Why is Poison and Ghost not Special.
It's a completely nonsensical and unintuitive system

It's not the element that's doing the damage, that's just a supplement. When a Pokemon uses a Fire Punch, it's not the fire that's doing the damage, it's the punch. The fire is just a side effect.

Yes it is. Otherwise grass Pokemon wouldn't be weak to it.
If the fire was the source of damage, then there's no reason to ever use Fire Punch instead of something like Flamethrower

If we're doing that, then Gust (literally かぜおこし) should be special because it's wind, not physical because it's Flying type, or even worse Normal in Gen 1.
Similarly, Twister, another move that is wind based in naming, is also physical because it's the only Dragon type move.
Wind is a physical force. Dragon is a mythical special energy. It's not that hard to understand.

Shadow energy is not a material property
Both systems make sense and are intuitive once you learn how they work, which takes like 10 minutes of research when you first start playing the game. Learning type matchups takes longer and is more complicated than this.
If you have trouble with physical/special moves in either pre or post split, consider seeing a doctor, you might even be able to get welfare checks for your condition.
