Fool. I have binged almost every castlevania and metroid game and even I can appreciate that Hollow Knight does it extremely well. It may not be the pinnacle but it certainly rises above the filth of the pretenders like Ori.

Hollow Knight isn't the best metroidvania ever but it is good.
The exploration in Hollow Knight sucks
the game lets you wander for 40 minutes in the wrong direction just to realize you cant do anything in the area you're in which you only realized after fighting an optional boss for half an hour and getting fricking geo as your only reward
on that note, half the rewards in this game suck ass, its almost always either geo or some badge that costs 4 points to equip
and on THAT note, the badge system sucks
in castlevania/metroid you're at least always finding fricking upgrades for your character
you're hardly ever finding those mask shards or anything that actually improves your character
but i still like hollow knight

the only thing i agree with is that some of the charms are useless
i'd also note that you do find both new powers and character upgrades throughout the world, but the world is quite large so you might not find them all the time. *my* biggest complain about the game is that its too big and open for its own good, that is the say most of the content is designed around having to take into account the player may not have many upgrades yet so it becomes too easy
