It's not like you dipshits run bethesda's garbage totally vanilla right? Fallout 3 can't even fricking boot without mods, and every one of these games needs an unofficial patch to unfrick the scripts on ~10% of the quests and locations.
You can by the original thief and system shock games on steam. You can buy Gothic 1 and 2 and Arx Fatalis. You try to play that shit out of the box with no tweaks or mods.
Contractual obligations, probably. Or just the lack of money from continuing to work on it. Josh Sawyer made his own hardcore mod that nerfed some stuff and rebalanced the game with changes that might've been planned but didn't have enough time to work with in the timeframe of the game's development, like lowering the level cap to 35 (from 50) and reducing the base carry weight to 50 (from 150), or making the Courier Stash weapons scattered across the game rather than given at the start, or fixing In Shining Armor so that it works and so on.
It's kind of a cross between "here are some changes that we didn't think most players would enjoy that much, especially Fallout 3 fans" and "here's a lot of fixes and oversights that weren't shipped to the base game, for some reason".
Merging parts of the Jsawyer mod (mostly the oversight and bug fixes) would probably be easy but by now they'd probably need to go through a lengthy process to get permission from the higher-ups to update the game since they're owned by Microsoft.

Just do everything in the order the guide does, and don't install other bug-fixing mods unless you know what you are doing.

The guide is well structured into what is completely necessary for bug fixes/utilities so you don't have to install the gameplay changes. I recommend you don't for your first run, at least until you get some hours in and get a feel of the game.

Cursory googling suggests it could be a full screen issue. Try playing windowed mode and see if it works. If it does, you can use this for borderless windowed

For some reason (and I have tried to research why) I always get a bug where the launcher loops if I try to start the game from steam.
It doesn't really matter since I got the gog version and that works like a charm, but I am curious as to why the launcher loop is a thing.

I used Project Nevada and Stutter Remover back in the early 2010s. Reading that Viva New Vegas guide, it turns out both of those mods made the game even more unstable. I'm generally against remakes but New Vegas needs it just so it won't crash after 1 hour of playtime.

The primary crash in the game is caused by having RAM over 8gb. That's the one where the crash happens when loading cells (zoning).
I have 32gb of ram, it doesn’t crash.

The permanent stuttering and constant crashes in New Vegas were present since the game was released. Most games from that time are still fully playable. This only goes to show that NV trannies only bring shame and dishonor to PC gaming.

I have YUP, Unofficial Patch, Zan Autopurge, NVAC, and the 4GB patch and that seems to be enough to limit it to only hard crashing every few hours even with 100+ mods installed

Depending on the timing of when and how you killed caesar, it may be being held in the chest at the foot of the camp (with the guy that takes your weapons) or in the weather station bunker itself

Nobody took my weapons since I killed the boat guy and traveled to the camp myself and killed everyone on sight.
