Whoever did the models for PLA needs to be doing the models for the main games, and whoever did them for SV needs to be fired.
I thought it was because TPC wanted to match Ken Sugimori's modern pokemon designs, they seems to be matching with his work
Are you moronic? What arbitrary reason should the models follow the 20 year old artwork for?
They're just filters. I always thought it was funny how they were bragging about using filters but based on the reaction it makes sense why the simple minded are impressed.
Well no, if you rip the models directly the actual colors on them are very different.
>the actual colors on them are very different
From how they show up in the game because of filters?.. Yes. I can't believe you are arguing against the people who actually made the game, it's their presentation.
Doesn't the image disprove your post Anon?
The textures are saturated on the left and they're satured in-game too (hell they're actually slightly desaturated)
I don't know Anon, the people who made the game are saying they use the same models and make the games look different with filters but you can go ask them yourself.
Anon discovers post-processing.
Why is Electrode's menu sprite different to its model colour?
Why is it pink?!?!?
hope this helps
Masuda said when working on XY they wanted to make the 3D models look like the Sugimori artwork, the official art has always been the accurate colors.
It looks moronic though. Electrode shouldn't be pink. Masuda is a moronic nostalgia-blinded hack. Sugimori is a moron.
that many bright colors all moving around in the overworld would look bad, they'd look like toys stapled onto the terrain.
Yeah, I forgot animals don't have bright colors.
Ok, so, every Pokémon past Gen 5 should be deleted then?
>so, every Pokémon past Gen 5 should be deleted then?
be careful, you might not like my answer
>they'd look like toys stapled onto the terrain
...they already do.
Also remember the old sprites were designed for screens that look more washed out.
Also remember the Sugimori art (any concept art really) was designed to be mostly on white backgrounds and demonstrated a Pokemon with maximum light shining on it.
>Sugimori is a moron.
>so basically, ken needs to die
why is this Ken Sugimori's fault when he was simply doing a less saturated art style at the time. He didn't say "hey, color match everything I do exactly unless it's my earlier art of Jynx"
Maybe they shouldn't be using water color renditions of pokemon for how they should actually look.
>pokeballs are white and red
>electrode, the pokeball mimic pokemon, is white and kinda pink
so basically, ken needs to die
>modern pokemon designs

Sugimori Official Artwork colors
>Why is it pink?!?!?
He's horny
reminder that people who whine about desaturation use fanfiction colors for their argument
I never understood this argument.
1. The desaturated versions ALWAYS look worse than the saturated versions, as proven by the examples in this thread.
2. The official art was drawn 2 decades ago long before they ever considered switching to 3D models for the main series.
3. Almost every other form of media (anime, TCG, side games, etc.) ignores the official art colours. For example, New Snap used saturated colours for their models. Even Go, which uses the game models, sometimes uses more saturated colours.
>as proven by the examples in this thread
The same examples that are always posted. No one cares about your cherry picked complaints.
>official art
>how it's supposed to look like
1. wrong
2. who cares what it's "supposed to" look like? I care about quality over creator intent because I'm not a moron
>the official illustration is wrong thats why they used those colors when they remade all the Pokemon for 3D
>the official illustration is wrong thats why they used those colors when they remade all the Pokemon for 3D
Yes. They made the wrong decision.
Saturated model looks infinitely better.
the official illustration is wrong because it was made far after Gengar had an established look at retconned it
Gengar got ruined after Gen 2
I hate what they did to Swampert, holy shit. How the frick has GAME FREAK not realised people don't want the Sugimori colours after a fricking decade?
Left: Swampert's menu sprite in SV
Center: Swampert's model in Unite
Right: Swampert's model in SV
Swampert isn't in Unite?
My bad, that image is a fan mockup.
But that makes my point even stronger. Unofficial, more saturated colours for the old Pokémon is superior to following artwork made 20 years ago not designed for the 3D games.
That artwork from 20 years ago is still used today
>games directed by the lead team and Ohmori use shit "faithful" colors
>games directed by the secondary team use the brighter colors
B team chads, we can't stop winning.
Where the frick did you get a “”SwSH model”” for Paras and Parasect considering that those don’t exist?
SwSh and BDSP use the same models and palletes, just with a different renderer. It's not disingenous to list BDSP exclusives under "SwSh" or vice versa.
I know you SWSHills don't like this but BDSP was very much in the SWSHit style.
Electrode isn’t in Sword and Shield though?
Why does everything in Pokemon look so disgustingly washed out
The Masuda's A team said they wanted to be "faithful to Sugimori's watercolor" and desaturated the colors, the B team uses the normal more saturated colors like the older games
So it’s obvious people prefer the more saturated and vibrant looking colors. And the comparison with Legends Arceus proves they can still use the vibrant colors if they want. Basically comes to art direction of the games
i haven't bought any of the switch titles other than PLA
>Unsaturated is better
Biggest cuck opinion I've ever seen.
>cuck expert
Congrats.
>cuck expert
That would be you wienersucking worse colors pretending they’re better.
We know for a fact they’re lying because of other tweaks in the models, such as texturing. Colors also would naturally be altered slightly between games. There’s no way to apply a filter that magically shifts every color in a model to match the sprites, as they would all change different amounts.
sure thing bud
You realize that doesn’t disprove my post, right?
>reee anyone that insults me is the same person that I'm seething over
kek kys
Who are you even quoting, schizo? Seems no one can respond to my post properly without pretending I accused them of samegayging when I didn't.
>That would be you wienersucking worse colors pretending they’re better.
I don't know if you need psychiatric or literacy assistance.
Prove it's not the same person then. Post a screenshot within three minutes or else it's edited.
LGPE was also pretty vibrant
You're obviously a NEET, you wouldn't understand.
holy autism, batman
They keep switching artstyles because they know if another game has the exact same style people would complain why they didn’t port Pokemon over and so they keep making model textures to excuse them from doing so
Pla was original model work the others have been confirmed ported from 3DS/new snap.
wrong
SV is so fricking ugly
Different teams fighting over what the pokemon should look like I'm sure
One team realizes they look better with their sprite coloration, the other hangs onto the autistic official art thing
PLA Gengar is easily the best one.
LGPE - To look like the anime
SWSH - To look like the sugimori art
PLA - To look like Japanese artwork
SV - To look like shit like the rest of the graphics.
>SV
>old pokemon look desaturated
>new pokemon look oversatured
What is going on with the quality control?
NGL I wouldn't mind if they leaned even harder into the Sugimori artstyle and gave the textures a subtle watercolour effect, really aiming for a "3D painting" vibe. Would be pretty cool, and certainly preferable to SV's dogshit "realism" style.
