/vp/ is not a fan of spin-offs, but discussion about the Orre games does happen sometimes. Gale of Darkness also easily gets derailed.
I have. I prefer Gale of Darkness for its wider selection, expansion on the Shadow Pokémon gimmick, and the battle mini-games.
Nobody hates these games more than Game Freak.
Ganker doesn't usually beat jokes until they're a dead horse like reddit, but for whatever reason they become Reddit Ultra when Pokemon XD gets mentioned
GoD is a massive improvement gamelplay wise, but shit like removing The Under and replacing Wes with Michael certainly cuts down on the gritty feeling of the first. Even though it can be darker in places because Greevil has no problems dropping a child
I recognize the mechanical superiority of Gales, but in terms of history and setting, I prefer the first, using a kid with his little sister on a scooter takes away the impact of a region founded by thieves, it no longer feels threatening.
It's not that the first one was a masterpiece either, it seemed like an FF written by a teenager, I honestly think I fell more in love with the western steampunk atmosphere that the region generates, if they could make a third part I would like a hybrid with the LOA formula and possibility of choose between different types of characters like in BR.
I played Colosseum but never to completion because i borrowed it from my cousin (and i only really wanted the Johto starters, it has a nice concept and i liked the double battles but it pretty quickly starts dragging honestly and it kinda made me paranoid about missing snags.
I honestly put in more hours on Channel which i did own and replayed several times for more Jirachis to trade during Gen4. AND THERE YA HAVE IT, DAT IS MY REPORT FROM DA SCENE!!
Thought they were the coolest games ever as a child but I replayed them recently and they're the most mind numbing, unpleasant games to play. Some of the battles are decently hard, but the games don't have much to offer.
34. I was pretty much the target audience of OG Pokémania I was Underaged B& when i started using Ganker, so im sure there are Anons even older then me here.
Love them, though Mt. Battle is a drag, especially when you're going for the Earth Ribbon. At least in Colosseum, you can use the Shadow Raikou and Suicune to cheese it.
5 when GoD first released, 23 now.
I played Colosseum but never to completion because i borrowed it from my cousin (and i only really wanted the Johto starters, it has a nice concept and i liked the double battles but it pretty quickly starts dragging honestly and it kinda made me paranoid about missing snags.

