They aren't supposed to look attractive you fricking morons. If you played Metal Slug for more than 2 minutes you'd know that the characters don't actually look like that, but the character select screen is a wanted drawing version of the main cast by the antagonists, which is why they look so off in the original.
Taking those designs and making them "attractive" both completely misses the original intention of Metal Slug and immediately exposes how shallow this particular gachashit is.

Not really, the bottom is obviously aping the top while totally missing the point. It seeks to generically beautify the Falcons but leave it as a recognizable reference, which makes it so it fails in both objectives. The point of the original was to be a goofy select screen with the meta reason being that it was the antagonists seeking to denigrate their enemy. In the beautifying category however they're stuck trying to keep close to certain proportions leaving them far more uncanny than attractive. They would've been far better off just making them generically attractive, while more generic it'd be less insulting.
