Why does there seem to be more nostalgia for the Gamecube and N64 than for the PS1 and PS2, despite the fact that, combined, Sony sold nearly 5x as many units?

Must be the places you frequent because I don't see that at all.
The underdog bias, people end up rooting for it more especially if they think doing so gets them in their own special club. But really in this case there aren't more people fawning over the gamecube, they're just especially loud. The PS2 sold far too many units for it's fans not to outnumber them.
What about the SEGA Saturn then, or the TG16? It isn't because they are underdog consoles, it's because they're Nintendo consoles.
>horde of online saturn and Dreamcast hipsters waiting on translation patches to play their favorite games (first time) not pictured
And it gets nowhere of the discussion of Nintendo consoles.
>I-its good because it sold more!!!!!
Who the frick cares about sales?
Nintendo fans are more vocal about the past because they have nothing to look forward to
Nor do playstation fans, in fact, even less so
>no u
>t. tendie
Wow really unexpected response from the fisher price brigade.
While I agree with you I find that Sony has became this now too with the PS5 no games machine.
PS5 has girls. I meet two cute young women who wanted to be Close Friends (its a ps thing) just yesterday.
Nintendogays are eating like kings right now compared to ps1/2 fans.
>nothing to look forward to
>the death of snoy within 10 years
future lookin bright
>he says while the PS5 still has no games
you know this struck a nerve from how many quick replies it got
>You replied to my baseless comment..... therefore I am LE RIGHT
A lot of gamecube games are still stuck on the gamecube. The majority of the best PS2 titles have gotten a port or a remaster at some point
Nintendo has more exclusivity and a stronger brand identity, ppl remember 'the consile.' But ppl remember san andreas and ffx and sotc and dmc and dq8 and smt and all sorts of other shit that they played on PS2 the first time.
Remember when super mario goes *YA YA HOOOO!*
The people who bought all those playstations grew up and moved on, something Nintendo fans don't really understand.
average gamecube < average ps2
gamecube highs > ps2 highs
>Gamecube
>Highs
kek, nice joke. half you homies aint even played gx and think sunshine was good
what are 3 games that didn't age like milk on PS1?
RE2, RE3, Abes oddesey, abes exodus
bonus answer heart of darkness but most will never have played it.
There is also command and conquer and theme hospital that is perfectly fine to play right now but they are PC games
SaGa Frontier
SaGa Frontier II
Final Fantasy Tactics
all the people I know who married and have kids, (even as babies) all own a Switch. PS5 is the singles console.
That is the point though anon, nintendo is a niche family console, in general it is meant to be played with others and everything is family (child) friendly. That is why they own a niche corner in the industry.
If I had children the first console I would but them would be a nintendo.
it's because the nintendies like scottthewoz becoming mainstream
low T
cultural degeneracy
etc.
>nobody challenging the premise
are you guys moronic? The highest selling PS2 game was nearly 20 million sales.
The highest selling GameCube game was almost 7.5 million
The GameCube doesn't have more nostalgia, it's just that the PS2 was SO popular, and SO MUCHZ THE DEFAULT console, that you morons forget how many things from those games is just "normal" or seamlessly integrated into culture now. Nintendo just has louder fans because they NEED to be lowed. It doesn't need to be stated the relevance and nostalgia for PS2 games. Also doesn't help that the PS2 had like 10x the games.
And on the topic of the PS1, while the N64 was just barely closer on that front. There's just as much nostalgia for that console if not more. Didn't FF7 remake win most anticipated game or some shit? The continued relevance of that game is unbelievable. And it's a shit game.
>sales are the same as nostalgia
It was just comfy little cube with fun co-op games, all my friends always say gamecube was their favorite, it didn't have as many games but on the other hand it had imo, more memorable games. PS2 had great games of course and I remember wanting to change my cube because there were so many games on playstation but this is about nostalgia rather than being smart.
I also loved the changeable cover plate lol.
It's more of a demographic reason.
Most online creators are white, and white people tend to favor Nintendo a lot more. So this perpetuates this image of general nostalgia for Nintendo by a large majority, even though many haven't interacted with a Nintendo console.
I hardly see any online creators of color talk about Nintendo as much as whites. They tend to talk about whatever genre of video games they like rather than being Nintendo-centric or heavily biased towards Nintendo. For example, I see a lot more black creators who center around fighting games than whites.
zoomers pretending they owned a doa console to appear cool and unique to other zoomers lying on the internet, they live for validation from strangers on their various social media applications
The average Sony player was playing nothing but GTA and sports games. There's a good chance that they left gaming once they were older.
Shit I wish I had a PS1 growing up. Back then my sister and I were lucky to even get an N64 almost near the end of its life cycle, THEN turning around and asking for a GameCube like a year or so later (which we somehow managed to get that Christmas of 2001). PS2 has a great library, I know because we bought one ourselves, but their shelf at stores like GameStop in like 2003 was massive. Shit was daunting. GameCube didn't have as many games, but as a general rule of thumb you normally stuck to the 1st parties. PS2 had Rachet and Clank, Sly Cooper, GTA, Final Fantasy, and that's just some of the popular ones. There was a whole bevy on games you'd never hear about or get discussed unless you got curious enough to do research or it happened to come up in conversation.
