I replayed the first four Mana games in preparation for the Trials remake a few years back. All them were clunkfests in some form or fashion. I don't know if "unfinished" is the right word for them, but "unpolished" definitely is.
The frick are you talking about? I like the game but it is unquestionably unfinished. The music glitches out. The latter half of the game goes too fast and is obviously rushed. Did you seriously never notice this?
Visually, mechanically and musically polished. But ive played this 6 times and i still dont get the story other than big fluffy dragon is bad. Japs suck at storytelling, anime is proof
it literally isn't, some elements glitch the frick out, including the text or the character HUD becoming blue or or putting random colors when you spam the menu button
they really screwed the pooch with the pointless charged melee attacks. its boring as hell to sit there and wait and magic is a better option anyway. but then with magic you have to constantly reopen that menu. there really should've been spell shortcuts and a different type of melee system.
Ditto. I never had a problem with the mechanics of the game nor did it ever feel unfinished to me. Once you get used to the cooldown system, the combat actually develops a nice rhythm and flow to it. I far prefer it to a lot of modern action RPGs which are just "Mash X then press O to dodge occasionally."

im sure most people liked it as a kid (myself included) but i hardly ever replay it anymore and wouldnt recommend it to new players
The point OP is making is it's some unfinished game, but if you've ever played this back then there is absolutely nothing to hint that the game was some sort of unfinished product.
It's a bit clunky but that was the standard for a lot of games back then and anyone pointing this out is just outting themselves as a late comer.
>there is absolutely nothing to hint that the game was some sort of unfinished product.
The clues people cite are in the game: weird fragmented story, some simple late-game dungeons, a loss of complexity in the overworld toward the end. A kid in 199X could have noticed them, but probably wouldn't have because kids are too busy playing the fun game to notice its adult-level problems.
It's not because of evil young modern people or whatever and it's not because of Internet nitpicking or circlejerking. People trash Secret of Mana because it's a good game for kids and a very rough game (albeit POSSIBLY still an enjoyable one) for adults. I loved it as a kid too. It's a janky mess in ways that don't bother kids very much, and it's beautiful in ways that appeal to all ages.
Again moron, you are just saying the game is clunky which is what I already said. There's nothing that would make someone who bought the game and completed it think, "WOW THIS TOTALLY SEEMS RUSHED AND UNFINISHED FOR SOME WEIRD REASON"

is some of the worst revisionist take I've seen on this site alongside >Zelda 2 was always hated
and >all challenge was because of rentals. Yes, even if the game was only made and released in a country which didn't have rentals, it's still because of rentals.
because it was unfinished it was supposed to be on snes cd
morons replying in agreement to affirm op’s FEELING. weak-minded children
What the shit? The whole fandom attached to this game is jerking off over the characters.

Squaresoft weren't good at making action games. Period.
>action games
That would be like calling FF12 an action game
FF12 is not an ARPG, idiot, and I'm not gonna let you pretend that SoM plays like an ATB title.
All the rom space was spent on the title screen.
Because Nasir was a hack.

Is the soiwitch remake any better
Beat this several times as a kid. I never once thought this and neither did my best friend that also had it.
This is something that's from online discussion and/or zoomer shit.

Because it is. The game stinks and I don't like it.

>Why does this game feel so unpolished/unfinished?
All games on the Nintendo are polished and feel finished. It is the hand in them
This game looks and sounds good.
Plays like shit.
