Why does no one play wargames outside in nature or the yard? It has the potential for massive play area and the terrain is realistic and cool.
Imagine home brewing some rules so shooting range is quadrupled, movement doubled, with vehicle movement is quadrupled, and then playing a big game using half the hard?
I manage to lose shit on lacquered wood floors you expect me not to lose entire platoons in grass?
Play some chess or sudoku to work on your memory my friend .
It's not memory it's greasy hands and problems identifying objects.
So I guess gloves and I-spy? but frick that noise those books are too hard.
Models dont stand on grass and most games are designed with the limitations of table size as intended features. You could play battletech like this i suppose, but i wouldnt reccomend it
>play for hours
>sun goes down
>rain starts
>it's too cold
>it's too hot
>my feet hurt
>literal animal shit is now stuck to your miniature
>you swear your sergeant was right here a moment ago
>you snap that small and dark piece that always breaks off
>you have to bend over or sit on wet grass or animal shit to measure out distances
This reads like you're a flaming pussy who doesn't spend any time outdoors except the short walk to and from your car
No, he just uses flimsy GWshit
I would even paint outside with the right cover
How much shit is in your area? Are from India or California?
>too cold
>literal animal shit
>rain starts
lmoa are you playing in a Russian barnyard? wtf
I feel the same way, but about ttrpgs.
This I understand, since you can use a dice tray or digital roller and enjoy the weather. The problem with doing wargames outside is that you're down in the mud getting your nice models all dirty. But on like a picnic table or a gazeebo or something roleplaying games are sweet.
Weather exists + people are probably very precious about their $100+ models
Who spends 100 bucks on a model? I feel bad for that person
Wow you are so impressive anon.
No really, it's time to stop
Idk what the prices are man I'd rather have a crack addiction than play 40k since it's cheaper.
>people are probably very precious about their $100+ models
>precious
outside is risky but im a huge proponent for floorhammer.
We did an apoc game in my mates garden, it was epic. Looked like a jungle had ferns and all sorts of other plants. Nids vs imperials.
We lost the planet (garden) and fell back to the moon bastion (table top inside). Eventually we lost the bastion as well but evacuated a large percentage of civilians offworld and had an epic last stand where the cadian 18th were obliterated.
Good times
Played in an abandoned farm once, it was nice
>buy miniatures with money.
>take the time to clean, assemble, paint miniatures.
>only to roll them around in dirt
No. Kys for suggesting this. I don't even play with the overpriced shit GW spurts out but I'd never wallow my victrix Saxons in dirt. Plus anything below 28mm would be easily lost in the grass.
I did this with my toys.
It's viable for bulky big toys if you're just flailing them around, for any ""adult"" boardgame/ttrpg it just looks silly instead.
>no one
It's called garden wargaming
Why did you feel the need to make a whole thread about this instead of staying in /40kg/? It's it because everyone called you a moron?
>go out in autumn or winter
>blood freezes over, nose runs a marathon
>go out in summer
>swarmed by nameless flying things and bloodsucking ticks
Nah m8
Makes sense, no one in the 40k general has ever been outside
we literally had this argument in /40kg/ earlier this week kek
I grew up doing exactly this. It was great fun.
Beachscapes were the most fun.
Who says I don’t?
Sun damages Lego minifigs.
>dae play in the dirt?
you want to get anthrax? this is how you get anthrax
>anthrax
homie WHERE THE FRICK DO YOU LIVE!?!
That's where Anthrax exists in nature. It's not a man-made bioweapon, it's a natural bacteria that does unpleasant things, and it exists in a spore form in soils. When it gets into cuts/wounds/lungs/etc, it wakes up and does it's bacteria thing. You can find anthrax spores in Antarctica.
Bro I work in construction and my uncle is a cattle rancher, anthrax in nature only occurs where previous outbreaks have occurred (mostly Europe) and in places where biological warfare testing occurred. Combined with rampant antibiotics use anthrax is virtually unheard of.
>Weather
It's often windy and rainy outside and in the winter it's also cold and dark.
>Bad gameboard
Most models are hard to place properly on grass or other shit outside plus they would probably get dirty or scratch the paint easier.
You are also more likely to lose stuff because it can be harder to spot.
And maybe worst of all playing on the ground means you have to squat or bend over every time you move something. It's much more comfortable to play on a table where you can stand up normally and play.
I see no upsides to playing outside other than enjoying the nice weather in summer. I would rather spend some time outside doing other things and then go inside and play wargames in the evening.
>minis get lost easily, moreso if they are camo
>prone to being stepped on
>7 months of the year its below freezing and snow or mud everywhere
>sun goes down
>starts raining
>bugs
>birds fricking with your minis
>animal shit
>you are rolling around in the dirt with expensive models you spend weeks working on
>minis dont stand up for shit on grass
>I dont want to read rules while on my knees in the dirt sweating my ass off on a 100 degree day
>weapon ranges designed around typically a 6x4 foot table, would take 6 turns just to get into range in most rulesets. Would make transports pretty useful though.
This is all just the shit that comes to mind off the top of my head, I love hiking and mountain biking but there is no fricking way im playing wargames in the yard, maybe on a table on the porch or something is nice though I havnt tried it.
>weapon ranges designed around typically a 6x4 foot table, would take 6 turns just to get into range in most rulesets. Would make transports pretty useful though
you know you could just make a 6x4 area on the ground to play on. You don't have to use the whole backyard brother
If you never did this with green and tan army men and like digging ww1 trenches and using water and firecrackers and shit, then I feel bad for you.
homie, I live in a goddamned swamp in Florida.
Cause it rains 24/7 in Bongland
No wonder jeets thrive there, like the invasive species slugs they are.
My friend used to have a huge sandbox for his kids out behind his house and we played a few 40k games in it before.
A++ tbh. Easy to make hills and valleys, figures and terrain pieces don't slip, totally fitting for a desert battle. Plus, the sun and clouds overhead made for really cool looking scenes with the figures. Only annoyance is some of the vehicles got sand in it, so a bit of a pain there.
Pic kind of related. Sad my old phone died and I lost the pics.
> Only annoyance is some of the vehicles got sand in it
Nothing a little aerosol couldn't fix I'm sure
>so many replies about rain
Hello, sars? Do not redeem!
>Why does no one play wargames outside in nature or the yard?
The frick are you talking about, doesn’t everyone do that?
im a moron and fricked up the link cuz im a newbie
okay im just gonna kill myself i posted the same link twice