I have more nostalgia for the N64 games than I do for the PS1 games, despite the PS1 having a massive library, what good N64 games there were, was so top quality that my playtime was so good.
I expect it was the same for some with the gamecube but I personally cannot remember the gamecube having a single good game.
>inb4 RE4
Game is fricking shit and while REmake 1 was good, I played OG RE1 on PS1 so it wasnt that amazing.
Plus as an MGS fan twin snakes sucked balls and the MGS2 mechanics just server to trivialize the game
>whose foootprints are these
>ackkkk
>zzzzzzzzzz
EZPZ
GameCube was the best of its gen
best door stopper
Because Sony is for casuals and normal gays who grew out of games or only ever played sports games or a AAA game here and there.
Nintendo fans never grew up.
General game quality was higher on the cube not to mention it was a very multiplayer focused machine so people generally have good memories playing games with friends.
While the ps2 sold a lot a lot of the games people bought for it were also multiplats that are no longer associated with the ps2 like San Andreas. People don't think of their time with the system they think of the game.
there's heaps of nostalgia for mgs, ff7, spyro, crash idk what you're talking about
There's like, dunno, 10 good GC games in total whereas PS2 has at least a good hundred or more
Those 10 games are among the best video games to have ever existed. Sony wishes they could say the same about the PS2.
This is why no one takes tendies seriously
If you don't agree, you simply don't like video games very much.
Let's be honest anon, more people take tendie seriously than staunch anti-tendies simply because the former can actually explain what makes a game good while your lot just kind of whine about Nintendo for no reason.
>the former can actually explain what makes a game good
No you can't.
Case in point.
You're not putting anything forward, you're just butthurt about Nintendo.
But the PS2 had the 3 GTA games and MGS2 and 3 and Silent Hill 2 and 3 and the Tekken games of course. Those are all games that are looked upon well.
To a lot of people, PS2 was seen as a DVD player that happens to play games.
cope however you want, anon. i've never seen a gamecube exclusive game that looked like it was worth playing
The Gamecube and its software was designed to be more toy-like and kid friendly and so people would associate it directly with childhood. The PS1 and PS2 have massive nostalgia so I don't know what you're talking about there, I guess they were DVD players and had more mature content so it has less of a direct association.
>The Gamecube and its software was designed to be more toy-like and kid friendly and so people would associate it directly with childhood
The problem logic is that Nintendo started to branch out with more "mature" games at the time like Geist and even Metroid Prime to name a few.
They were outliers and even by the standards of the time they weren't exactly pushing the boundaries of mature content. This is the same period as Manhunt, Hot Coffee GTA, and WWII shooters. Metroid Prime was cool but it's a first person adventure platformer more than a Halo clone.
>Metroid Prime was cool but it's a first person adventure platformer more than a Halo clone
Are you really defining maturity by genre rather than content? Also being able to have sex doesn't make GTA a mature game.
Everyone on N64 and Gamecube played the same 5 games. If you owned a Playstation you didn't have nostalgia for the console itself, but whatever random bargain bin title you happened to own.
>random bargain bin title you happened to own.
But everyone had stuff like metal gear solid and resident evil and tomb raider and tekken and crash
Most of the people buying Playstations were buying them to play like one sports game, and GTA
I recently got a PS2 with Freebot; I forgot who fricking uncomfortable was the Dualshock 2 especially in games that need a precise camera control.
Literally not a single person outside of tendies has more nostalgia for GC than ps2
I had both and would say I have about the same level of nostalgia for each machine
That doesn't not make you a tendie now. No shit you had both. Are you moronic? I don't even want to explain context. No shit you had both, moron. Otherwise this thread, my post, your post make no sense.
Why are you seething? I just said I had the PS2 and the Gamecube and liked them both equally. Your behaviour is socially unacceptable.
Because if you only had one, contextually, over course you were / are a tendie. Logically, if your iq wasn't single digits, you would understand that it's assumed if you only own Nintendo console, you're a tendie. Most people owned 2-3 of Xbox ps2 GC and aren't rolling moronic fan boys. The fact you clarified that you owned both, showing you lack basic comprehension skills, means you're most likely a tendie now, so your liking the GC more is assumed even if you have both
I work in HR and like to get people like you fired for being rude autists.
>tendie
>works in hr
>has to get people fired to feel in control of his sad existence
L m a o
The last hurrah that the gamecube had was Twilight Princess and I recall beating that 17 years ago. It's sad how fast time flies and it's not funny at all.
Worst part is that there hasn't been a good Zelda since and we get to now wait another 6 before MAYBE we get one.
23 years.
Ain't no one gonna be nostalgic for what were essentially baby's first media players.
Dunno about elsewhere, but in france the only gamecube games you can find in retail are the shit ones no one want like football games, good games like windwaker or mario sunshine are around 70/80 euro, up to 350 for a good condition limited edition of OOC and MM
manchidren are a very annoying vocal minority
that's why you see everyone in Ganker shitting on the Playstation and Pokemon yet both are more popular than ever before
I dont think this is true. I had all 4 of those machines and they all seem to have roughly the same amount of nostalgia.