Based Channelchad. It's comfy as frick and I honestly want it just because of that. Unfortunately I'm American so I can't even get Jirachi without forking over more shekels for the Colosseum Bonus Disc, which is absolutely not worth the money these days.
>though Mt. Battle is a drag, especially when you're going for the Earth Ribbon.
I did Mt.Battle 15 times in a row to get every obtainable Poke in Gale of Darkness the Earth Ribbon.
Turning 30 this year, I remember playing Colosseum on the GC in my parents' basement like it was yesterday. I loved it, it felt so dark and edgy compared to other Pokemon games. In hindsight, parts of it were def pretty cringe, but I think it actually holds up pretty well, the world of Orre absolutely felt grittier and rougher than any other region I've played since
27, zoomer. I was 9 when Gale of Darkness came out and got it for Christmas 2005. I had previously gotten Colosseum (and LeafGreen) for my 8th birthday in 2004. Good times.
27 anon. i played with my older brother too and my god its one of the best and most cherished memories i have of my childhood with vidya, just the 2 of us basedpogging about how cool was to see our favourite gen 3 pokemon in 3d models.
I played them and discovered how important the double fight was,
The annoying thing was removing the darkness from the pokemon in colosseum in XD this problem is fixed
yes they are quite good and challenging games
Because for Pokemon game standards they're obscure, especially for the RPG games. The gamecube was one of Nintendo's worst selling consoles and neither game fared as well as most other games in the series. 2.41 and 1.42 mil for Colosseum and Gale of Darkness is respectable for the install base they worked with, but on a wider scale that's pretty unimpressive for a series that typically breaks 10+ mil.
It also doesn't help that Pokemon games thrive on recency to be relevant. You've got people unironically bashing HGSS and praising ORAS these days and people unironically praise SV just because they have an open world when Lord knows in 5 or 10 years they'll be able to acknowledge the games as the shitpiles they were.
These games have seen no rereleases or remasters and were only ever available on the gamecube, towards the latter half of its life cycle no less. The gamecube's relevancy was already pretty much gone by this point in time meanwhile Sony and Microsoft were pretty much just getting started, with the 360 on the horizon and Sony taking off their training weights to unleash the PS2's final form with some great games in the mid 2000s.
I love the Orre games and I hate that Genius Sonority were picked apart like carrion by the vultures, but they had steep competition and were fighting it from a terrible vantage point.
I just did a Water type mono run of Colosseum and it was fun as frick, thinking about using a sand team for Gale of Darkness when I play that one next.
I played Colosseum when I was younger.
It has a great atmosphere and double battles being the default makes for some interesting battles, but it has some "traditional RPG" syndrome in how you can only save at PCs and how its dungeons are laid out, especially the early part where you have to fight Mirror B. and his army of Rain Dance/Water Dish Ludicolos.
I stood awake to beat the story in gale. it was one of the last few games that got me pumped up. I didn't have the chance to play it when it was new.
Also Michael confirmed for strongest protag, doesn't need strength to move these huge rocks.
emerald, scarlet, um, crystal (tho there are plenty of issues imho and it's mostly nostalgia), Y
few weeks ago I'd have said platinum and the entirety of gen 4 are lowest on my list but tbqh they grew on me a lot since doing my professor oak challenge runs
yellow was the breasts it has a lot of weaknesses (hence why i consider it among the "worst") but damn I'd lie if I don't love firing it up occasionally on my n64
Collosseum was fricking boring but I played it as an adult. The battles took forever and none of them were particularly challenging (shills kept saying they were), but I dropped it so maybe it got more fun.
I played when i was like 7 and my moronic ass didn't know how to play the game so i only would just spam Return with the free Ursaring you get (XD btw) I still don't get why i still manage to beat the final boss though
Weirdly my first exposure to Pokémon games was Colosseum, replayed it so much that one time I got a shiny misdreavus long before I knew what a shiny Pokémon was. And seeing how cool Metagross was in that game has kept him cemented as my favorite after all these years
Colosseum is my top pokemon game right after Crystal, if I remember correctly it's the first video game I ever pre-ordered and still have the bonus Jirachi disc too. XD is an overall improvement but there's just something about colosseum that makes it stand out more, mainly the character designs, area design, and the dialogue is so un-pokemon like. The fact that the game itself just feels so disconnected from the pokemon standard as a whole is what I think makes it so great, especially compared to the current state pokemon is in now
I only played Gale of Darkness and I fricking LOVED it and wouldn't mind a remaster or another game in the serious, but I know it would never EVER happen, so I'll just settle for an upscaled emulation of it, instead.
They're alright for the most part, but holy shit the homosexual power rangers dropping on my head every 5 steps toward the late game genuinely pissed me off.
I've never gotten very far in Colosseum, but I have beaten >XD twice. Once as a kid, another time a few years ago. It's not the greatest game, but it is good and has lots of unique appeal with the double battles and the shadow pokemon, which also served as a nice argument in favor of using doubles as the standard ingame format. The music in these games is pretty good too, actually something I'll casually listen to sometimes.
They also have Miror B, a /vp/ staple.
Played em, and loved em. Now I love how they (including the Jirachi bonus disc) are now worth a combined 600 as collectibles. Nintendo will never, ever remake these, so they will be valuable forever
Played both as a kid and they’re a couple of my favorite games in the franchise. They’re far from perfect, but definitely better than a solid third of the main series at least. The stories are darker and slightly better written, the music and atmosphere are top notch, and they’re more difficult than the average Pokémon game. Double battles and a limited pool of catchable Pokémon lead to very different battle strategies and teams from the mainline games, which is always fun even when replaying. Sure, they’re slow as molasses, but at least you get more out of that slowness than DP (another famously slow Pkmn game)
Played and genuinely enjoyed them both.
Can be a bit of a slog sometimes because battles take a very long time due to the cutscenes playing every single turn.
Areas where its just battle after battle after battle suck.
Though some didn't like this aspect, I actually kinda liked the limited selection of Pokemon. Encourages you to use ones that you normally never would.
The actual challenge of the battles was really nice though. You don't see many trainers in modern games using advanced strategies. Like Slowbro Skill Swapping with Slaking.
Music across both was stellar, too.
Would be cool to see the main cast in something like Pokemon Masters. >CAPTCHA: D00GY
28 anon here, owned Colosseum as a kid, still have my copy, and got a physical copy of XD recently. Played Colosseum several times including starting a Ribbon Master. Played XD on emulation once but didn't finish, so I'm playing through that for reals now. >both have great presentation, music, and style >don't mind the (sometimes) long animations because they give Pokemon a lot of personality and give moves a meaty satisfying sfx. Also I don't have ADHD and am capable of patience. >Colosseum is actually pretty short, my natural playthroughs were only 19 hours or so >can be challenging >limited mons but they get uncommon movesets
They're a great litmus test, if someone says they are bad, I know they're either underage, mentally dominated by shit YouTuber opinions, or just have bad taste. Or all three.
/vp/ is not a fan of spin-offs, but discussion about the Orre games does happen sometimes. Gale of Darkness also easily gets derailed.

