks quite FF7y when you're in the dark, Mako reactors, Shinra building, etc. But they missed the mark in the slums.

which just seems like a bug.

they didn't keep to the aesthtic style the originally itended

if you watch the pre-rendered opening movie all the fashion is early 20th century. Obviously at some point during development there was a shift and new assets were made in the style of FFXV's contemporary street fashion.

Probably when they brought Toriyama in.

Isn't the entire conversation with Barret in the train about how people on the plate get the sun and people underneath live in the dark day and night? So why is there daylight at all in the slums with that giant artificial light at some point?

Bad retcon. I wouldn't even mind it if it actually looked good, but it doesn't.

There's a conversation about how they are subject to Shinra unless they want to live in the dark, not that they live in the dark day and night. Theres daylight in the slums when you're playing because the main sector the game takes place in isn't finished with the construction of the plate, and the entire fricking next plate over collapsed.

This, just finished my first PC playthrough and it was SIGNIFICANTLY more stable and more visually cohesive than on the PS5.
I think they pulled the whole "focus all the limited graphics power on the main characters since people will ignore the rest" shit that JP developers love to do.

That's because they fixed it (mostly) for PC. The bad textures are from the OG PS4 version

As much as they modernise the design of the main cast they're still 90s designs at heart and they clash hard with the modern sterile design

Looks like they were bought from the Unreal store. The art direction is all over the place.
    >these characters live in the slums, dirt and garbage everywhere, not a clean surface for miles
    >NPC's look like like they'd star in a Starbucks commercial

Because all the NPCs look realistic while the main characters look anime
I don't know why SE keeps doing this, trying to force the realistic look on the rest of the world while keeping their anime MCs
Just have the world be stylized too

Because CC2 fricked around for so long and burned so much money that SE told them to frick off and that they're doing everything in house.
Which means they had to cut a lot of corners like adding in random unity-store-asset-levels of NPCs everywhere, and having some sections of the world look like a PS3 game.

IMO those couple of areas are worth looking bland as shit if it means we get the gorgeous areas like Aeris' house, Hojos lab, Wall market, the entire Shinra Tower, etc etc.

Even some of the new important characters look fitting for FF7. But whenever it's some side quest giver, it looks like shit. But it's jarring because they go a little bit beyond just generic fetch quest dialog, and have relationships with the main characters.
It would somehow feel less bad if you entered a random city like, for example, Kalm where none of the main cast lived, and there are a bunch of generic NPCs asking you to go around killing monsters or something.
But in OP's pic, there's just some really low quality generic black lady that knows Aerith very well since she lives right around the corner. It was worth putting more effort into making that character look good.

      >It was worth putting more effort into making that character look good.
No it wasn't because she has approximately 2 minutes of screen time and then fricks off to be a regular non-interactable NPC.

I hate nitpicking homosexuals so much it's unreal. FF7R was fun af and waa a great blend of nostalgia trip and more modern gameplay.

Only TORtanic gigahomosexuals are still seething about it.

I loved every second of it, except Shinra HQ onwards. I still thoroughly enjoyed it, but I'm glad they have at least shown people that they intend to do the new pseudo-timeline story going forward. It means I don't have to even play the others and can just stop.

Also your webm is just highlighting another flaw in the game.

I'm in the same boat as you. Played it day 1 on PS4. It has it's issues, but that didn't stop me from grinning like an idiot the entire fricking playthrough.
Except Hojos lab where you have to keep switching back and forth, and the crane hand minipuzzle, frick those sections

If it took generic NPCs to avoid these shitty ass designs then I won't complain.