The N64 and gamecube had small libraries and so everyone that had one had mostly the same games
With the PS1 or 2, the libraries were fricking huge and mostly shit (even if counts of good exclusives were similar), so any two players are less likely to have a similar and positive experience to talk about and thus create cultural memory
Oh, also, the N64 has had servicable emulation since the mid 2000s.
Because most Playstation households were made of normies while Gamecube owners grew up to be autistic youtubers, so they're the ones who weave the narratives of the internet.
Though I'd be lying if there wasn't something kind of alluring mystique behind the gamecube back when I was a PS2 kid. I'm sure many people like myself were very curious about that strange box shaped thing and the weird ass games they had displayed at BlockBuster.
Honestly for me, it was the reverse. Grew up with a Gamecube, then a year ago, I wondered how different my life would be with a PS2. Found one at a yard sale and knew I had to act.
I think people are more nostalgic of the PS1 than they are of the PS2.
Most PS1 and PS2 owners ended up as turbonormalgays that don’t post about video games on Ganker (Reddit) or Reddit Reddit. Besides, if you’ve ever gone through flea markets, you’d know the average PS1/PS2 collection of games is dogshit multiplats and sports games.
Confirmation bias
Also the most popular games on the Sony consoles were sports related
What a Black person statement
Out of the 10 best selling ps2 games, two are gran turismo games, the rest are a split between gta, jrpgs, arpgs, tekken 5 and mgs2.
You're a moron.
>getting mad at a truthful statement
There are thousands of PS2 games anon, the top 50 are filled with mostly sports games
Top 50 includes
>5 madden games
>3 pro evolution soccer games
>1 wwe game
>2 tony hawk games if you include skateboarding as a sport
>mostly sport games
you're a Black person, everything else ranges from platformers to fighting games to action games to rpgs to sandbox to fps to flight simulators to music games to adventure games to jrpgs to arpgs
>being this angry that the console did well with sports games
What kind of fricking moron are you?
>lie
>get caught
>WHY U MAD
Black person
Jesus, you must really hate sport
I don't give a shit about sport games, they're not for me, but every system has sport games
but the ps2 didn't have "mostly" sport games, and "most of the ps2 successful games" weren't sport titles
fricking Black person
How the frick do you quantify something like "the amount of nostalgia for something"
what a bunch of nonsense
Because GC was extremely niche most places, PS1/2 was fricking everywhere.
The GameCube was trash. I have zero nostalgia for it, PSO aside (and even then I played way more of that on the Dreamcast). All I remember is crushing disappointment from a string of its exclusives, including the worst mainline Mario game by a distance. I barely touched it after I got a PS2, because why would I be playing Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg when I could be playing Final Fantasy X?
>worst mainline Mario game by a distance
Oh no, it’s moronic!
Yep, it sure is a moronic game.
Because these zoomers were still shitting their diapers or still in daddy's ballsack when those consoles were commercially relevant. N64 and Gamecube were such colossal back to back failures that it was looking pretty grim for nintendo. They only survived because they appealed to the lowest common denominator with the Wii.
>They only survived because they appealed to the lowest common denominator with the Wii.
Nintendo has always made the most bank off it's handhelds. No one who cares about games want knock off PCs.
Because all the casuals who just want to kill some time bought a PS1 or 2 and all the true gamers who appreciate gaming as a form of art and like to spend hours getting immersed into their games bought an N64 or Gamecube.
Nintendo doesn't make movies for eternal teenagers, they make games for everyone.
Because Nintendogays are actual gamers, for better or worse. Playstationgays are normalgays having a phase playing games like Fifa and GTA when they're teens, before moving on to normalgay life like parties and shit.
Sony consoles were targeted to adults of the time and these moved on. Nintendo consoles were targeted to kids who then became trapped in a process of arrested development and can't let go of the past.
tl;dr: you're mentally ill.
The most successful PS2 games outsold the Gamecube as a whole.
>Sony uses discs during the previous generation instead of cartridges
>Sony opts for DVDs for the PS2, which has the added benefit of making the PS2 one of the cheapest DVD players on the market
>Nintendo sees this and instead manufactures their own DVDs, except they are reduced in size and charges a ridiculous royalty to third party developers to release
>since they are smaller they can only fit about 60% of what could be burned to a regular DVD
>the Gamecube, like the N64, has virtually zero third party support
>the PS2 crushes it in sales
Is Nintendo run by literal morons?
Is this the daily thread whining that Croc isn't as fondly remembered as Banjo-Kazooie, or something like that?
Most westoids are tendies and people that grew up with the PS1/2 had their nostalgia soured with sony becoming snoy and betraying japan to chase goyslop money.
Hidden GameCube gems?
Been playing chibi robo for the first time atm, it's pretty fun
People who like the PS1 and PS2 libraries actually play games instead of settling for reminiscing like little b***hes about old games they played because "I don't want to make company mad"
>why does there seem
seem =/= reality
