FFXIV isn’t attracting many new younger users. It’s basically been the same pool of people on /xivg/ for half a decade now. Used to be so much better 10 years ago. There were very active meetup threads for most regions and major Eorzean city-states. Playerbase was mainly weird/weeb/nerdy catboys who were semi outcasts but still cool and harmless. Not violent trans femra incels like today. Met up with several femra between 2011-2014 who were pretty nerdy like me and had some fun. Now all the femra here are psychotic, potentially dangerous, and/or troonys.
Additionally most of the women still playing this game are probably like me. 30 year old middie with EB and/or kids now.
The game is dying, particularly since Nobuaki Komoto left. The player base is shrinking and there hasn’t been effective moderation, good jobs, balance changes or updates to the game in over a decade.
It’s probably for the best, but still very sad to see.

I completed Dalriada for the first time last week, and BA for the first time in September, didn't have any trouble running them. I can queue eden or omega raids that show up in my WT and get a party in 5-10 minutes depending on time of day. A friend in my FC spams frontlines for hours every day to grind wins, and I usually see him queueing for 10 minutes at most, and only a few minutes at prime time. It would take a lot of unsubbing to get to the level of the AU DC where they the queues are ACTUALLY dead and they have to run their story dungeons/trials in PF.

AST is getting a rework and it's in the same boat of being a very strong healer, Monk was strong during Stormblood too and it was also just a fricking mess. ARR jobs in general desperately all need a rework and I think have only avoided it because even bigger messes like Heavensward jobs filled the void.
I still cannot understand why they refuse to bring back aero 3 despite people loudly missing it, but insist that holy's stun is 'integral' to the job's image, despite it completely fricking with initial tank mitigations and especially TBN.
I personally mald about the thematic awfulness of Y'shtola and Red Mage having access to Aero 3 and/or Tornado, while White Mage itself doesn't get it.

That said it's baffling that WHM lost its Tornado analogue, a traditional spell, but gained a new water spell with Aquaveil.

For me it's how they've never given RDM an ice spell. You could argue vercure is water themed, but there's no ice anywhere. You could say the same for dark too, considering there's holy but no dark equivalent.

I do absolutely like the idea of the Scions having their own skills and spells that differentiate from WoL, mainly so the game isn't really just "Superman and the rest of the losers who get to play when he's holding back". But the wind spells situation is not how they should go about it. More on the lines of Estinien's Nidhogg abilities, or Thancred being a sneaky c**t even as a tank. If anything, it'd be sick to see Y'shtola use her cutscene spells in battles, like summoning nixies or enchanting inert objects to fight by themselves as a DoT unique to herself.

DoT that applied to target + surrounding enemies, used holy's cast wind-up animation (floating in air) but had a unique staff spin animation. can probably skillswap glare or holy's animation over to aero 3's

Casted AoE dot that stacked with both aero 2 (at the time, a hardcast dot) and aero (basically dia). It looked frickin cool.

i'm actually torn on this. my class, white mage, has a few pretty potent abilities in pvp, ie the polymorph and afflatus purgation. the former isn't going to be useful in the slightest in normal pve, maybe as a pinch interrupt/stun in DD or something. purgation fits well with the cleric fantasy of whtie mage, though ffxiv white mages aren't clerics, they're closer to druids that use light when they get really powerful.
then there's seraph strike, which i actually have a gameplay issue with. its a great ability. the healing potency up buff, the free cure 3, the dps aura, all fit the class flavor imo, but the gap closer doesn't. if it were just a powerful melee ability i'd be fine with it.

its because that the NN was designed to be player controlled from the start. which is why everyone has a gun so to speak. problem is is that banning them for 3 hours doesn't actually do anything and you need a LOT of people to tamp down those types, because if you don't reban them the instant they are able to rejoin then they can shoot off several themselves

I completed Dalriada for the first time last week, and BA for the first time in September, didn't have any trouble running them. I can queue eden or omega raids that show up in my WT and get a party in 5-10 minutes depending on time of day. A friend in my FC spams frontlines for hours every day to grind wins, and I usually see him queueing for 10 minutes at most, and only a few minutes at prime time. It would take a lot of unsubbing to get to the level of the AU DC where they the queues are ACTUALLY dead and they have to run their story dungeons/trials in PF.

Everyone got big flashy reskinned damage moves and SCH quietly got the modest-looking partywide sprint.
It sucks because SCH is such a stilted mess of the old and new, but they'll never change it because by the numbers they're just too strong.
AST is getting a rework and it's in the same boat of being a very strong healer, Monk was strong during Stormblood too and it was also just a fricking mess. ARR jobs in general desperately all need a rework and I think have only avoided it because even bigger messes like Heavensward jobs filled the void.
I still cannot understand why they refuse to bring back aero 3 despite people loudly missing it, but insist that holy's stun is 'integral' to the job's image, despite it completely fricking with initial tank mitigations and especially TBN.
I personally mald about the thematic awfulness of Y'shtola and Red Mage having access to Aero 3 and/or Tornado, while White Mage itself doesn't get it.
White Mage is just kind of a mess, thematically. And they have Y'shtola here proving that you don't actually need to stick to a strict "My job stone told me to do this so I do this and only this" regime, so I have no idea why they won't just let players cast it.
I like that in the sense that WoL is learning and coming up with very different things from what the Scions are, including Estinien and how different his Dragoon is from WoL's with all the Nidhogg shit in it. That said it's baffling that WHM lost its Tornado analogue, a traditional spell, but gained a new water spell with Aquaveil.
For me it's how they've never given RDM an ice spell. You could argue vercure is water themed, but there's no ice anywhere. You could say the same for dark too, considering there's holy but no dark equivalent.
It's already a pretty goddamned big tradition break to give RDM Flare, Holy and tier 3 spells, I'd kill for Verblizzard or Verglare/Verdia, and something like a Xenoglossy equivalent (obviously not something you plink after a stack builds up like BLM)
I do absolutely like the idea of the Scions having their own skills and spells that differentiate from WoL, mainly so the game isn't really just "Superman and the rest of the losers who get to play when he's holding back". But the wind spells situation is not how they should go about it. More on the lines of Estinien's Nidhogg abilities, or Thancred being a sneaky c**t even as a tank. If anything, it'd be sick to see Y'shtola use her cutscene spells in battles, like summoning nixies or enchanting inert objects to fight by themselves as a DoT unique to herself.

I would like to see some pvp abilities included in pve.
i'm actually torn on this. my class, white mage, has a few pretty potent abilities in pvp, ie the polymorph and afflatus purgation. the former isn't going to be useful in the slightest in normal pve, maybe as a pinch interrupt/stun in DD or something. purgation fits well with the cleric fantasy of whtie mage, though ffxiv white mages aren't clerics, they're closer to druids that use light when they get really powerful.
then there's seraph strike, which i actually have a gameplay issue with. its a great ability. the healing potency up buff, the free cure 3, the dps aura, all fit the class flavor imo, but the gap closer doesn't. if it were just a powerful melee ability i'd be fine with it.
