There is no gameplay or skill involved. You have to be a drooling moron to let the ball fall through. You are literally just watching a ball roll around a board with flashy lights. Who enjoys this crap?
why do so many pinball games have so many features locked behind paywalls? I hate downloading a pinball game just to find out that all the cool stuff in the trailer are only available through buying DLC.
I downloaded Pinball Deluxe Reloaded on Android just for the hell of it and was really surprised to see how generous they were with the tables. You still have to pay for half the tables but that's more generous than every other one I've played.
Wish they gave you a way to earn them in-game though. At least a few of them you can unlock through gameplay.
Pinout's also pretty good, no ads as far as I know and the only payment is to enable checkpoints which aren't even that important when you git gud.
>one table is like 10k
I get that they can pay for themselves in a high traffic area or whatever. But a business owner would peobably rather invest some 500 bucks on a regular arcade machine instead and get the same amount of money per play.
>is there any curated list for the best tables?
You mean like a list of good tables in general, or for vpx? I'm pretty sure all of the vpx tables are made by people that own the actual machines so they should play nearly the same. I kept getting balls stuck on one and people on the forums confirmed it got stuck all the time there on the real machines too. They are very meticulous in their recreations.
well if you want to play real pinball then just go to pinballmap.com and look.
for virtual, VPX is the best but it's a hassle for beginners to set up and possibly configure. Your best bet is to go with Pinball FX3 or FX. FX is the new version with better graphics but much buggier, questionable accuracy, and overall not really worth it compared to FX3. For scratching the itch, just get FX3, any Williams table package. Medieval Madness and Attack from Mars are probably the easiest places to start.
Anything Bally/Williams is great on FX3.
Not him but I've heard that FX is not very good. And my FX3 collection is scattered across 3 different platforms due to various circumstances (tables being given for free, being given a gift card and not knowing what to do with it, etc.), so it's probably more worth sticking to FX3 in that case then? That would be a definite yes if there was a way for me to merge all my table purchases (which playstation and I think steam allows at least for.some FX2 tables)
so for fx3 you can't merge or anything like that. when fx came out, i believe zen gave some kind of discount if you already owned the tables in fx3, but that may have been steam only and i think it has come and gone.
fx3 plays great on every platform, even switch, but they are done supporting it and there are no new tables coming. fx clearly has issues, you can see a lot of people complaining on the zen forums, but that's really the only option for the "new" williams tables since fx3 is no longer supported. i remember seeing some top players who were showing all sorts of bugs and exploits you could do in MM. but if you want to play addams or tz or something, that's your commercial option.
of course you can just go vpx, which requires a bit more legwork
A shame that you can't merge them as it'd be nice to bring them to my Xbox.
I'll probably just continue to use PS4 for my tables and maybe Steam once in a while for those Marvel tables they gave for free during 2020's lockdown.
and yeah Switch is good I grabbed those two free tables when it launched on there and it looks and performs just about the same as PS4. Just PS4 has more of my purchases and the Star Wars tables because of a PS+ goof where they gave the tables for FX2 at one point but let me import them to FX3 even well after my PS+ expired
Pinball is more fun than vidya. I have a pinball machine from the 70s and ive played it more over the last decade than video games. Just fun and soulful
I recently bought a virtual pinball table. I've been playing Medieval Madness for hours, shit's fricking rad.
It did make me realize how much easier the Zen version of the table is, I can clear like 80% of the castles with a single ball while I have to struggle to do so with 3 on the realistic version.
I got into pinball 10 years ago and it was fun at first, but then i became a scoregay. If i didnt score a certain amount on ball 1 id restart and this led to it becoming a chore for me
Xenotilt is on sale on steam right now. I've really been enjoying it it's got a lot of depth and they just released an update with EX-MODE that adds a whole bunch of new mechanics and 3 different sub boards for each tier with new bosses. Its absurdly fun I've currently got a high score of 32.7 billion which is like 40th ish on the billionaires board. Trying to shoot for top 25 in EX right now I think it's doable.
There's this brewery near me that has a bunch of machines and hosts tournaments every Sunday. They have this one cool Deadpool machine where you build up locks on his katana to release a massive multiball. Pinballs frickin awesome

(you)
you sound like a moronic zoomer
Sounds like you just never got good scrub.
Once you learn how a machiene feels you can land shots super consistently.
>complain it is too easy
>GIT GUD GIT GUD GIT GUD
Is everyone on this site illiterate?
Sometimes I want to believe that is just shitposting but then I realize, morons like those unironically exist.

THE GREAT DEBATE:
Addams or TNG?
Lawlor over Steve Ritchie any day of the week, even if Addams is slightly overrated.
I wish you didn't have to be a multimillionaire to afford the real thing, all I have is vpx and vp9 but there is still some sovl there

will ai make a bunch of different pinball machines in the future? there never seems like enough levels in any game...
What's the best way to play pinball nowadays? just VPX? is there any curated list for the best tables?

Why hasn't anyone used this technology to make a virtual pinball arcade?
It seems like it would be perfect, kinda fricking baffling they're just using it for shovel ware garbage.
There were people setting up VPX tables with eye tracking and 3d screens but I never looked into it much as I have no money.
THAT DEAF DUMB AND BLIND KID
SURE PLAYS A MEAN PINBALL
Pinball is more fun than vidya. I have a pinball machine from the 70s and ive played it more over the last decade than video games. Just fun and soulful
Mechanical stuff > Digital stuff
This is always true.

I've been playing a shitload of Sorcerer's Lair on my tablet, pinball works really well on it.
For me, it's Son of Zeus
WHERE MY ROCK FANTASY CHADS AT?!
I always sucked Black Knight as a kid, but the theme was fricking amazing.