It was funny like 8 years ago
>XD
have a nice day.
The game just sucks and nobody wants to discuss it. Colloseum was the better of the two.
Colo absolutely was not better. It has a bunch of just obnoxious game design that XD fixed.
GoD is a massive improvement gamelplay wise, but shit like removing The Under and replacing Wes with Michael certainly cuts down on the gritty feeling of the first. Even though it can be darker in places because Greevil has no problems dropping a child

I remember saving up enough money to get gale of darkness. that game was awesome. never had a link cable to send jirachi and lugia over back then
I played Colosseum but never to completion because i borrowed it from my cousin (and i only really wanted the Johto starters, it has a nice concept and i liked the double battles but it pretty quickly starts dragging honestly and it kinda made me paranoid about missing snags.

Psy-ai, psy-ai-aye aye-ai-duck.
Psy-ai-ai duck-duck psyduck sai.
what are you talking about? /vp/ talks about these games all the time. these games are talked about all over on the internet fricking all the time.
i love these games but why do people act like these were hidden gems?
Thought they were the coolest games ever as a child but I replayed them recently and they're the most mind numbing, unpleasant games to play. Some of the battles are decently hard, but the games don't have much to offer.
I could say this about Gen 4 as a whole
rent free
How fricking old are you people that you played this as kids
twentee
impossible
Also played Stadium 2 a lot.
31, what're you gonna do about it zoomie?
N-nothing

Could always hack a Wii and use the iso if you still have one lying around.

yes they are quite good and challenging games
I wish there were more games that used doubles as the default, it's way more interesting to plan out strategies
I remember /vp/ liking XD a lot in the past I wonder what changed. Maybe I'm just misremembering.
le obligatory XD frick off may may, plus we're being raided by shartygays. Might be better to refer it as GoD right now.

I played both of these before and want to replay them for my YouTube channel.
Miror B is so funny.
stop posting and frick off out of here, shitter
played em, now they are where they should be
in the shelf gathering dust
genuinely didn't like em much
>collectorsperg
You don’t like Pokémon.
I love pokemon tho?
have pokemon themed stuff in p much all of my rooms and replay them religiously
You hate all the games. You've said this before.
nah I don't hate em you goober
I dislike some, mainly gen 4 and 5 and yet I still play em a bunch
dummy
where or how do you play them if you have them accumulating dust? do you emulate or you have extra copies?
the gamecube game I only replace once every blue moon for challenge runs on pic rel
the other games I simply take out and play on one of my handhelds
whats the 5 best pokemon games

what the worst games
colosseum, battlerev,gen 1, gen 5,hgss
if we don't count spin offs replace em with gen 4 or fr/lg
add yellow to that list and you've got great taste my friend
yellow was the breasts it has a lot of weaknesses (hence why i consider it among the "worst") but damn I'd lie if I don't love firing it up occasionally on my n64

No wonder those games aren't talked much when they have shit ideas like this
If you notice, Greevil uses Rhydon, Tauros and Exeggutor, which are all OU in Gen 1.

It should've had Tyranitar
